Brown @ RPI (ECAC quarterfinals, Friday, 3/15/13)

I think playoff rights belong to ECAC and they made the deal with AmericaOne. I just hope some of that $10 is making its way to rpitv.

Can anyone explain the business side of these hockey broadcasts? RPITV does most games for free and does a great job. Do they then sell the rights to America One when there is demand? RPITV still does the basic technical work, it seems, but then America One takes the feed and F's it up and charges us $10?

The ECAC has a contract with A1 to do the playoff games. Since the game is an league playoff game, the school as an individual entity can't really do anything.

Sounds like our forecheck and cycling has been effectively neutralized

Only 1 against Brown at the end of the 1st.

Nothing off of it.

RPI TV (or RPI I believe for playoff games) does not make any money from the purchase of games on b2/a1. It is a contract that ECAC has with b2/a1, and the ECAC retains exclusive distribution rights, regardless of any arrangements that the schools have.

The reason that RPI TV has been able to offer games free this season is a few fold: access to a decent amount of free bandwidth, a few years of political pressure on athletics, and technical competence that would cost a lot of money in the real world.
