BU at Maine -- 11/08/09

Re: BU at Maine -- 11/08/09

Connolly shot got behind Darling but was clear, then Maine had an odd-man rush shorthanded to give Nyquist another good chance.

Re: BU at Maine -- 11/08/09

Darling initiated the contact. Chiasson has a right to the puck just as much as Darling does.

Refs didn't see anything in real time but reviewed because Maine whined.

Maybe the ghost of Walsh messed with the refs minds. ;)

??? They reviewed the goal. He has a right to the puck, yes, but he cannot enter the crease before the puck gets there, unless he was pushed in. Teams ask for goal reviews all the time, it's not uncommon. In this case, Chiasson was in the crease before the puck. He touched the puck while in the crease. That is illegal.

Re: BU at Maine -- 11/08/09

2 for tripping on someone on BU, 2 for diving on O'Neill, O'Neill adds a 10 minute misconduct for arguing.

Also, end 2.

thats not the rule anymore

A player of the attacking team may stand on the goal crease line or in the goal crease, or skate through the goal crease, unless, in the opinion of
the official, the player is physically or visually preventing the goalkeeper
from defending the goal. A player of the attacking team may stand or
stay in the crease when the puck is in the crease or when the player has
possession of the puck.

Re: BU at Maine -- 11/08/09

BU outshot Maine 13-4 for the period and has a 23-12 shot advantage through two despite the two-goal deficit.

Re: BU at Maine -- 11/08/09

Either way, seeing as he was standing right in front of Darling, I think he was at least visually inhibiting him.

You can visually inhibit him as long as you don't touch him or prevent him from physically making the save.

Just blocking his view isn't enough. Refs blew it. Again.

"visually preventing the goalkeeper from defending the goal."

i didnt see the play. i had just (re)learned the rule the other day after BC had a goal disallowed against UNH.

IMO, if Chiasson scores the goal himself, he isnt preventing Darling from doing anything. However, If he doesnt touch the puck and it goes right in, you could make a strong case for interference.
