Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

on top of all that, he has been at bu forever and would have thought (in his mind it would have been deserved to think so) that he paid his dues and was certainly in line for the promotion. since he didn't get it nobody should hold it against him if he wants to move on.

Hold it against him? Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of the fanbase threw him a farewell party.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

How about an AHL path following what Quinn did

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

with Bavis moving on it would be pretty obvious the next person coming would have to be a person with a tremendous amount of recruiting knowledge.. even with a long line of ex players who would like to have that position none of them have that experience..I think if you follow that logic that would certainly lead to only a few candidate of ex terriers

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

What has Mike Bavis done, or failed to do, to justify that kind of remark?

I don't think he's necessarily been bad, but at the same time, it's hard to overlook that the performance of the team during his four seasons as associate are remarkably worse than the five seasons Quinn was in the same position. How much of that he's responsible for, I don't know. You can also make the case that while we've still been able to pull in a bunch of top flight recruits, our secondary recruits have been very subpar under Bavis, many of whom panned out to little more than barely fourth-liners who got playing time due to roster issues and/or injury. Again, how much is Bavis' fault, I don't know, but the results are the results.

While TBA's post was unnecessarily harsh, I agree with brassbonanza's assessment. If Bavis & Powers stay, I will respect Quinn's judgement there, but I prefer to see some new blood. That position, unlike HC, doesn't need to be a BU guy in my opinion. Hire the best guy available. I'm sure there are assistants of up-and-coming teams, but that don't have the profile of BU, who would jump at the chance to come here.

So, the Avs' season is over, I guess we will be seeing Quinn moving in to Comm. Ave. soon.

Powers will stay for 1 yr...bavis is doubtful to return

Does Parker keep an office? If so, would it be at Agganis- or somewhere else? Will he have any involvement with the current team, recruiting, etc.? Is he likely to attend some/most/none of the games? Where does he sit? Will he complain about the concessions?

I think non-hockey staff persons are prohibited from official recruiting activity; not certain, though.

Two quality tidbits:

This from an interview with Jim Montgomery. (Bitter much? I love it.)

CHN: Everyone remembers the 1993 national championship (Maine went 42-1-2 and the NCAA chose to allow Maine to keep its championship, after a review of a number of issues), but of course there was that one game that you guys lost to BU. How much do you think about that game compared to the high of just winning the championship in general?

Montgomery: All the time. We were up 6-2, pounding them, they weren't even in the game. The problem was, we wanted to win 12-2. It was a lesson that was very valuable for us to learn. And they scored three goals off shinpads and skates. Personally, it haunts us. But every season, all that matters is if you win that last game.

And this: http://tvasports.ca/videos/video-drakkar-armada-bagarre-generale#.UXieIheoGHU.twitter

 Cisse!! We aren't on Comm Ave anymore.

"A number of issues". That's quite a mild term for what was going on up there..

Maybe Sacco can be Quinn's assistant. :D:D:D

In all seriousness, it's amazing how quickly things change. After his first season, Sacco was a finalist for the Jack Adams trophy as top coach. Now he is done. Was he never really that good?

Do coaches make a great difference in hockey (NHL, that is). Did Scotty Bowman win so many Stanley Cups because he was a better coach than everyone else? Or, did he just have better players?
