And even if you've never heard of Big Star, I'll almost gaurantee you've heard this song. This is 1972, folks.

A couple more from Big Star. If you've never heard #1 Record/Radio City, the cd that compiles their first two albums on one disk, go out and get it. It was in my player constantly for months after I first got it.

And as was said of the Velvet Underground, the same was often said of Big Star-their first record might not have sold much, but everyone who did buy it went out and started bands of their own. Big Star was a huge influence on a number of musicians in the 80's and early 90's, from REM and Teenage Fanclub, to the Posies and Matthew Sweet. The Replacements gave him the best tribute, writing a song titled simply, Alex Chilton.
