BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Now confirmed by Chris Heisenberg for 2013. Baillargeon, who had 30-34-64 for Cushing as sophomore, picked BU over UNH, NU and Maine.

2012: Polesello, J.Privitera, O'Connor
2013: Baillargeon, Collier, O'Regan, Erne, Grzelcyk
2014: DeAngelo

2013 class thus far is all from New England. That's certainly a change from recent years.

Rogie, Where's Hetnik? Note he's not reported on Heisenberg yet.

A CSS scout recently spoke very highly of Robbie Baillargeon:

His scoring stats speak for themselves. I saw him play once this season and the only potential downside I could see was his size - he's kind of lanky at 6' and 170 pounds. No doubt, he will bulk up as he gets older.

Just curious - where did you find the information that he "picked BU over UNH, NU and Maine"? I've always wondered what the source is for this type of information - which commonly appears on United States Hockey Report (USHR). Of course, the best source would be an interview with the player but I rarely see that published anywhere. Also, I'm not sure what picking one college over another actually means. Does it mean that:
~ One or more college programs made a formal offer to the player and his family.
~ The player visited each campus but did not receive an offer.
~ A second cousin twice removed heard that the player thought about going to that college. :)

Thanks for the information.

My mistake. I think you'll see his name on CH's site soon.

Sorry, I can't share the source, but it is an extremely reliable one. In most cases, the "other colleges" listed are the finalists from whom the recruit made his decision. USHR occasionally mentions schools that were interested earlier in the recruiting process. For example, several years ago, BU had been interested in UMD's Mike Connolly, but decided not to pursue him.

Fair enough.
On the UNH Recruit thread, I speculated that the increased buzz about Baillargeon's NHL draft potential and his interest in BU could be more than a coincidence. You folks have seen some high-round draft picks stop off at BU on their way to the NHL in recent years. They must have seen BU as a place that could enhance their potential NHL career. Do you know whether this was a factor in Baillargeon's decision? (Thanks again).

Do you know if his academics were good enough to go Ivy? I was hoping Harvard was in the running for his services, but wasn't sure if he could pass the academic sniff test. I'm optimistic for Eddie Ellis.

If you're a Harvard guy, you guys are getting a real gem in Colin Blackwell. He's a skilled hockey player and a fantastic person. Great leadership qualities, solid knowledge of the game, real motivated kid . . . he's a steal for Harvard.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re Rob Baillargeon, his coach at Cushing, Rob Gagnon, called him a "natural goal scorer" and provided this comment:

"I compare him to Nick Bonino, except he skates better than Nick did. His strengths are his skating and stick skills as well as his hockey IQ. He does need to improve his consistency of always bringing it each shift. His top level is really high, but when he takes a shift off he is then just a good player. I think the sky is the limit once he figures out how to be consistent. "

Steal is an understatement. Great kid. It was a pleasure watching him play in the Super Eight (even though I was on the losing end).

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

If he's from Cushing, then expect him to not get through clearinghouse like Keith Yandle or not go to class like Chris Bourque.

hey, bobby allen just called. he said go f yourself.

:D

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2012 recruit Matthew O'Connor to attend Ottawa's rookie camp, before beginning his second season with Youngstown/USHL.
