BU offseason thread - this begs some questions!

Re: BU offseason thread - this begs some questions!

He also said Quesnelle probably staying on staff. Not sure you guys will be thrilled with that but I agree that Pearl would be a good addition. If Pearl is considering a lateral move title wise, I'd imagine he'd be getting a decent salary bump from BU.

Other than one poster's baseless conjecture, haven't heard anyone unhappy with Quesnelle, who apparently is very well-liked by the team.

If Pearl is indeed hired, BU would have a new head coach without prior head coaching experience and two assistants who have been D1 head coaches.

Pearl would be home run add to the staff IMO. Great recruiter too.

Agreed. With Albie not having any HC experience and his proficiency as a recruiter, having assistants with HC experience and whose combined strengths cover player development, Xs/Os, and recruiting will make the staff as a whole very well-rounded.

That sounds like...conjecture. But of course, I'm sure you have a source. Being well liked by your team does not make you a good coach. Disclaimer: not saying he isn't a good coach. Although I did find it to be an odd hire.

Mike McMahon thinks Paul Pearl will be jumping from Harvard to BU. Pearl basically saved Ted Donato’s job.
Hmm. That would make Rob Rassey Harvard's senior assistant. Really smart young guy. Could have gone to Harvard. Hard worker who walked on and blossomed in his senior year at NU. Seems to be able to recruit top talent. If you can't get Pearl, you might want to consider Rob. Albie may have overlapped with him during his time on Huntington Ave.

BU can hire Pearl for their vacant coaching position, Harvard can hire Keefe to replace him, NU can hire Rassey to replace Keefe. Pay raises all around!

You are very kind and thoughtful, but it can't happen. Harvard has been known to be "thrifty" in these areas. You know, it's a "privilege" to work/coach at Harvard and to be able to add that fact to your CV. Rob is/was single and can afford such an honor. OTOH, Jerry has a family and couldn't afford such a pay cut! I guess Pearl must be independently wealthy after many years of simultaneously coaching two teams at HC.;)

2nd sports bet (LEGAL) ever made in NJ was for John Hynes to lead the devils to win the cup in 2019

Re: BU offseason thread - this begs some questions!

Is the composition of the BU coaching staff, and who stays and/or goes, entirely Albie's call? Obviously there are budget limitations to work with, but aside from that..........?

You can't fault Ryan O'Connell with going somewhere that will give him more playing time. Just nice to have the depth so it is a loss there.

Dom Vidoli joining Blixt as a freshman defensemen in the fall.

Quesnelle has head coaching experience at Princeton. Four seasons, 29-84-11 record. Last two seasons - 8-50-4.

It should be, yes. Outside of the AD or administration approving things from a financial end, the head coach of any team should be the one making the final call on who is most qualified to be their assistant/associate.
