BU 2013-14 (Part II): Crash before the Phoenix

I may be in the minority, but I still think BU has a good chance to be a frozen four team in the next few years. (Even next year) However, #2 has become such a train wreck defensively that I don't think we can be a championship caliber team with him skating a regular shift in the next few years.

I don't know about next year, but otherwise I agree. #2 will be fine in a deeper system.

So 4pm on Monday. It's like another Beanpot Consolation game.

Updates on attendance predictions? I am going to try to make it but don't know if I can. It's a work day for me.

With your later addition of Roberto, your assessment of returnees to be counted on are spot on, but besides another large freshman class, I don't anticipate a "major roster change"--at least not one involving multiple deletions. At forward, six returnees--Hohmann, Rodrigues, O’Regan, Lane, Baillargeon, Roberto--plus three freshman--Eichel, Phelps and Greer (who is accelerating)--should comprise the top nine. Another freshman forward is likely as well. Of the other six, Duane, Collier, Moran, Kelley, Lawrence and Ryan (better suited at forward and there's a logjam on D), the first three could form an effective fourth line. Even with a fourth freshman, that's 16 forwards and especially after this season Quinn isn't going with fewer than that. So, we should expect a talent upgrade with the three (or four) highly-regarded freshman arriving, while both departing seniors never played above the fourth line.

Piccinich now definite for 2014. Four incoming fwds are all proven scorers, thus far, with size. See "Looking ahead" in this post.

Sr. Hohmann, Rodrigues
Jr. O'Regan, Lane, Moran
So. Baillargeon, Roberto, Duane, Collier, Kelley, Lawrence, Ryan
Fr. Eichel (RC), Piccinich (RW), Phelps (LW), Greer (LW)

WAG on how the 18 are spread out.

FWD (10.)
Sr. Hohmann (1), Rodrigues (.5)
Jr. O'Regan (1), Lane (1), Moran (0)
So. Baillargeon (1), Roberto (1), Duane (0), Collier (1), Kelley (0), Lawrence (0), Ryan (0)
Fr. Eichel (1), Piccinich (1), Phelps (1), Greer (.5)

Goalies (2.5):
SR: --------
JR: O'Connor (1), Maguire (.5)
FR: Starret (1)

Def (5.5)
SR. -----
JR. Carrabino (0), Grzelyk (1), Oksanen (.5)
SO. MacAfee (1), Somerby (1)
FR. MacLeod (1), Hickey (.5), Diffley (.5), Abramson (0)

----isn't Letonov coming in the fall? heisenburg has 15, thb has 14.

16 forwards? There has to be one or two cuts and/or scholarship revocations before next season, right? Perhaps one on D as well, carrying 7 healthy scratches per game is a bit much.

if you have a bunch of guys on the team happy to pay their own tuition, more the merrier :D

issue comes when you have guys who are eating schollie dough and not dressing.

This is more what I was getting at, but did a bad job of explaining. I suppose if there are some who are content to be on the practice squad then great. But guys like Collier taking a full scholarship? That's can't be the most productive use of that full ride.

As I prefaced first, that was my WildAssGuess

I thought that as he was an early commit on the Heisenberg website. We all remember smolinsky getting a full ride :)

Even without Eichel this is one of the best recent recruiting classes.

This year's senior class was almost as good of an incoming class. It's about keeping them in school as opposed to talent. BC is good this year because the super line all stayed with the program

There is some truth in that. A lot of our depth issues this year are due to various departures for one reason or another.

Why is seven healthy scratches a problem? More competition. PC and NU both have 28 on the roster.

Preferred for me. Happy depth works well.
Though as we've seen recently the kids may not like it.

Interesting that we look to be losing only 2 sr skaters after next season- how many recruits are in the pipe to replace them (and prolly eichel, Grzelyk & ??)

I'm going to guess lowish: 3500 or so.

But maybe more people have the day off than I'm figuring on.

I believe official at Logan was 4.5". Of course, if you look at the South Shore, some areas got more than a foot.

In hindsight, there was no need to cancel the game. We got maybe 2.5 inches up here. UNH would have had no issue getting home.
