Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Finally found some time....

- What an exciting and nerveracking game. I can't believe this team is going to play for the title. I hope prices come down...
- I felt very good after the first 10 minutes - regardless of the score, BU could clearly "hang" with UND, and in fact were getting the better opportunities
- Thank goodness for the youngsters (Eichel, Hickey, Somerby, Greer), picking up for the brain farts of the upperclassmen (in addition to O'Connor and E-Rod, I'll add Grzelcyk for passing to a winger who was changing, causing the Too Many Men call). I can't overstate how DUMB that play by E-Rod was. I mean, he would have given a team that had all the momentum an effective two-man advantage for the last minute-plus of the game. And for what?
- Really glad for Greer. That was the key goal of the game. UND had all the momentum, and that goal came out of nowhere. What a shot. His draft spot slimbed at least 4 slots on that goal.
- Good to see Eichel play a good game, given his less than usual output in the regional.
- As usual, SO many UND fans. I'm bummed about the Sioux logo....that is the most beautiful logo in sports, and in my opinion, does nothing but bring honor to the Sioux. But I won't pretend to be able to know how they feel personally.
- Omaha looked terrible. Similar to Minnesota in Manchester, they looked like they didn't really belong on the same ice as PC.
- Great for Hockey East. In what seemed like a weak overall year, having a champion is nice.

I'm sure there will be more comments, but that's it for now.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

I don't think BU should win tomorrow. What worries me is that BU has been lackadaisical in the last two NCAA games this season. Now, it's fun if BU comes out well in the end — think UMD and Miami — but what happens if Gillies locks down BU, and holds them to a goal, PC scores one, and then there's a bad play by our goalie, who either ricochets one off a defender, or goes sailing behind the net. Well, now BU's in trouble.

I remember the scariest moment of the 2009 postseason happened about 15 seconds after Nick Bonino's goal, when a shot on Kieran Millan disappeared, and the only thing keeping Miami from getting their first national title was Matt Gilroy keeping a forward away long enough for Millan to cover up.

They didn't come out well against Yale for two periods either...Dominated the third and OT though

They came out against Yale, but I think Yale had an awesome gameplan for them. Bulldogs basically held the blueline at the boards, and prevented BU from coming in with their odd-man rush. I don't remember how many times BU was either offsides or had to get back onsides because of it. They clogged the passing lanes and basically allowed BU to funnel long-distance or low shots against Lyon, who's a really good goaltender.

My All-America Preditions:

Eichel: First Team
Rodrigues: Second Team
Grzelcyk: Second Team

I haven't really thought through who else from other schools would make it. I'm sure Vesey will be first team, and perhaps that Notre Dame defenseman (Russo?) will get on one of the teams.

With three points last night, Eichel has 70, tied for fifth best in a season by a Terrier with Vic Stanfield and Steve Stirling, who captained BU's first national championship team in 1971. Fourteen years later in 1985, he coached Providence to their only other championship game appearance, a 2-1 loss to RPI.

So who is next up the list? I know the top is with Garritty 84 and McEachern with 82 in 1991. None of the others in between are in my realm of exposure to the team...

#3 is Rick Meagher--80 points and, B.E. (before Eichel), the most exciting and dangerous Terrier I've seen. #4 is John Cullen--74 points and the all-time points leader at 241.

Honestly I have touted Rodrigues all year and thought he sb first team HE but I am kind of sick of his punk moves and last night in that situation he didnt look like much of a teammate with that dirty play putting the outcome at risk for his own selfish emotions. A long way of saying GOOD.
