Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Thanks. I was about to post the same story. Max should fit very well into the systems Brown will be playing. He and Tyler Bird have great upside, but the other incoming forwards (C. Corcoran, B. Russell and T. Lappin) are also expected to contribute in different ways.

Stop talking up the freshman class, you're getting my hopes WAY up for this season! :p

They really do sound like a great bunch. Scoring depth is something we've sorely lacked over the last few years, and Bird, Willman & co. should help alleviate some of the pressure for Lorito, Lappin, and Naclerio. Tyler Steel will presumably only continue to improve and become more consistent, and Pfeil is set to grow into one of the league's best two-way defensemen. It's hard NOT to be optimistic.

My guarded optimism is not mainly based on the entering class. Unless one is Johnny Gaudreau, it takes time for freshmen to adjust to the college game. Freshmen should not be expected to carry the team.

However, Brown has a strong nucleus of upperclassmen, including Matt Lorito, Mark Naclerio, Nick Lappin and Brandon Pfeil. I also believe that Zack Pryzbek, though he's not a natural scorer, has the potential to become a very good college player due to his strength and skating ability. If Tyler Steel continues to improve and Tyler Wood begins to develop into the kind of player the coaching staff envisioned when they recruited him, the Bears should be ok.

Agreed. This team could win 20 games, if everything goes right. Last year's team was VASTLY better than its record indicated.

Should probably clarify that 20 wins would likely include playoffs, before someone jumps down my throat for predicting a 20-6-3 regular season record! :)

@MarkDivver:

Great news for @BrownMensHockey as Sam Lafferty will enroll this fall, instead of playing for @TriCityStorm of USHL. Pitt.'s 4th round pick.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

We can now roll out a top six of players who participated in NHL player development camps this summer, and have another in the bottom six. Cool!

Scoring depth could vault this team into the next level. We don't need the highly-touted freshmen to score 30 points each. If they can each chip in 15-20, Lorito/Lappin/Naclerio chip in their expected 30+, and guys like Kramer and Pryzbek get 10-15, we could be an NCAA Tournament team.

Anyone know how the Mayor's Cup is going to work this year? We have a home-and-home with PC. Since they hosted last year, logic would suggest that the game at Meehan counts for the Cup, with the game at Schneider serving as a regular non-conference game. However, I haven't seen any clarification of this anywhere (Whittet "officially" released the schedule today, though we've known it for quite some time on here).

Are we doing a soccer-style aggregate goals thing? That could be...interesting. :)

Any idea of which games might be nationally televised? It was nice watching the Brown Denver game in HD last year.

What happened with the Harvard home game? It was originally scheduled for the first weekend of the season, but it's been moved to where it should have been all along (the day after travel partner Dartmouth comes to town). Has the league finally stopped allowing them a lighter February load, seeing as how they never do anything in the Beanpot anyway? :D
