BU 2021-22: Albie's Great Adventure

They look better, for sure.

But put this "unbeaten streak" in perspective. It's 4 regulation Ws, 2 OT Ws, and a shootout which counts as a tie based on technicality. Also an exhibition loss.

UNH: W
UNH: W OT
BC: T SOL
U18: L
Brown: W
ASU: W
ASU: W
UConn: W OT

Brown and UNH are both horrible teams. ASU and UConn are average at best. We massively blew the game against a mediocre BC squad.

On the season, they have one victory over a team who'd be in the tournament right now. They still have five putrid non-efforts against Northern, UConn, Sacred Heart, and Merrimack (all >20 PWR) from the fall.

They're playing better, but need to prove they can beat quality competition before we can even talk about the PWR.

Agreed with BB on his perspective of the unbeaten streak. Trying to hang on 3rd period last night was costly lost 2 pts against UConn. Yes the quality of teams hasn’t been great but who in HE is great team. No one. A big bunch of mediocre

While the ties have hurt a lot in the PWR, we can draw at least some solace from the SOS (strength of schedule) in the RPI indices. We have been playing a tougher schedule then many. Still.....

I would say we have an easier SOS ahead of us, which may hurt for PWR. I don't think BU is capable in finishing for an at large so PWR might not even matter. Good part of easier SOS is hockey east points. BU has 10 more Hockey East games with 5 of them being against UVM and Maine. Both are bottom 7 in country via PWR. at least 4 regulation wins is crucial IMO. Need to get as many Hockey East points for playoff position. Single elimination playoffs is scarier with no first round bye.

Last series of season is at Maine which could be most important series of the season before going into playoffs. We'll be desperate for points and opposing teams always have issues playing up in Orono

so you boys are claiming it’s NIT or bust?!?

To continue with the mixed metaphors, Commesso (once he gets back from the Olympics) is going to have to throw shutouts or scatter two hits over 8 innings because runs are going to be hard to come by for this team especially in back-to-back-to-back games (if they get that far).

I looked at the video archive of the game and it appears that UConn's Bradley slew-footed Ethan Phillips. You can watch it at College Sports Live. The video starts at 14:55 and the incident is at 14:22. UConn sent the puck all the way down the ice and the camera followed it, but on the extreme right of the screen you can see Phillips come into view as he goes down with Bradley just behind him.

It's a major, so a pretty big penalty for the refs to miss. Then again, Coach O'Connell apparently didn't ask for a video review of it either. Still, BU should have had a 5 minute major early in the game and UConn should have had to play the rest of the game without Bradley, who scored the tying goal for UConn.

Out of curiosity, if Albie didn't ask for a review during the game and it was barely on screen, how does something like this even come to the league's attention? Did the BU coaching staff review video after the game and request it?

Saturday's game is a 4 p.m. start. It's not a NESN game, so why isn't it an evening game? Could it be Vermont doesn't want to spend a second night in a Boston hotel?

BU originally scheduled the annual men's and women's doubleheader at Agganis for Saturday. Unlike previous seasons they decided to have the men play the afternoon game and the women play the night game. When the women's games last weekend were postponed (the second consecutive weekend that happened) and Northeastern's games were also postponed Coach Durocher contacted Coach Flint about playing Saturday's game a week early at Walter Brown. Coach Durocher didn't want to go 21 days between games and Coach Flint agreed to play the game last Saturday.

BTW, the women's BC games were rescheduled for the Saturdays before the Beanpot games, but it may not be possible to reschedule the Maine games.

As the coaching staff does review video after the games that's what I would assume.

So the Friday game is at 7pm (instead of 7:30) and Saturday is at 4pm. I came on here to make a "The scheduler was drunk when they drew up this weekend's slate" joke, but Sean ruined that with facts. : )

Does anyone know when we lose Drew?

According to USA Hockey, the players will gather in LA at the end of the month (Jan. 30/31) and head to Beijing from there in early February. Hopefully Commesso will be available for the Jan. 30, 3 p.m. home game against Providence.

Does anyone know who "Rink Rats" is? This is the fellow who has interviewed Jack Parker, Bill Cleary and Jack Kelley. Good interviews. I think he may a connection to BC hockey through his father.

So Rick Bennett was placed on administrative leave at Union. Wonder what that's all about. I know there were some here that were interested in having him replace Quinn at one point.

Yes, Albie sent this into the league after the game. A missed call, it happens. Call Coach Cav and have a discussion. Instead, he back stabs Cav and sends the tape in with one objective in mind. He really is a miserable prick.
