BU >> Hot for Maine

Re: BU >> Hot for Maine

That was my first visit to Agganis, and what a game to go to!! I knew it would be a battle, but man! That was an AWESOME game! 2 very good teams duking it out.

Re: BU >> Hot for Maine

Interesting some say that Maine is big. Other than a coupla defensemen and Dee, I dont see it. House (who is a house) wasnt even out there. Take a look at UND if you wanna see big....and mean. :D I alwayz thot Maine was donwsizing particularly up front.

I guess this weekend shud erase any doubts (if there were any) about the quality of the BU team. Hope to see the dawgs way, way late in the season. One of these HE teams or BC needs to continue playing National Champion keep away from he WCHA. :)

Very entertaining game. Up and down action all night. Many quality chances for both teams. Fitting to end in a tie. Looking forward to the two game set at the Alfond.

Watched the game on the BU feed and was impressed with the announcers. Very objective and knowledgable.

Couldn't agree more. Best game I've seen in a long time. Teams fought hard and the game featured a ton of size and skill. A ton of Maine fans in my section (101) and they were a pleasure. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful. They cheered loudly for their team and didn't cheer "against" BU.

Fitting to end in a tie.

Good stuff. Makes me want to make the drive up to Alfond...

Seems like the timeout was a big difference. Evidently Maine had BU tired and unfocused until that timeout. The shots were somewhere around 12 to 1 in the period until that timeout. Parker's comments about the defense are refreshing(in the recap on this site). On the 1510 station Timmay mentioned he thought Oullette may be the most talented goalie but hasn't played yet. Seems like Sullivan is very capable and probably better than Darling. From what I saw he plays big and square like Howard, good positioning and rebound control. Nice to see Maine come back from adversity and earn a point on the road.

It is probably because some of the more tenacious guys are the smaller guys. For example, Diamond plays bigger than he is because of his tenacious nature. But I agree, it seems like overall the team size is lower this year compared to recent years. But this team is tenacious and that is where the comments come from more than likely.

Call me crazy, but I 'd like to see Sirman get fridays tilt against NU, Sullivan the saturday game and Oullette take a shot on the following friday against BC at BC....you just never know when a talented young goalie like Oullette, chomping at the bit to show what he can do on a big stage, just might steal one on the road. Chances of Maine winning that first game at BC are slim anyway....BC will be amped up beyond 13kv anyway.....so if he steals it ....super, if not you bring in Sirman to mop up and you give Sully the start Sunday. IMO, you gotta get these guyz heads to swell up a bit in terms of confidence, and its best to get all 3 at once.;)

I will tellya one thing....I really like Sullivans consistency thus far. He's focusing well and is fundamentally sound. Jimmy Howard....nah, but certainly someone you can count on.

Corkum, Anthoine, and Mangene have size, speed, and skill.

I hope Corkum keeps playing. Minus that penalty he looked awesome. Tons of energy.

Corkum looked fast. It was great to see. Anthoine put a nice hit on Chiasson, and Chiasson chased him around jawing at him for a while after. Good stuff.

Re: BU >> Hot for Maine

Corkum looked like someone who could benefit from more playing time, I'll say that much.

Obviously, he played with tons of energy, but from the BU video feed, it also looked like he was a little game-rusty. Lots of little mistakes mixed in with the good things (and the penalty). But my takeaway was that he definitely showed potential.

Darling had potential too bad he blew it. When I saw Sully play against Acadia, I went this guy can't move side to side at all. But he does square up and he plays big and he moves better than he did so maybe it was rust. I still want to see Ouellette

The consensus is Ouellette is the best goalie of the three, but he's still very young. The team appears to have the most confidence in Sullivan right now.

Why bring in a goalie when he's at an age where you're not confident to put him in? I don't expect they will redshirt him, so why waste most of a year's eligibility to have the "best goalie" ride the pine?

The biggest issue is, he got hurt in dryland training , couldn't practice and is behind the other 2 goalies in terms of preperation. He'll play

Re: BU >> Hot for Maine

Very good game for Maine last night. fast-paced, up and down all night, a little chippy ;) good game to watch. Thought by the third when maine took the lead they were pretty much dominating BU, but they did sit back a little, not completely like Timid Tim teams of the past, but a bit. Can't do much about a puck that caroms around the crease and in off a Maine skate with the extra attacker on. BU's other goal was a PP goal, Maine D lost his player off to the side a bit when he turned to protect the shot from right in the slot, and the guy made a great pass over to him wide open off the low circle. Can't ask them to play a much better road game in that kind of environment. BU fans were loud.

Maine D played very well, Van Dyk looks like a totally dicfferent player from last season and the first few games of this one. Cornell started out on the fourth line, but after losing O'Neil, went back to D with Mangene double shifted. I ws trying to figure out what was going on when i first noticed this in the second period.

Sullivan was huge. Not a lot of BU shots in the first, but a lot missed the net, and there was chaos in front all the time, and he looked soolid and steady in his positioning. And he did make a ton of great saves to keep Baine in this game, BU is just fast and tenacious and always attacking. May have played a better game than Darling ever gave us.

Thought Corkum played great, and nice to see that name in a Maine uniform on the ice. Glad to see he hadn't got his bell wrung as badly as feared when I first heard the news about him in practice. The hit from behind notwithstanding, that's just youthful aggressiveness in his first game, but this team can use a player like him. Get him, Beattie and Anthoine knocking some people around, and it can only be a good thing for the rest of the guys on the team to capitalize on. Had back to back wristers point blank in the slot late in the third that he just sent high, but they were lazers, Dee-like. Mangene was all over the ice, if he could just bury some of the chances he got. Sort of Todd Jenkins/Jackson thing out there, his speed creates all sorts of chances that he can't quite seal the deal on. Need to get Shemansky potting some goals again, too.

Lots of scrums and shenaigans in front and after the whistle, typical Maine-BU rivalry. BU blocked a ton, a ton, of shots and passes on the night too, those guys were everywhere with sticks and bodies getting in front of Maine shooters.

they brought him in in part because sirman was a question mark after last season. sirman's gaa was over 5.00 last year and if he was not up to the task they wanted to have other options... i suspect the thought was that sirman might fall to the #3spot behind both of them... fast forward and ouellette hurts himself, and sirman puts up a decent gaa despite a poor save percentage (though it must be mentioned, of the 8 goals sirman has given up, 3 were scored while maine was killing a penalty). 5 even strength goals in three games has secured his spot for now...

5 or so years ago, Jackie had his best goalie riding the pine. it took 2 injuries to find out that Curry was the best of the bunch. (EggAnus tells me that I am wrong about this... I will have to speak again with Coach Geragosian and Brian Daccord, apparently they were both mistaken, but what do they know about goalies and groin injurie? I will see if they are interested in writing an apology)

And I gotta say, I like (or really hate) what Geragosian has done with Millan...that kid is solid (finally)... and that sucks! [/I]

Re: BU >> Hot for Maine

listening to the game last night and thinking back, i don't remember hearing shemansky's name at all last night...

If you remember, almost all of his goals last season came off tip ins from the side of the net, off Abbott feeds.
I am pretty sure that Shemansky has only scored on "shots" twice, both of rebounds out front.
