O'Regan, originally a 2013, will come aboard in September. United State of Hockey's comments on the three BU World U18s gold-medal winners:

Matthew Lane — If you didn’t know much about Lane before, you better start learning. He was named one of Team USA’s best three players at the tournament and was more than deserving of that honor. Lane posted seven points (3g-4a), but was so much more than that. With his strong forechecking and ability to win just about every puck battle he was in shows that he can be a force. Lane’s speed is his standout tool. He might be Team USA’s fastest forward. He’s not just fast though, as he knows how to use his speed to generate offense. Lane’s line with J.T. Compher and Frankie Vatrano had a lot to do with Team USA’s success at the tournament. It is likely that Lane jumped up a round or two with his play at the U18 Worlds. Committed to Boston University.

Daniel O’Regan — The lone non-NTDP player on the roster may have been the biggest surprise of the tournament. O’Regan has some incredible puck skills and creativity and may have been Team USA’s best center at the tournament. O’Regan had four points including a dazzling goal against Sweden’s Oscar Dansk in which the American forward put his skills on display. After picking up a loose puck, O’Regan skated in and deked Dansk out of his jock before stuffing it five-hole. O’Regan has a high upside because of his puck skills and good hockey sense. As he builds strength, he could become an offensive force. Committed to Boston University.

Matthew Grzelcyk – This tournament provided Grzelcyk to show that he can hack it at a high level. It was a very strong event for the somewhat under-sized defenseman. Though he posted just one goal, Grzelcyk showed off his tremendous hockey sense and ability to make smart, calm decisions with the puck. He absorbs pressure well and can get away from traffic with good foot work and puck handling. The offensive tools are there for Grzelcyk to be a point-producer, too. His lone goal came on the power play against Canada in the prelims. It was a well-placed heavy slap shot, showing that he can really hammer it. His size never really appeared to be an issue despite seeing a lot of time against bigger, stronger forwards. Committed to Boston University

Saw this a few place on the Web. Jack Eichel, the top 1996 birthdate in New England has committed to BU for 2014.

Jack Eichel ’96, F, committed yesterday to Boston University. Eichel uses his reach to create space. As he fills out, he will be able to create even more space to the dread of opponents, who already have to deal with his tremendous skating, puck and shooting skills.

“He is one of the most talented kids in that birth year,” said Tim Taylor. “He is a very good candidate for the National Team Development Program. He has a good combination of skills and hockey sense and he has a very good body for the game.”.

He’s a real special player with tons of talent,” said Junior Bruins coach Chris Masters (Lexington, Mass.), who has guided scores of Div. 1 players and NHL players such as Bobby Butler, Greg Mauldin and Adam Pineault through the program. “In the 10 or 12 years I’ve been coaching, I’m not sure there’s a player I’ve coached that’s as talented as he is. If he’s not the most talented, he’s certainly in that discussion.”

“There’s a reason why he’s as good as he is and a big part of that is the time and effort he puts into it,” said Masters, who has known Eichel since he was 8 and playing on summer tournament teams. “He’s always been one of the best ’96s, but over the last several years he has continually distanced himself from his age group.

“His greatest asset is what he can do with the puck, whether he is setting plays up or finishing. He has a vicious release. His snap shot is really heavy. A couple coaches, when we’re shaking hands after a game, are talking about a shot he took. He’s a natural goal scorer, but he’s not a kid that’s going to have 40 goals and 10 assists. He’ll have 40 and 35.”

Eichel will join 2014 recruit Jonathan MacLeod in Ann Arbor on the NTDP U17s next season. Played for the Empire Jr. Bruins this past year 39-47-86 in 36 games.

Eichel is great news, especially great to see Parker pull in premium recruits over BC even with their recent success. Combine that with the news of O'Regan coming this year and McLaughlin/Boston Hockey Blog speculating that Kurker looks like he's willing to wait for 2013, an this has been a very good week for news. These next few classes really seem loaded.

Says Eichel is 2014 OR 2015. 2014 would mean he enters as a 17 year old, 2015 as 18. Based on what I've heard, sounds like he's elite enough to come in in 2014, but I don't think it'd hurt to wait the extra year. But obviously depends on the other few classes coming in.

Does this push back Polesello's entry to BU at all?

Don't follow BU but saw the kid in Indy this year and thought that he could be a stud college player but one more year in the USHL would do a TON of good for him; top 6 minutes, PP, etc.

I think little Privitera is being pushed back to 2013 so it shouldn't affect Polesello

Easily the best offseason week since Wilson and Gilroy both decided to stay one more year, yet still easily worse than that week.

I think little Privitera is being pushed back to 2013 so it shouldn't affect Polesello

Don't count your chickens, there's still opportunity for current players to jump. I don't have any info, just saying it's still quite possible, especially since it's obvious Parker can't recruit anymore.

Obviously, but that wouldn't change the grade for last week, the offseason as a whole sure, but it'd still have been a good week for the program, and not just for next year.

Maybe a better question to ask is if Jacko is going to be around by the time some of these recruits a few years out are due to head to Egganus.

I guess only time will tell?

I stopped getting excited about these "highly ranked" recruits a while ago. I'll get excited when they actually show up on campus and do something tangible on the ice. Until then, it's just a name.
