Usually it's reserved for late 80s /early 90s nostalgia, Rick Pitino, Mike Jarvis fighting the (now dead, I think) punk Northeastern coach, Drederick Irving and Jeff Timberlake and Steven Key, me at the 88 NCAA regionals against Duke in the new Dean Dome, how much swag you won at the Nerf hoop shoot they had set up in the Union. And so on.

That may be the only bball talk allowed, tho'. :D

Kurker played on basically a public school hockey team (Catholic Conf) he needed two years of juniors to even have a chance, he leveraged Parker into taking him early. Reading has produced some excellent HE talent with the two Whitneys, the two Shaughnessy's, Chris Dyment, Sean Collins, Steve Saviano, Paul Sacco , Mike Sullivan, Mike Golden unfortunately Kurker wont be one of them.

Westie not sure why you say football program is "well on their way" to recovery. New Coach looks better but they just finished a mediocre 7-5 regular season which would have been 4-8 at best without one special player.Losing their 4 year starting QB, AA halfback their best defensive player in KPL and best receiver in Swigert, If this guy can get better players maybe they can turn it around but looking at a drop off again after this year which wasnt really much except for Williams.

Swigert redshirted and will be back. Amidon is done however. BC may be able to get the transfer out of Florida to replace Rettig. Daz isn't perfect but is light years ahead of that goofy ******* Spaz. Well in their way to recovery is more than an appropriate description just by having a coach with a pulse and already what is about a top 35 recruiting class. Next year will have challenges but they won't roll over like spaz teams did.

carmine, exactly. in fact, next year could very well be a step back in the w column but the recruiting job he has been able to in such a short period of time is what really matters. sure, look at 7-5 in a vacuum and call it mediocre. then, open your eyes and realize they were two and freakin 10 last year. and the turnaround wasn't even with his own guys.

Curious if Terriers here are looking forward to 2014 Frozen Fenway, or not?
Talking with other season ticket holders from the section that I sit, it is about a 50/50 split. Some people can't wait; others can't be bothered. And it has nothing to with how well, or not, the team is playing.

To many people, myself included, outdoor games have lost their novelty and jumped the shark.

I went the last time, had what were considered great seats - first row of the Shawmut Pavillion. My take basically is been there, done that, glad I went to the first one, no interested in doing it again.

It will be interesting to see what both weekends draw.

I get the feeling it will be a younger crowd. Maybe that isn't such a bad thing.

My feelings are split. It's exciting for sure. It will garner more attention from the mainstream Boston media, etc. It will bring in the "novice" hockey fans. The casual fans will make up for any loss in attendance from the regulars. The hockey is better on the ice indoors, but it will be fun and I will be there covering.

You are right. It has lost its luster and is really not that special anymore. It seems like everyone and their brother are playing in this time.

BU-BC in 2010 was unique, never having been done. On the heels of the NHL Winter Classic. BU-BC rivalry. Of course, being biased as a BU fan, I wish it had ended then.

The only thing good about it is the "special-ness" (is that a word?) of having it held in historic Fenway. Everything else is a negative.

I and most of the season tickets holders I know are sitting this out.

I'm kind of mixed on it. I did get tickets and I'm sure it will be a fun evening out. I also agree that it seems as if the novelty has mostly worn off. I'm glad that Jackie declined to participate two years ago. Once every 4 years for something like this seems about right.

I will be very interested to see how well they draw. It will be hard to gauge from a visual with the double headers as I'm sure that most people will stay for only the game their team is in, which will make it seem at best half full for each game.

With all that said, I'm sure the players love the idea and assuming these games continue we should keep taking part once every 4 years so that any potential recruits will know they should get a chance to play at Fenway.

I think it can help recruiting in one aspect. The program , if they play every 4 years, can offer playing at MSG, Fenway Park, the TD garden annually, during a recruits time at the school. That is not going to influence a blue chip NHL recruit to be sure, but we need talent infused into this program and anything helps.

The fact they chose ND-BC as the main event this time around shows how far BU has fallen in a short time. I realize no one has stated that is the main game, but I think everyone realizes ND was brought in to fill the stadium (and I assume this will be on NBC cable?)
