Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

Another 1,000 for the APR for Brown in men's ice hockey. Always great when that happens. Congrats to the team on their academic achievements. I think sometimes we always forget about the student in student-athlete!

For obvious reasons, I'm very pleased...

Unless one of them makes the roster for P Pens, there could be an interesting line pair with the WB Pens - Harry Z and Bobby Farnham.

Class of 2017 officially announced:

Euler, you have previously commented on Steel and Kramer. Comments on the others?

I like the number of big guys on this list, as outside of Garnet Hathaway, we didn't have much to physically intimidate teams this past year. Sure, Whittet tells the team to go out and bang bodies, but it has more impact when a guy like Zach Pryzbek, who is listed at 6'4" 205, in doing the hitting versus Mark Naclerio or Jeff Ryan.

I'm excited about this class. Whittet has done a great job getting some of the better players in Massachusetts to stay somewhat local and come to Brown (Harlow, Hourihan, Prescott, Tang and incoming freshmen Doane and Wood). That's terrific news, as it'll help grow the Brown brand in the area and lead to further tapping into the MA market, which is one of the best breeding grounds in the country for college hockey players.

And, of course, we appear to have a pair of quality young goaltenders, which is always exciting.

Miles Wood was selected in the 4th round of the NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. That means we have two defensemen who are 4th-rounders (Dennis Robertson, a selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs, is the other). Hopefully that will lead to great defensive play.

Miles Wood according to Heisenberg's list is committed to Brown for 2014. Tyler Wood, whom I believe is Miles' younger brother, is committed to Brown for the upcoming year. Their hockey bloodline is deep - father, a Yalie, played in the NHL for several years and their grandfather was Princeton's coach from 1959-1965

And according to USCHO, it's 2015. I've been so confused this offseason about who is coming when all over the country - I'm not even 100% certain I know who's coming this year to RPI. Thought RPI was bringing Drew Melanson this year, now it looks like it's next year. Had thought Yale was bringing John Hayden in 2014, now apparently it's this year.

Does anyone know why Cameron Romoff was left off the announcement of incoming freshmen?

Just clearing some of this post (and the one before it) up - Miles is the younger of the Wood brothers, and he is a forward set to come in 2014 (he's the one drafted by NJD). Tyler, the older brother, is a defenseman (though extremely offensive minded) who will play for Brown this season.

Cameron committed to Brown in 2010. As of February/March 2013, his two Junior teams list him as coming to Brown and College Hockey News roster for Brown for 2013-2014 lists Cameron. Deferral to 2014? Admissions issue? Decommit?

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

I was wondering why Brown had him listed as Tyler and the NHL had him listed as Miles. Thanks for the clarification, guys!

So we have a good recruit to look forward to in coming years, at least! Although, the last pair of brothers who were recruits, with the younger being drafted in the fourth round as well, didn't really pan out...

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

He didn't pan out as coaching staff hoped. He will be heading to a very good school at Middlebury, albeit not Ivy, and be able to play some pretty darn good Division III hockey. Believe it will work out for both sides.

Wow. I had him pegged as a potential blue-chip recruit for Brown, too. Odd.
