it wasn't the last 2 games. it was the last 4. he had a shot hit his glove and roll out and in against ylae. then passed the puck to a duluth dude who shot it in the open net the next night.

the sioux tap in was #3. i guess these things come in 4ers

i hope he signed a contract this morning, cause i can't see anyone throwing $$$$$$$ at the chuck knobloch of goalies (sorry to say).

also while we're at it.
our fourth line didn't play in the 3rd period. they have been the only real physical line all year. in hindsight i imagine that may have helped in the first 15min of the 3rd there to give pause to the pc push as the top 3 lines were lucky to dump and change when they could in fact get the puck over the red line.

macloud had a nice view of it all from the bench. too many penalties by him early found him the dog house, which hurts a lot as he is the only right hand shot at the point and bu then has struggles at times keeping pucks in up that right wall.

Wow Mookie. My brother and I have been going to BU games since mid-60's and I have to say you nailed it. I have a hard time being hard on any one player too, but OC's performance the past 4 games was unmatched in BU goalie history. And we saw a LOTTA goalies since Jack Ferreria in '66. We';re both drinking Grand Marnier still stunned at what happened. I sorta felt this way in 1994 after getting destroyed by LSSU 9-1, but somehow this is far far worse.

DQ said it best..."We have won as a team all year and we lose as a team." The reality is, you could almost see it coming. PC completely dominated us in the 3rd and it was only a matter of time before they were going to tie the game, fluke goal or no fluke goal. It's just unfortunate that after 40 games it finally happened...I said in November that the only question mark on this team was their inexperience. I've remarked several times about the 3rd period "dominance" thing and that it would eventually come back to bite them. It's just too bad it happened in the biggest game of the year. I'm not going to pile on the kid...he got us here. Period. The guy next to me had an interesting comment: "You know, 20 years ago there would be an article in the Globe the next day and then it would go away. Now, with social media, he is never going to be able to forget this." And, sure enough, just about everyone's phone in our section lit up seconds afterwards. Anyone who has ever played sports knows how this feels...it happened to me once when I was 15 and I got a tooth knocked out by a guy who was taunting me after I lost my cool. If you're honest, you will admit that you NEVER expected us to get this far. You can either quit or bounce back from adversity. I hope, for Matt's sake, that he doesn't allow this to define him. The silver lining in all this is that the BU program is back with a vengeance, and I think we'll be a force to be reckoned with for a long time to come. But tonight, congratulations to the Friars.

And that's what makes this hard to take. He IS such a great kid. They all are. The one thing my brother and I said on the long drive home was how this was a good thing for Providence and Hockey East. You go back to 1978 when they beat us in the ECAC semis 5-1 and we had to do the play-in game to make the FF when we won. Providence has always been a gutsy program where recruiting vs the Boston teams in the 70's and 80's with always hard. So many great games with them over the years. I always hate having to play a HE team in the big games, but losing to Providence is different. They deserved this championship for all those years of hardship. This could have been BC or UNC or Maine, but somehow the fact that it is Providence softens the pain.

I haven't posted in several years, but I've been going to the games. Just wanted to add that I'm really proud of this team. From 10-21-4 to the National Championship game, with the youngest team in the country and a second year head coach. The future is very, very bright, and I'm really excited to see how this team does the next decade or two.

Yeah, O'Connor messed up and he knows he messed up. So what. The rest of the team sucked during the third period. Whether it was nerves or being too young to respond the way Providence was able to, it was a team loss and that's fine. A lot of players gained a lot of experience and this was an absolutely awesome season from beginning to end. Someone mentioned Hohmann - I thought his effort all season was really great. Tough to see him, and everyone else, hurting. I think this team gave more than many BU teams have in the past - it seems like they never took a shift off, let alone a game (or weekend) off like some teams in the past. It'll be tough to see some guys move on and to go five months and a few weeks without hockey, but I'm looking forward to the future.

I am sure no one feels worse than O'Connor. It really is going to jurt, both short term and long term.
He had a terrific season, shouldering the entire load after Maguire had to red-shirt the season.
He has always been a great shot-stopper, really improved on not giving away so many rebounds, and reportedly had 14 NHL teams interested in signing him.

He gave up two of the worst goals in the history of the Frozen Four, both game-changers at the worst of times. BU hung on to beat the Former Sioux, but the next one was just like Buckner's error (it didn't actually cost the game, but set the stage for it).
How many NHL teams are still interested? How many thousands of free agent dollars did he lose?
And for as well as he played all season, that goal is what he will be remembered for most.

After 2013-14, is there anyone that wouldn't have taken a Beanpot, Hockey East regular season title, Hockey East playoff championship, Hobey Award winner, trip to the Frozen Four and the national championship game ... with the youngest team in the country?
I would have bit your hand of for that kind of season.

And there is plenty of incentive still there for this team. It might even bring a couple of them back, who might have been lost, to finish the job.

Good season guys. Tough way to end it, if I didn't know better I'd think another patented Northeastern collapse had happened out there, but knowing BU I'm sure that you'll find a way to lose 10 players and somehow come back with an even better team next year. See you on February 1st.

Edit: Also I apologise for Rossi thinking that posting the exact same thing in every thread is funny.

Been reading the posts for past 2 hours and have to say that the last few from Harry C, Chickod and BU Fan 84 have provided the perspective we want to have looking forward. The future is red hot for this program. We lost a brutally tough one to Northern Michigan in 1991 and then came back to win in 1995. We lost to Cornell in 1967 then came back and won back to back in 71 & 72. Quinn has turned the program around in just 2 years and his recruits for next two classes is Aces. I can easily see another golden period for the next 10-15 years. That would be nice. Again, losing to Providence softens the blow. Their diehards are great fans. They deserved it.

This. I feel like I'm living in bizarro world. BC fans in here showing more grace than some of the BU diehards. At the end of the game, this couple behind me who were PC fans yelled "Get off the ice you crybabies!!!!" to the BU players who were laying on the ice devastated after that loss. And the three BC fans sitting in front of me turned around and were horrified. I almost hugged them.

Was losing the game that way worse than if Providence just smoked us, like, 5-2? I can't tell. Either way, it sucks. But - and sorry to say it Jofa - this was an incredible season. We're raising five banners in October. Five. I'm looking forward to next season.

And RossiRules...did that make you feel better? I'm glad. Also, thanks for the hospitality at Matthews yesterday where I watched a one of my team's players win the Hobey Baker Award. It was pretty awesome. They also announced the All American teams. Two Terriers made that as well. Great day over there. You shoulda gone.

I am a Harvard fan but was watching tonight with interest as I know the O'Regan family, wonderful people. BU had a season to be very proud of. BU fans should be very proud of their team and ALL the members of that team. It is a young team and should have a great future. It was well played hockey by both sides and a great game for a fan like me to watch.

But it's true. We WILL be back again. So will they. And PROVICED, provided they don't get kicked out of Hockey Rast. Even (ugh) BC. That's the beauty in sports. Every new season you begin undefeated with the ultimate goal of winning a bunch of trophies. We got a good chunk of 'em this year, just not the last one. Hats off to the Friars, thanks to Cason and E-Rod, probably Eichel, maybe D O'R and O'C for a magical ride. Who's next to power the Terriers on our next quest?

I saw the same guy tonight as I was trudging through North Station with my 7 year old, who was in tears. The UND guy gave me a hug, said 'You'll be back here again.' My boy told him this was his first FF.

Your son would have been me when I was that age. And I also thought about this...I watched us win two National Championships (1978/95) in Providence. Almost fitting that they win one in Boston. Funny how the world works...there's almost a kind of symmetry. And somewhere in the back of my head there's this haunting feeling that this is a kind of payback for the way we stole one in '09. BU will be back - Quinn has cleaned up the carnage that Jack left in only two years. The future looks bright, and since we can't go back. let's get on with it!

I'm still upset about the loss, especially that the reason they lost was because of these new bad habits that they didn't nip in the bud — like not forechecking in the third period.

But I'm over it, sort of. Yes, I wanted to win the thing, but I think this will motivate the team next year. I was in DC for arguably the greatest hockey game of my life, and I don't think anything could top that. BU lost in the NC game in 1994, and look what happened the next year. BU still has a strong team, and while it'll be tough losing Hohmann and Rodrigues (and Eichel?), there's still a good crop to come about next year. At least there's a future, we hope.

Absolutely devastated the first 10mins or so and probably still not completely over it but for now, just want to thank the team for what was otherwise a great season and congrats to the Friars.

you won't ever get over it, just like Miami will never get over 2009 but it happens. BC fans know this feeling too and boy does it suck. You have the right handle on it though. You guys had a terrific season but for BU and a handful of other schools it's all about the final prize. There are a bunch of you on here that i genuinely feel for, great fans and posters. There's nothing to do except try to put it in the rear view mirror and on to next year and The Rivalry continues.

OMG, this news just out of Boston, BU goaile Matt O'Connor noticibly upset as a result of his horrifc play in the NCAA national champinship game, arrived back at campus and jumped directly in front of an MBTA bus on Comm Ave. in front of Marsh Chapel, No worries it went thru his legs! He is fine! LOL!

this isn't the least bit funny but i have an idea for you and your team, how about joining the party once in a while and while we are at it, beat BU when it actually means something. Your rival? It's laughable as is your team and it's pathetic history
