BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

do you really think the gap is greater now than it was say the five years before York vs what BU was doing at that same time? just my opinion but I don't think so

I noted from BU being on the " bottom " position . Agree it was just as lopsided going the other way in the mid 90 s

It was way more lopsided in that era. Say what you will about this current era, but at least BU still has 2009. No even close equivalent for BC while BU was handing them their lunch in the early and mid-90s. The 1994 Beanpot was about as good as it got for BC back then. I shudder to remember.

I dont put it on Quinn at this point. Eichel is at a very elite level he could not come for other reasons but the fact that the program is in a losing mode certainly would play against BU when decisions are made. My only two points are that I dont remember the program being this low and I have a feeling that Eichel will not matriculate to BU, crappy program or not. Did I mention firing anybody?

My fire everyone comment was reacting to the blog trolls, morons, and BC fans. Didn't mean to pin that on you.

yup.

i can still recall some bu fan holding up a sign in wba during that period that read "what rivalry?!? 19-0-1" or some sort on the run that we had against y'all...

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

My fire everyone comment was reacting to the blog trolls,

The Freep blog has become unreadable during games because of the number of trolls. It's a shame because their coverage is good during the games and the commentary is a nice supplement while watching, but wading through the utter garbage comments from endless "Guest" people is too much.

too bad they can't suppress all 'guest' comments. make you have a name - then be able to ignore morons.

Agree 1000%. Can't comment unless one signs in using a valid social media profile.

The comments have regressed into unreadable drivel. It appears much of the trolling is from the same source(s).

This is purely speculation, but I think I encountered someone who MIGHT be a/the troll at last night's game. Sat near someone who was an extremely, obnoxiously negative, critical BU "fan" constantly yelling at Quinn and the team. This person could not stop yelling "SHOOT!!!" EVERY TIME BU had the puck and I frequently overheard him blasting Quinn. At the end of the game, he stood up and went on a tirade directed at Quinn, yelling often he should be fired along with other expletives towards him.

If this is the troll, it's quite embarrassing b/c he's a middle aged person whom I believe is a premium season ticket holder (and IIRC a rather significant donor), is at every game as well as at off-ice events with his adult child (whom I believe is either a current BU student or recently graduated). I've been at events where he's been present and there have been a couple of times where his words and actions have been rather, um, something I wouldn't say nor do as a loyal fan of the program.

Again, this is merely speculation on my end. However, there were enough commonalities between the ridiculous posts on TBHB and what I overheard at last night's game that makes me curiously suspicious...

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Anybody have an idea what happened to the team that was playing so well at the end of last season? Sure Nieto, Gill, and Escobedo are gone but the bulk of the roster is there, no? How can someone help me understand the goal drop off for Rodrigues and O'Regan? I don't blame Quinn but I was hoping for more of an "instant" turn around like PC and UML had. For whatever reason they look awfully bad this year. The comeback against PC, Wisconsin, and NoDak games lead me to believe that this team has the talent and ability to compete, but then things like Bentley and Harvard happen. I just don't know what to make of it. And yes the beer and tickets are too expensive.

I've always assumed that Guest is not a BU fan at all, just someone from a rival school looking to be a pain the rear (with apparently nothing better to do on a weekend night). As I pointed out once, his/her posts seem to disappear once BU is winning a game. If he /she really is a BU fan, then they have a very strange way of showing it.

I'm not worried about O'Regan. His numbers will be there. Rodrigues I can't be as sure. In my mind, O'Regan is a future 100 point scorer that hit a rough patch. He clearly has enough talent to continue to be an offensive leader on this team. I look at his lower production as more of an effect of the poor results than a cause. Hopefully, if the points start picking up as I think they will, the team results will improve as well.

I also forgot Wade Megan...maybe there is just not enough depth at forward after all? Dunno. They looked great at times though. Jerry York was well below 0.500 his first three seasons and then took the Eagles to the FF in his fourth. I'd like to see that!

Your assumption may hold true as well, given that the troll(s) seem to lack basic grammar as well as BU hockey knowledge beyond what's reported.

FWIW I completely agree that the person I'm referring to, based on my observations over the years (with what I saw and heard last night being the latest example), has an interesting way of showing his fandom. There was an event during the offseason that I attended and saw said person there where during the Q&A session, he asked a rather inappropriate question to Quinn that basically was a jab at Parker - with Coach Parker sitting right by...

Just not someone whom I feel is a good representative of the BU fan base, no matter how unhappy we are with the current team right now.

With the talent coming in next year at forward, there are at least 2-3 forwards playing regularly right now, out of need, that will likely see less ice time next year. The talent and depth arriving on D is 2 years away and next year's D corps will still have similar issues with talent and depth.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

bu lost 54 (via graduation or exodus) of 120 goals scored last year.
to date the freshman have 21--

the scary item is the boys are 0-6-0 in away games. yuck!

From following the blog quite closely the first half of this season, out of necessity, I believe the Guests on there are more than one person. Unless the person is talking to them self over and over, they talk back and forth at each other, constantly ragging on the players, coaches, and everything BU. The comments are not at all productive, often out of line, personal, and clearly intended to insight anger. I really do wish, and suggested frequently to them, that the Freep people would implement a measure to filter some of the nonsense, but nothing happened. The Freep people do a great job during the game, and I enjoyed having their blog open on half of my screen next to the video as a quality supplement, but the excessive trolling made it impossible to get any type of useful commentary from it. I'm happy to not have to rely on that anymore.

Who knows if the blog trolls are BU fans, BC fans having fun, or just random people, but either way they're awful. Whoever that fan is you mentioned, you have to wonder how much of a "fan" he is.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

So Kurker and Collier were back in the lineup last night against Harvard. So I guess that puts an end to their rumors, until they don't.

Now that BU finally has a power play, how come nothing else is working?

The bottom line is that the forward line is neither deep enough or good enough.
Rodriguez has taken a huge step back, production-wise. He gets loads of ice-time, including on the power play. But his personal production is way down after a big step forward a year ago.

Hockey East announced a crowd of 31,000+ for Frozen Fenway last night. Or was Joe Bertagna giving the number empty seats?
The bleachers were empty and it looked about half the announced crowd was actually there on TV.
Also looked like the "crowd" for PC - Merrimack were the people standing around the rink.

Any guesses for the attendance at this coming weekend's Frozen Fenway doubleheader - both real numbers and what will be announced?

Announced? Guesstimating 25K.
Real? May barely fill Agganis.

Also, I think Lowell might actually have the biggest turnout that day.

I also reached out to the Freep writers and made same suggestion to require sign-in for comments, but no reply from them. Makes it a little tougher to follow the team as closely from afar when a primary source of information becomes too much of a pain to read.

I believe there is at least one troll that trolls during the game. I noticed that during one road game I didn't attend earlier this season. I don't believe the person I mentioned is on his phone much during the game and from what I saw, appeared to be watching the game for the most part. Whether he knows what he's watching - re: yelling "SHOOT!" whenever BU has the puck - is another story.

I used to follow the blog for all away games and it was pretty good. The problem started last year and has been so bad this year I don't even bother to open the blog. If I were the bloggers I would refuse to continue to do the games until they find a way to block those people (that person). It is really just sad that the person has nothing better to do on a weekend night than go on the blog of another team and pretend to be a fan and just make poorly framed insults and personal attacks at players on the team and the coaches.
