Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

All UNH goals were the result of missed assignments by Brown D.

First goal - no one cleared Sorkin out, he was left to pick up rebound and step to side and lift into net.
Second goal - two UNH F's (Downing, Speelman) were left unattended to zip a pass across crease and tap in.
Third goal - A lot of traffic in front, but no one bothered to take Silengo and he fired the blocked shot of van Riemsdyk into net. Also the puck should have been cleared all the way down directly prior to that.
Fourth goal - no one picked up Goumas who had a clear access to a snap shot from right/middle slot.

Can't fault De Filippo.

GROAN.

Most of our success last year was built upon the premise of defensive focus and not missing an assignment to help out the goalie. What happened over the summer? Our strong defensive play has completely eroded.

Looks like Massimo Lamacchia has earned himself a spot in the lineup next time out.

Good to see him have a good game at UNH. I thought he had great potential at the start of last year's season, showing good hockey sense and skating. Then he seemed to disappear on the ice, leading to his DNPs at the end of the season.

Not a very good game by Brown against UNH. The injuries to regular players (Brandon Pfeil, Joey DeConsylis, Ryan Jacobson, Nick Lappin, Zach Pryzbek) definitely took their toll. With the makeshift lines, the team was out of sync. Too many defensive errors.

New Hampshire took advantage of their familiarity with the big ice surface. However, as compared with past teams, this UNH squad appeared pretty average. Definitely not a contender in Hockey East this year.

Sounds like their goalie is pretty good, though. Fans on the UNH thread seemed pretty impressed with him.

As we know, due to Sirs Borelli and Clemente, a good goalie can steal playoff series for you.

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

So, how are we feeling about this weekend's games? Is it a death march, or do we have a shot at getting a couple points from a suddenly surging Colgate and a completely revamped Cornell team?

I'm hoping Whittet used to bye week to work on the special teams units, both of which are completely atrocious. I'm also very encouraged by Marco's play of late. I wonder if we'll see him start both games this weekend, or if Steel will get a shot (I think I'd rather not see a freshman get lit up at Lynah and destroy his confidence, so I'm assuming we'd see him in Hamilton).

Hopefully, injury situation is a thing of the past. Cornell seems to be having its problems as Bruno is in the early going. Friday's game will be a big one for both. Colgate on the other hand seems to have turned it around. Brown will have problems unless its special teams play improves. Any of the Brown faithful going to the games? I am hoping to make it to Colgate.

According to projo's @MarkDivver:

Lappin, Pfeil and deConsilys return for Cornell on Friday. Jacobson still out.

Steel starts.

At least one positive from last night's game - Brown's play in the third period. It appeared to me that Brown finally got it together. True, no score, but Colgate played well.Keeping that team to 2 goals showed Brown's defense was playing well. Colgate is clearly Not the same team from last year. Any comments on the Cornell game?

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

What an ugly weekend. This team needs to get on the same page, and quick, because the season isn't getting any younger. I think it might be time to reunite the Lorito-Naclerio-Lappin line, because our offensive output has been nonexistent since they were broken up.

Gate was without their best player Tylor Spink and they were very flat. You guys easily could have won the game.

Interesting fact: DeFilippo has significantly better stats than Steel (GAA and save percentage), but his record is 1-4, versus Steel's 2-1-1 record. For some reason, when Steel starts our offense is much more proficient.

I certainly don't question your characterization of Colgate's play as you are a knowledgeable Colgate fan. Flat to you based on prior games but I thought your team's play was overall very good based on that game. If that performance was flat, and Colgate has played much better as you suggest, Colgate will certainly be a team to be reckoned with. You have some good young skaters

Anyone going to the Mayor's Cup Saturday? I can't imagine we'll knock off PC, but two free tickets came with the season tickets. They put me up in Section J.
