BU Hockey '25-'26: Can we keep up the run to Vegas?

Tynan Lawrence coming early to BU this semester,

I guess good? I don't think adding yet another very young forward is the catalyst to fix this team's issues. Hopefully he can help.

I'm laughing at the comment about how BC gets it about midseason arrivals. Like BU doesn't. BU is the king of midseason arrivals. Been doing it forever. Big Mike was a midseason arrival. Freddy Meyer anyone? That's how far back BU has been doing it.

And congrats to Sascha!! I hope they recognize him at Agganis on Saturday.

that was the joke. congrats. high five.

You guess it's good that we added a player who has a shot to be the #1 overall pick this year?
Name one recent player who was tabbed to be #1 who has played well for the Terriers!! OK, sure, name another. 🤣

Only saw a few reports but read some similarities to Eichel…effortless skating, vision, passing, well-rounded, less about highlight reel moves…strong on forecheck and plays hard at both ends of the ice. Yeah, they could use some of that.

Holy shit! I didn't see that one coming. Adding a Top 5 pick to the team at the break. Wow. So, is this our spine now?

1 - Lawrence
2 - Boisvert
3 - Svoboda
4 - Morello

If you have the Athletic. Scouting on most of the World Junior players (Bednarik skipped.) Praise for Hutson. Bad marks for Eiserman.

Bomber, I think a finally-healthy Boisvert stays as the top line center. IMO Lawrence would slot in at #3 behind Bednarik (or visa versa). Svoboda has been very effective at RW and still can take key faceoffs.

Oh boy here we go. :) 1) Nobody has Lawrence going #1. Most prognosticators listed on Elite Prospects have him between 4-9 in a draft that is very weak for Centers. 2) He is certainly not seen at the level of a Celebrini and Eichel. I know your comparison to Eichel is style more than apples to apples talent level, but this is the direction we tend to go on.

Getting Yegorov last midseason filled a direct need and spured BU's postseason run. Our issues this year seem to be youth and its struggling transition to NCAA level hockey. Yes, he is a prime talent, but he doesn't *directly* solve that weakness. Look, I hope the kid scores 20 goals by the end of the year. I just don't think that this move alone sets up BU for post-season glory. I, among many others, got over-excited about the abundance of young talent BU brought in this season. I'm trying to temper my own excitement as much as any others in the hope we're not disappointed again.

both reactions are valid, but in a season that has gone to the dogs an injection of a highly anticipated recruit is worth celebrating, especially when his standout traits involve the issues that the team has this year.

re: draft rankings- Lawrence gets overlooked because he’s in the USHL (and started the year injured) and is obviously way too good for it. he isn’t really challenged at that level. his clark cup performance was insane last year. the prospect guys in the know have said regularly that he has the potential to rise up if he absolutely goes off, but he hasn’t had much of an opportunity. the wjc boosted the stock of the other big challengers to McKenna and he’s getting kinda left behind. this is a smart move for him in that sense.

i don’t think anyone is realistically expecting he fixes all the underlying problems- Yegorov was a truly unique situation, in where he came from (the worst USHL franchise) the opportunity he had (open starter spot) and the team around him being better-but he can certainly make a difference in the locker room and the makeup of the top 6.

Definitely have to accede to that point!

Say he does flourish at BU and his draft stock goes up to number 1, might we not even see him next season? SJS had no qualms bringing Macklin in at age 18.

Macklin has to be an exception still though. I mean...it still weirds me out when I see him play and my brain said "that's a 19 year old."

can echo bold and underline BUPhD’s point as a current sharks STH who watches every game- that kid is one of a kind. lawrence is great but half a season wouldn’t be enough. if he came the beginning of the year and was really exceptional (like a serious hobey baker threat) then maybe but i doubt it

Agree. I'm thinking Lawrence is going to have a Macklin-like second half to move to #1 considering his lack of playing time earlier this season. He'd have to leap over 3-6 players depending on what list you're looking at. Assuming the stats are correct, Lawrence has decent size (6'; 185#) like Macklin had. He has 15 pounds on Gavin McKenna with the same height.

Shifting the discussion for a bit, I liked that Bob Motzko benched Eiserman for his incredibly sloppy no-look back pass that set up a game changing goal for the Swedes. I’d like to see a more of that at BU especially when very talented players play sloppy, careless hockey. Messages like that are very instructive and noticed by everyone on the bench.

The ‘mistake’ I made was asking for 2026 draft rankings and the first one in the list was The NY Times/ The Athletic putting Tynan Lawrence #1 in their December 2025 rankings. If one believes AI provides a consensus view, it says Lawrence is a Top 5 pick, challenging for #1.

With the addition of Lawrence, Merrill returning soon, plus having Boisvert and Fondrk back to full health, the competition at forward for lineup slots increases--which can only be a good thing. First semester injuries caused endless juggling and weakened lineups that had D-men Frechette and Kym at forward, as well as 8 starts for Feldberg.

Was Lawrence always coming to BU and he decided to come early? I swear I remember his name listed as a BU recruit. Of course, I could be making that up in my head.

Yes, Scarlet. He committed to BU on Aug. 1, 2024, the first day that 2008s could give their verbal. You might recall that his older brother, Josh, had been a BU commit, then decided to play MJ in the Q. Pandolfo's media call is today, so we'll see what he has to say about bringing Lawrence in and his role. Will put that on the blog later today.
