Re: BU 2013-14 (Part II): Crash before the Phoenix

Watching on TV, it appears that BU at least played hard.
Based on what we have seen since North Dakota, that is at least a positive sign.

However, playing hard should be expected. Not just a good sign.
There should be no moral victories here.

Chiefs win by a td tonight? Or just a fg?

I'd say 4-3 score tonight

Your Terriers played us tough last night and disappointed in the BC defense last night. But give credit to Quinn and BU.

See you guys in the Beanpot

I don't know if I'd say moral victory, but I would say at least a small step forward. It looked at times last night as if we were trying to get back to playing BU Hockey…. strong forechecking and back checking, playing with a bit of an edge, keeping it a bit chippy, picking the opportunistic moments of offense… we were doing this well at the start of the game and got away from it in the 2nd period where we were also overwhelmed by BC's deep talent… I'm sure they picked it up a bit in the second too… then found our way back to doing that a bit in the third.

If we had been doing that the past 6 weeks, I'm sure we would not be 0-6-1 in our last 7 games.

I forget who it was earlier in the thread that mentioned that pre red hot hockey we were doing about what I expected: beat the teams we should beat, lose to the more talented and more experienced teams (but for the most part competing in those games) and maybe grab a game or two against a team that we "shouldn't" beat. Somehow that went away in the past 6 weeks. I'm hoping we can get back to that mode for the rest of the season, although looking at our schedule, it certainly looks tough from here on out.

Still feels like you're assuming to much. I'd be surprised if we make the cut for the Beanpot. :p

Tough to watch this. I've seen teams have bad years but they usually have enough bodies to play a full game. If it was 17 skaters tonight, are we now down to maybe 15 next game? ( ahti, Kelley)

Re: BU 2013-14 (Part II): Crash before the Phoenix

Stunned they didn't give Tommy Kelley a game disqualification for that spear! It was only a Spear and Misconduct

Re: BU 2013-14 (Part II): Crash before the Phoenix

It took 17 minutes to register a shot on goal.
Maguire single-handidly keeps BU in the game, again.
Oksanen now also injured.
Not enough real players. Not enough players, period.

A little prediction about Lowell - Colorado College is going to fire Scott Owens at the end of the season, and will make a serious run at Norm Bazin, who previously coached there. Does he prefer to live and work around Lowell, or Colorado? That'd be the question.
If Bazin goes, Lowell will slip back considerably.

Bazin played at Lowell so he might be comfortable there. The real issue right now is how has BU become so bad so quickly...

For those paying attention the answer is simple. This was at best a .500 team to start the season. What's left after injuries is a depleted lineup with 4 or 5 kids who are playing regular shifts that probably are a year away from doing so. Simply not enough across the board talent to stay competitive for an entire game

Good question!

DQ stood in the club room and told donors that this was not a rebuilding situation. Pieces were in place and the pipeline was full.

Oh well. We're in pretty good position for the draft lottery.

I just follow from a distance but from a 21-16-2 mark to this is embarrassing. Did Parker and the assistants just stop recruiting all last year?

I believe the word is a 'confluence' of events. The problems last year. A few early departures and injuries to key players. And in my opinion a few newcomers that aren't ready to play as much as they've been forced to. Add it all up they've got a 25 man roster now down to 19 or 20 healthy players including the 3 goalies.

There is about a 0% chance that Bazin leaves Lowell.
