BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

David Van Der Gulik. 93 career points. Points per game... DVG: .66, Gill: .67. And we all know how much everyone loved DVG. He had a solid (shortened) senior season at almost a ppg (22 pts in 25 games).

The difference in talent among those two teams makes VDG's PPG look comparatively more impressive as his Soph and Junior year teams averaged just 2.71 GPG (he was first on the team in points one year and third the other year) compared to Gill's teams with 3.32 (he was 5th and 7th on the team). I think anyone who watched both play would assume that VDG would have put up significantly more than 22 points last year if given Gill's minutes and teammates.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

I'll take a whack
At the lines for this year

Lane. O'regan. Rodrigues
Roberto Hohmann Kurker
Collier. Baillergeron Kelley
Duane. Moran. Ronan/Moscatel

I love Lane, but my thought is that if he is on the first line, we are in trouble. I hope either he improves so much that he earns a top-two-line spot, or that others improve so much (or surprise as freshmen) that we can afford to have him on the 3rd line.

I'll also be surprised if Kelley makes the third line. No basis other than I thought he was lower on the recruiting "get" scale than Duane. And Moran has a year under his belt. Of course, 4th line isn't always reserved for the worst guys, it can be a style of play thing.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

I think we all agree that the whole thing looks better with Gill somehow in the mix.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

With 78 career points in 3 seasons, he was on pace to be a 100 point career guy (just barely). Nothing to sneeze at. Sure guys score more per year and go pro short of the century mark but these guys can be very valuable for depth and as I mentioned before, they can have a nice bump up as a senior.

Comparable: David Van Der Gulik. 93 career points. Points per game... DVG: .66, Gill: .67. And we all know how much everyone loved DVG. He had a solid (shortened) senior season at almost a ppg (22 pts in 25 games) while dealing with injuries sustained from the infamous BU campus shotgun rampage of one Mr. Nathan Gerbe.

There is no comparison between VanDerGulik (I'd use VDG, but I don't want to branded with the dreaded fanboy tag) and Gill. VanDerGulik did many more things than Gill, and did them better. He had a physical aspect to his game that was absent with Gill, to name one. He missed the first half of his senior season and the team floundered. Upon his return, the team soared until a disastrous night in the Big Woo.

Depth at forward is going to be an issue, unless Quinn brings in a late recruit or two. Perhaps from Europe?
Is Pertti Hasanen still on staff?

Oksanen was a late pickup last year, and he is a talent (needed work on his skating and physical play, but moved the puck out of the zone as well as any freshman D in recent team history).
A forward like him at this late juncture would make me feel a lot better.

Good thing they got Roberto, too.

Yes, especially since O'Regan is likely to make the US Jr. National Team.
Pertti is still Director of Hockey Operations. FWIW, Greeley was in Europe earlier this month.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Do you all have an on-sale date for single game tickets yet? I'm coming from out of state in October, but the athletics website isn't very helpful in terms of saying when those tickets will be available.

Thanks!

BU Ticket office is poor about communicating this type of stuff.

Keep checking back and it is doubtful any of the games will be sold out.

Let's hope Greeley brings back a present for Quinn.

I still want to know about any pending hot dog changes. Can we get Kayem the contract? Somebody put a call into the hockey office...

Well that should liven things up a bit here...

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Since I've never done it before, is the Terrier TV yearly subscription the thing all of you (and me now) displaced fans use to watch the home games streaming on the internet? And have they improved the quality of the stream at all?

and one of the reasons i know that tweet is complete, utter garbage is that bob hohler of the globe has had no problem over the years writing negative stories about BC athletics. york threatening kids, saying they would be in trouble too if they talked? ya, that's believable! YAWN.
