Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

One of our player's parents is saying on Twitter that Rossi is tranferring to SCSU.
Anybody know anything on this?

There was a post on HFBoards several days ago referencing the same thing, well before Widman's commitment was announced, so maybe there is some truth to this.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Widman is a difference-maker, if he can get back to his pre-injury form. He most likely would have become our best defenseman by now had circumstances been different. Best wishes for him.

We didn't see enough of Widman (two solid but unspectacular pre-season games and a couple of shifts in a regular season game before he was injured) to assess with any degree of certainty what kind of impact he would have made though he had the potential to become a reliable defensive defenseman. Widman is not, however, as complete a player as Brandon Pfeil, who is poised to become Brown's number one defenseman next season.

Like kdiff77 I wish Nate Widman the best. I worked closely with Nate during his freshman year and got to know him pretty well. I was impressed with his attitude and his character both as an athlete and as a student. Excellent pick by St. Cloud.

Suffering Stanley Cup withdrawal last night, I ended up listening to Wilkes-Barre Penguins v. St John's IceCats' AHL playoff game. WB started Harry Z and Bobby Farnham at F. Commentators had some nice comments on both.

BRENDAN WHITTET ANNOUNCES THE CLASS OF 2018

http://www.brownbears.com/sports/m-hockey/2014-15/releases/20140618f0pxtc

This is one of the most promising classes in recent Brown history. Several of these players are expected to contribute immediately. The offense should be greatly improved with the addition of Max Willman, Tyler Bird, Charlie Corcoran, Tim Lappin and Braeden Russell.

Very impressed with the resumes of these kids, but what really struck me was their collective size. Just ONE player is under 6'0". Combined with last year's class (also full of big guys), it would appear that Brendan wants to physically dominate teams. Maybe he's using the LA Kings as a blueprint.

The recruited D-men impress me. There were some big losses with graduation and the three incoming appear ready to jump right in. Pfeil may have a good partner in McArdle.

It's always a bit risky to play three freshman defensemen but these kids have acquired considerable junior experience, and the coaching staff believes they can contribute. There's a recent precedent: Dennis Robertson, Matt Wahl and Marc Antoine Carrier (after he recovered from an early season illness) played regularly as freshmen.

On a related note, this past season Bowdoin (my Alma Mater) started four freshman defensemen. I thought it was a bit crazy, especially since Bowdoin was a deep team that had won the NESCAC title in 2013 and played in the national tournament. But the youngsters were better than some of the veterans. By playoff time these freshmen had become experienced defensemen. Bowdoin won the NESCAC title and went on to the NC$$ tournament for the second consecutive year. The Polar Bears will have these four young but experienced defensemen for another three years. Hopefully, there'll be a similar Brown story to tell come March.

Euler: Are you posting from Providence or did you take a road trip to Brazil for the World Cup?

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

You folks might be the next ECAC sensation with those draft picks today! Things are looking good for Brown.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Wow!! 3 draft picks - Lafferty, Bird, Willman. Have we ever had 3 draft picks playing together?

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

And it could have been four if the Roy family hadn't made one of strangest decisions in my several decades of involvement in college hockey...

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

I'm convinced that Max will thrive at Brown both athletically and academically. I look forward to working with Max and getting to know the Willman family.

Are any of Brown's players going to a NHL team's prospect camp? Or is it too soon for such decisions to be made?

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

A record number for Brown, most likely.

Lorito and Wood to Jersey.

Lappin to Pitt.

Prysbek to Toronto.

Naclerio invited by Islanders but has back issue (not believe to be serious) and can't go.

Expect Lafferty, Willman, Bird to be invited by their new teams, too.
