BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Graves was the younger brother of James Arness and his first big TV break was a series called "Fury," about a boy and a horse. Think "Flipper" only with road apples.

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

It's kinda sad...Peter Graves had an incredible acting career, but all he'll be remembered for are delivering puns while playing a child molester :p

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?

C'mon, he's also got, "Your mission, should you decide to accept it........." and "This tape will self-destruct in five seconds".

I'd like to think that's what he'll be most remembered for, but I have to admit, I thought of Airplane! when I saw the news.

As well as A&E Biography.

And, of course, "SST: Death Flight."

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

I'm dating myself but I first saw Graves in a western-The Yellow Tomahawk-that my dad took me to when I was just a kid. And of course I remember him in an early TV series called "Fury". He really did, however, have an impressive TV and Movie resume.

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Perhaps my favorite Graves is his cameo in the opening minutes of the remake of House on Haunted Hill.

A true rock legend, if he never had the fame that some achieved.

http://blog.allmusic.com/2010/3/18/a-tribute-to-alex-chilton/

He was 16 when he sang this.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-z8RCfnWPOo&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-z8RCfnWPOo&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And even if you've never heard of Big Star, I'll almost gaurantee you've heard this song. This is 1972, folks.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qx6XeBhZETg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qx6XeBhZETg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

A couple more from Big Star. If you've never heard #1 Record/Radio City, the cd that compiles their first two albums on one disk, go out and get it. It was in my player constantly for months after I first got it.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BNKSs1J38EA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BNKSs1J38EA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lyzJnHeA4lg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lyzJnHeA4lg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And as was said of the Velvet Underground, the same was often said of Big Star-their first record might not have sold much, but everyone who did buy it went out and started bands of their own. Big Star was a huge influence on a number of musicians in the 80's and early 90's, from REM and Teenage Fanclub, to the Posies and Matthew Sweet. The Replacements gave him the best tribute, writing a song titled simply, Alex Chilton.

Actor Fess Parker-for those too young to remember-Davy Crockett

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
The greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so's he knew ev'ry tree
Kilt him a bear when he was only three
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier!
