BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Anyway, defkit, I just find it odd because it's gonna be the season opener. If Millan struggles in that one, he'd be fair game to be replaced by Rollheiser IMO.

I agree that it would be a bold move to give Rollie the start. But I think the difference in how they looked at the exhibition game, combined with the frustration over the lack of overall success for the past two years is at least cause to give it some thought.

Also, I should add that at most, I am thinking of a rotation, not benching Millan.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I would give Rollie a start to light a fire under Milan's butt.

Would starting Rollie geet into Millan's head and possibly send him into a tailspin? I think it's a tough call.

My stance is I have no idea what Parker should do with our goalies for Saturday, because I don't personally know our goalies, I have seen times with previous athletes where either of the above resulted and I don't know which it would be with Kieran.

Now do I have faith that those who should know his psyche will make the right call, that's a story for another day.

I will say that if I was coaching whoever starts this weekend would not start next weekend, regardless of the result against UNH.

Watched the game on CBSSPORTS.COM

Where were Bernie & Tom?

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

FWIW, Parker told us last Tuesday that Rollheiser will indeed get some ice time. It won't be a straight platoon, but it sounded like he will get in there sooner or later...I imagine it would take things going the same way they went vs. SFX for Millan to be benched on a more regular basis.

Parker, IIRC, has said this the past two years as well.

True, but Parker has given him some playing time in the past two years. Rollheiser has also had a few injuries behind the scenes over the last few years that have prevented him from playing as much as the team may have planned in the preseason. Plus, once Millan got in a groove last season, it was impossible for Parker or any of the coaches to think that anybody would give them a better chance in net than Millan. Rollheiser gave up 16 goals in 5 games last season. I wouldn't have played him much either.

Parker did make it more clear this year that Millan is 1 and Rollheiser is 2. Last year he said something like 1 and 1A. More complete information about that will be in the season preview article that will be published Thursday.

Parker said before last season that Millan was the clear No. 1. Their freshman and sophomore seasons, he said he expected a rotation, but last year it was definitely 1 and 2 more than 1 and 1A.

As far as who's starting Saturday, Parker made it sound like it would be Millan, saying, "He'll be ready to go against UNH."

Yeah, him saying Rollie will see ice time is nothing new, especially in the first half. Didn't he split up most weekends in the first half last year? I wouldn't be shocked for the first six games to look like this...
UNH- Millan
@PC- Rollie
Denver-Millan
Holy Cross- Millan(only one game that weekend means Millan gets it)
@UMASS- Millan
UMASS- Rollie -Gotta give Millan an early jump on what he is going to where out for Halloween

This is me purely guessing based on what Parker typically does in the first half of the season to keep Millan fresh for the second half

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I forgot to mention on Sunday... It was nice how they raised the parking to $12

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

In your opinion, who should start against UNH?

I'd start Rollie. Not because I think he's a better goalie, but because Millan and the rest of the team looked disinterested last Saturday, and that's a fatal flaw (and one that affects BU hockey teams more often than I care to admit) for this team. Somebody needs to tell me when they earned the right to take games off. Sit Millan down and you send the message that effort gets you ice time as much as talent. At the start of the year, and not when you're tied for 8th place going into the final weekend, is when you do that.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Milan's "force field" has not been established yet....

(no "???" comments - it's also a reference to the movie "Stripes")

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

To me, this speaks to the motivation issue that has been hashed out so many times on here. Is this the best way to motivate you team to start off a new season? I'll admit that I haven't seen the whole press conference/transcript, I just don't think this approach works, or hasn't for the last several years.

Now if only we could leak a story that Rollie and Kraus were drinking beer in the locker room during games, we might get a fresh voice behind the BU bench. :)

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

And I'm shocked there hasn't been any mention of Notre Dame to HE in 2012. The #1 team in the Nation none-the-less. Thoughts? Comments? (For the record, I think it's supid. But I hate all the crap realignment going on in college sports. I can't wait until UCLA is in the Big East.)

UCLA? You kidding, us Big East people would love that, considering our current targets seem to be Directional Carolina, Directional Florida #2, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Temple. Pardon me while I puke.

And ND is/was being discussed rather extensively in the HE thread, mainly about phantom TV contracts.

As a long time ND fan the move is a bit unsettling for me. I had trouble rooting for BU the last ND-BU game, I was hoping there wouldn't be another one for a long time. But where else is an athletic department like ND going to put its hockey team? This move makes more sense than any of the other options and even though it may not help some individual teams in HE it will help the conference as a whole.

Were you not aware we're playing them on December 31st?

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Not thrilled about the ND to HE news. Really takes away some of the New England feel for the league. But I'm not too worked up. Change happens.

Thoughts on how it impacts BU's ability to make the NCAA's in the future? Is the Pairwise benefit of the inclusion of a presumably better team than the lower half of HE worth making it harder to win the Auto Bid through the HE Championship?

Sorry, that was poorly phrased on my part.

Difference is I can mainly ignore that that's happening...
Usually those holiday games get at most radio coverage, right? With ND in the conference they'll be @ Agganis for two games every other year, hard to run away from that. Or at least I'm assuming that's how it'll work.

It's pretty rare that the team that gets the auto-bid doesn't already have an at large space anyway so I'd guess the pairwise benefit fair outweighs the added difficulty of getting the auto bid.
