That was only after the football team left, right?

Giving the BU voices a clear path to the ice :p
Yeah, we commented on the decreased intimidation factor when they departed.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Just to show how out of touch this program is with my segment of the fanbase, alums of the past decade or so:

- Most of us come from work and don't want a pregame meal, and if so, just go to Ts/Sunset.
- Few of us drive, instead walk/take the T
- Direct elevator? Wahoo. See above.
- You can easily get tickets to either of these options through BU or the venue itself
- Very few appealing events at Agganis for which tickets aren't available, and even still we get presale notices as alums
- Souvenirs? Some stickers, or cards, or a poster? Ehhh....
- Alums get a 10% discount already, so this isn't a big plus.

In short, it's just not worth it.

I'm not sure what the profile is of the average premium seat holder, but I think you could expand this to say that the program is for the most part out of touch with the past 2.5 decades of alums.

The group I sit with strongly considered making our seats premium seats, but ultimately we all agreed that sometimes we preferred to eat out at T Anthony's / T's Pub / Sunset / Otto etc etc before the game. At the price point they are charging, it did not seem viable to buy in and then decide to only eat in the club room half of the time. The guaranteed parking is nice, but for the games I eat out pre-game I often find that under the arena is not the most convenient.

As Scarlet mentioned, the souvenirs that I have seen are very high quality.

It sounds like there are also mixed messages coming out. One of our concerns was that if a friend came to the game (as a single game ticket buyer) that we wanted to hang out with, we were told that we would not be able to get him into the club room for dinner (even by paying for him as a "guest").... but it sounds as if you can buy a guest dinner for a single game basis.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Fair points, though if they don't sell the premium-denoted seats to premium season ticket holders and prevent walk-ups from buying it, who's going to buy the seats? It's guaranteeing empty seats. At the same time, I can see your point about paying a premium for a seat and not wanting to have to deal with some yahoo from another school acting like a clown next to you. It's a similar point to what I was making.

Nice to see the souvenir is actually something of significant value, though I'm not entirely sure that would sway too many people in my age bracket into being premium seat holders. The other benefits are almost completely irrelevant to most of us.

Oh, that alone probably not, though I will tell you people who get the stuff, particularly the apparel, all wear it on a regular basis. I like the parking, I love the pre-game dinner because I don't have to worry about the time it would take to find a place to eat and get served in time to make it to the arena. And I don't have to walk outside. I've left my coat in my car so I don't have to drag it up to the arena. I am one of only a few people that actually use the first right of refusal on concerts. I've gone to a few myself and I've had friends ask me about getting tickets when they hear an act is coming. I need to start letting people I know when I get the emails as I usually get people asking me after my window has closed. But whatever. It may not seem like much but I enjoy it and am fortunate enough to be able to pay for it. I love that my name is on my seats as I take a lot of pride that I was a donor from the beginning. And it depends on how you see the value of it all. It's not for everyone. Can they do a better job? Sure, but much like everything else, you can't please everyone.

Not after this year you can't. I have a premium and a companion seat. It's usually just me so I'm actually paying for my seat or bag to have a coat. When I have brought people to use that companion seat I was able to buy a guest pass because the companion seat was part of my package. I was told that after this season, that is no longer the case.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

When the rink opened FoH at levels got club access. (Which changed after Jack's letter and the realization that the accountants came up woefully short).
I never heard this before and always understood that FoH at levels also had to buy premium seats for access to the club room for dinner.

So as premium holders were IN FoH with their donation of premium seats you both got all access of premiums for the price of one (since the loyalty program took your "premium gift" as a donation it was recognized at levels and you got premium access.

The excuse I heard from giving was these were 5 yr commitments at "substantial" donations and were immediately recognized as AR. Fine I replied. But these people were going over me as a long time ticket holder AND contributor withkney already paid. Their 5x~1800 [18 games x $100 premium as noted below] were probably less than I'd already banked, and were continuing to bank. Not to be picky but I know you and scarlet weren't paying 1,000s every summer for the golf tournament and dinner afterwards nor the ones that followed to find the Dion scholarship.
The TLP as started stated that games would be distributed on points.

Now a person can come in and make a 3yr commitment (which is an acct rec of and extra $100/game for 3 yrs) and jump me with a healthy 5 figure total lifetime athletic giving with 20yrs in FoH amd 20yrs a season ticket holder and take tickets.
It is my understanding that people who originally bought premium seats were indeed credited for their total 5 year commitment immediately, jumping many of them up the TLP list. However, I also understand that now BU only credits premium seat holders points with each annual payment. I don't golf so I don't pay to go to the tournament or the dinner. I also am not wealthy so I haven't contributed to any scholarships. In fact, I reduced my support of the men to be able to give support to the women.

As for 2009, I got tickets through the NCAA so I didn't try to get them through BU.

Maybe we got the wrong message. This was a few years ago and may have been the biggest factor in us deciding not to go ahead with it. For us going to the games is in part all about reconnecting with college friends and the concept of not being able to include / have dinner with a friend who only might buy tickets to one or two games a year was a major negative in our eyes.

Can you tell us what year you graduated? And from your experience what would you say is the average profile of the premium club members?

Not that any of the benefits are a bad thing, and it is great for those who use them, but if they are struggling with membership, and the program is not speaking to a significant segment profile of season ticket holders then it may be time for them to re-evaluate or come up with a different tier of membership.

As I said, I believe all current contracts allow you to buy a VIP pass, subject to availability. My new contract (without FoH companion seats) still allows me to buy a VIP pass for each premium seat I have, subject to availability. I was also told that VIP passes are under discussion, one option being to eliminate them and another to not allow walk-in guests, only pre-registered guests.

When the arena opened, if one gave to FoH at a certain level but was not a premium seat holder, that donor had club room access during intermissions. IIRC it was either the old "silver" or "gold" level or higher, and that access was removed after the 2007 or 2008 season.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

As you said Sean (and pointed out on the advertisements) premium are given priority. I learned that superseded the TLP. For years I had lower bowl beanpot tickets 4 rows behind the net. Then when WWA opened my five seats were next to the band.
I asked for an audience to get an explanation and that was it. ALL premium seat holders got dibs, then it went to TLP - of which I was one of the tops.....in those gawd awful seats.

As I stated my case and the stupidity to Jason Factor's predecessor I could see the light come on in his head. But now all these people were guaranteed tickets.

So my annual contribution went from 4 figures annually to 2 figures this year. And my five seats became 2 (and those three as empty every week except for igles visits

And yes at my giving level that first year I had two passes per game to use the club room (girl would go in with one of the boys, (Mookie is a fan of the burnt popcorn WWA serves nightly). That was taken away the next year following Jack's letter but I dropped many levels of giving as well.

No regrets. Mookie's strong Puritan ethic tells him to help those who help themselves. That is not going on in BU's TLP program ;)

(And I didn't find a scholarships. Jack earmarked proceeds from 2 golf tournaments to fund the Dion scholarship - so I only contributed - Mookie takes the red line with you :) )

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Just bought my Friday ticket. $27 sounds great, but of course, $42 after the fees.

Oh well, worth it for sure, to see what should be a couple good games.

Go BU!

Checking in with BU... it seems as if my points are in line... I hope.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Did yours or anyone's cards get charged yet? I asked yesterday and they said they thought they'd be able to fulfill everyone's request.

I did not try to put in for regionals through BU, only Frozen Four. He did say that Manchester should be no issue for anyone and everyone. Frozen Four will likely be only the upper end of the terrier loyalty point system.
