No, I think Rodrigues knew exactly what he was doing. Pattyn -- their captain, for crying out loud -- was clearly about to boil over. Why not give him a tweak, see if he takes the bait. Sure enough, now their captain is off in the box for the remainder of the game.

Well you're going to keep hearing it because they are actually naming the NCAA Division 1 trophy the "Eichel Award". Awarded to the team that has displayed their ability to score as much as Eichel, get as many points as Eichel, carry a team as hard as Eichel, and just overall having Eichel like performance. Since only one team in the league even has an Eichel, the Eichel Award will go to the Boston University Eichels. Their new name as of right now.
All I ever hear is Eichel, Eichel, Eichel!!! Well congratulations to him and his trophy. Now let's have that be all for the rest of the weekend, shall we???

Pattyn was leaving the ice at the time. He wouldn't typically be on the ice in the last minute situation anyway. From a UND perspective, taking him and Rodrigues off together was a net plus.

I thought you were kidding. If Eichel didn't win this year the award would have become a sham on a par with the Grammy's. While I'm sure its not representative of the season he had, UND's goalie single handedly cost them a trip to the Finals. They were down by 1 late and he'd already given up two sieve goals. For him to then turn around the next day and collect the Hobey over the guy who took over the game at his expense would have been a travesty a sham and a mockery. A travshamockery in short.
