Brown Set to Launch on The Ivy League® Digital Network

Providence, R.I. – Brown University, in partnership with NeuLion, announced today the launch of its brand new channel on the first-ever Ivy League Digital Network. The Ivy League Digital Network will provide live and on-demand video content involving all eight conference schools, as well as league championship events.

Starting with the 2013-14 season, the Brown channel on the Ivy League Digital Network will offer a user experience unlike any other to give fans an entirely new way to interact with the Bears. The completely redesigned digital channel includes an easy-to-navigate interface with a League-wide network streaming schedule and new interactive touch points to showcase the expanded content offerings available on computer, mobile and tablet devices all without the use of an app.

Initially, all eight Ivy League schools will feature three-camera HD broadcasts for football and men’s and women’s basketball. Additionally, Brown will continue to offer live streaming for home events across multiple sports at a level equal to or better than what has been presented in the past.

“Brown Athletics will be at the forefront of video technology as we launch the Ivy League Digital Network,” said Jack Hayes, Brown’s Director of Athletics. “We will be introducing a high definition, multi-camera video streaming broadcast, as well as highlight packages and original video features, all offered on multiple digital platforms. This will allow Brown fans and alumni throughout the world to follow their favorite teams and student-athletes from one state-of-the-art viewing destination.”

For a limited time at www.ivyleaguedigitalnetwork.com fans can purchase a discounted yearly package to the Brown channel at a special introductory price of $71.95. The package includes everything the channel has to offer from live home and league away games in HD as well as on-demand programming and other premium content.

Beginning on August 21, a variety of subscription packages will be offered for inside access to Brown Athletics, including a 12-month pass for $89.95, a four-month pass for $34.95, a one-month pass for $10.95 or a single-day pass for $9.95.

In addition to the school-specific packages, fans can sign up for Ivy League-wide subscriptions that include live and on-demand content from a variety of sports across all eight schools and conference championship events, as well as additional premium content not available anywhere else.

A special introductory 12-month, League-wide pass is also available now at a discounted price of $95.95 until August 21. At launch, multiple League-wide packages will be available, including a 12-month pass for $119.95, a four-month pass for $49.95 and a one-month pass for $15.95.

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

Uh-oh. Details, anyone?
Don't know his reasons for leaving but Widman is at the Roughriders (USHL) camp....so I guess it's possible he could return to Brown next year?.....OR...... Scott Herbst ‏@herbst20 23h
Apparently former #Roughrider Nate Widman is in camp. Played 3 games for #Brown last year before being injured. My guess just rehabbing ....https://twitter.com/herbst20

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

@MarkDivver tweeted the other day that Widman will play this season in CR, where he was before Brown. Brendan Whittet said to be optimistic Widman will be back with Bears next season, but who knows.

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

I just confirmed it with an affiliate defenseman of Cedar Rapids. Widman will be returning this year to Cedar Rapids. Skated in drills this weekend but not in scrimmages.

Well, it could be worse. That he returned to his USHL club, rather than transferring elsewhere, shows he maintains some level of commitment to Whittet's program. I think he knows we have a stacked defensive corps this year, and will look to make an impact after Wahl and Robo (and, I suppose after last year, Goldberg) graduate.

It doesn't "show" anything, it just leaves the door open. Plenty of players who leave programs for the USHL end up on other teams - all it means right now is that he could return to Brown, unless he were to make a statement otherwise.

That's better than a confirmed transfer to Northeastern.

Re: Brown Hockey 2013-2014 - Climbing to the Top of the ECAC Ladder

Not a factor.

How do you know? This is the deepest Brown defense in years. Maybe he didn't think he could crack the lineup.

Unless you have insider information, my speculation is as good as yours.

Sorry but this is laughable. Before his injury, he was going to be a top 4 d-man on the team....and would be this year if he came back. Again, NOT a factor. As far as your depth on D statement is concerned, last year Coach Whittet had to put a forward back on D because of the injuries and lack of depth. BTW, he is a better D than he is a forward.......question is.....will he remain on D.

I agree with Red Cloud. He's not cutting his ties to Brown and I think he may be using USHL to rehab instead of Brown. If it works out, he will have 3 full years at Brown instead of losing his sophomore year.

Bingo.

When he went down last year, there was some talk about potential medical redshirt, but, at Brown, staying a fifth year means a combined MA/BA program (or Sc.M./Sc.B.), or a combined Sc.B./B.A., which I believe is what allowed Jeremy Russell to stay for five years. The timing of the injury meant he would have had to withdraw from school after almost an entire semester, and with a 12-month rehab for a knee, he may not be ready for this coming year. Thus, common sense, and believing he will stay at Brown, means he will sit this year and return in 2014-15 as a top four guy.

Incidentally, as great as Jake Goldberg played last year, the Bears are still fairly thin at defense. The play of Matt Wahl was as inconsistent as it had been throughout his career, and while Brandon Pfeil improved by leaps and bounds, I have a hard time discerning who #5 and #6 are this year, presuming Goldberg is the (gasp) #4. Joey D is a steady #5, and that leaves two freshmen to claim the final spot, along with Kyle Quick, who we certainly hope is ready to come back, and Greg Tang, who seemed undersized and overmatched in his opportunities last year.

So, yes, Widman, healthy, is a top 4, probably top 2. Widman, rehabbing, maybe rushes, suffers a setback, cracks the lineup but is inconsistent, and loses a year of eligibility.

Just some food for thought.

I am with Kdiff on this point. Brown lost one D-man to graduation and has everyone coming back. I think a top 4 of Robertson, Pfeil, Goldberg and Wahl is pretty good. While I might have missed something, I thought Wahl played well when I saw him play Add in Joey D and Kyle Quick if he returns to his high quality play and you have two more to factor in. Also the incoming frosh look promising. I have heard good things about Wood and Rossi from Finland may be a sleeper. I trust Brendan on this and I think he handled with this crop of players the Widman and Romanoff situations quite well

Widman was definitely projected as a top four defenseman. It's unfortunate that he isn't returning. He was always one of my favorite individuals on the team. I wish him the very, very best. It's likely that at least one freshman, and maybe two, will see considerable action from the outset. But let's keep in mind that Brown plays solid TEAM defense, which includes a defensive role for the forwards. In any case, I don't think defense will be a big problem for the Bears as there's enough depth. If we can find more balanced scoring, we'll be all right. Winning (or losing, for that matter) games 1-0 and 2-1 can be draining. That may have been Brown's Achilles heel this past season.
