Go Bears
As per the suggestion from a few other posters, starting a new thread for the upcoming season....

All things positive about Brown Bears hockey.

As another poster indicated.......No Whining allowed.

Was going to wait until things got rolling down the road, but the recent announcement of sophomore Alena Polenska being named Chech's National Team captain is worthy getting this started now.

Congratulations to Miss Polenska.

Re: Brown Bears 2010 - 2011 - Dawn of a new Era

Brown has a good new assistant this year in Meaghan Guckian.

Always enjoyed getting to watch her play at SLU. It appears as though she has applied her knowledge of the game well as her Goalies at RIT and Buffalo State saw improvement under her guidance.

She should be a real asset to Digit in both coaching and recruiting wise.

Schedule for October

Schedule for October

Brown's Schedule in October looks like this:

Sat Oct 16: Scrimmage with Yale and Princeton at Princeton
Sun Oct 17: Etobicoke at Home
Sun Oct 24: BC away
Fri Oct 29: Dartmouth away
Sat Oct 30: Harvard away

Re: Brown Bears 2010 - 2011 - Dawn of a new Era

Sounds like a pretty good early test! Rome wasn't built in a day, and so it's probably not realistic to expect a complete turnaround this season, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Brown right around .500 this season. I have knowledge of some their new recruits, and they're likely to contribute immediately.

Go Bruno!

All is still quiet. Already October by the end of this week, when things will get going. Daughter loves the place. She has already been gone for a month. Busy with school work and working out prepping for the season. The Brown football team smoked Harvard the other day. :)

Just got the details on the first outing, a set of scrimmages on October 16 at Princeton.

Brown plays Yale at 1:30 and Princeton at 3:00. These are not full games.

Go Brown Bears.

Was this thread not for "All things Positive" for Brown Womens Hockey ? Let's keep it that way.

The others you refer to already have their own thread. (Actually, if memory serves me correctly they already have two or three threads). So please don't entice them.

Re: Brown Bears 2010 - 2011 - Dawn of a new Era

Just realized, I'm around for Brown's opener against BC in a couple of weeks.

Always tough playing your first game with lots of new talent against a team with a few games under their belt.

It'll be interesting to hear how folks think these teams will match up in a couple of weeks. Just like Mattj, the wait must be killin' ya!

Really looking forward to the first game in BC. If you are there, we might get to meet.

It's amazing to me how some teams have already started playing, while Brown has not even had their first official practice yet.

Countdown to the Princeton trip is on. 10 days and counting.

Re: Brown Bears 2010 - 2011 - Dawn of a new Era

I really hope that Brown can step up their game this year and return to their status as a top team for D1.....Does anyone know much about their incoming freshmen? Will they help give the squad the boost they need?

Not sure how the current class compares to those in the past, but the comments I've been hearing are all positive. Hopefully they have the same impact as the rookie class of the Oilers (Eberle, Hall and Paajarvi).

Countdown is now on. Official practices starting up, and only a week away from Princeton scrimmages.

Got a question.
Posters have been leaving private comments (User CP). Thanks for those comments, they have all been supportive.
Question is this: Some leave their user name in the message, some don't. Is there a way to find out who is leaving the messages in the User-CP box.

Newbie...change Kane to Hall and your off to the races.

Edmonton will have an exciting team this year.

According to most you have to sign up (pay) and then you will have access to the names.

The Brown roster for the upcoming season is now posted.

http://www.brownbears.com/sports/w-hockey/2010-11/roster

The first action is less than two days away. Good luck to the team this weekend.

Puck drop for the first scrimmage is at 1:30pm on the 16th vs Yale at Princeton

Go Bruno

I am excited for this season in Brown hockey. Last year they made great strides toward being the team the set the pace in Women's Collegiate Hockey. I can't wait till they regain respect in the top half, and I look forward to the reestablishing of the home and away N/C games we've had since the dawn of our sport.

I'm excited for the new season of Brown hockey as well. I'm on record defending the program's rebuilding attempts that were started last year and took to task those that tried to undermine it from within. Now that the new season is upon us, it is imperative that all those involved with the program support it, coaches, parents and players alike. That is the only way to the get the best possible results out of the TEAM. Like any rebuilding program, success does not always come overnight, so some patience might be required. I'm confident there will be more success this year and that the future of Brown Bears Hockey is looking up. I call on the extended Brown family to support this team through thick and thin this year.

We will get our first preview tomorrow at Princeton. The real games start next week.

So to all the players and coaches, good luck for this season, and I'm behind the team the whole way.

Go Brown Bears.

First day is in the books

With a refreshing new look, the Brown Bears took to the ice today at the Hobey Baker rink in Princeton. The historical nostalgia in the lobby must have energized the latest Brown Bear editon to come up with a couple of great results, rekindling thoughts of past Brown glory.

The Bears had a great ride home, recording a 2-1 win over the Yale Bulldogs, followed by a 4-2 win over the host Princeton Tigers in two 40 minute scrimmage games.

The start was a bit shaky, with the Bears hemmed into their own zone by the bulldogs on the first shift. The Bears regained their composure and struck quickly with a couple of rookies doing all the work to record the first goal off the season on the second shift of the game, barely a minute into the game. The Bears would extend this lead to 2-0 early in the second. The Bulldogs got one late to make it close in the later stages of the game. In the end, the Bears where the ones who had the best scoring chance in the dying seconds of the game.

After a short rest, the Bears came out flying in their second game against the Tigers. They drove the net a couple of times, and before you knew it, it was 4-1 for the opportunistic Bears, barely 10 minutes into the game. The host Tigers switched goalers to turn the momentum. They worked hard in their attempt to overcome the early deficit, outchancing the Bears the rest of the way, but all they could muster for their efforts was one marker to make the final 4-2.

The Bears went home with each Goalie recording a win. Both tenders looked great.

While it is still early and only exhibition, this is sure a great confidence booster for this young but hard working Brown squad.

Way to go Bears.

First weekend is in the books

First weekend is in the books

After a long bus ride home from Princeton late Saturday, the Brown Bears came out flat in the first period in today's noon tilt versus Etobicoke. They were twice staring at a one goal deficit. The spunky Bears got better as the game went along, and dominated the third period, eventually winning 5-2. The goalie duties were split 50/50. The first line looked dominant in the third period, netting two markers and the rookie line scored a PP goal. The win culminates a great weekend for the Brown Bears hockey team and coaching staff.

Next weekend will bring the first real game and also the first real test, an away game against BC. Hope many will be there to support the team.

Here is today's game report from the Bears website:
