BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

That really sucks. He was a great man.

My lasting memory of Bol came during a game with the Rockets in Houston. He blocked a shot by essentially standing on his toes, with his hand coming up THROUGH the net from the bottom! And he got away with it. Coach Bill Fitch went out of his mind. RIP Manute.

Yeah, Bol was a true role model in athletics. He did so much for his homeland.

Evidently, Gary Coleman's living will stipulated that if he was in a coma, he should be kept alive for 15 days before determining if the plug needed to be pulled.

His (sort-of ex-)wife waited one day.

Later in the article, its noted that in Utah, a family member's wishes have more of a say than the living will. But even still: what a *********.
It isn't like the wife could just say shut him off if he had a chance. The guy had chronic severe kidney disease. My guess was he was toast and they gave her a choice.

Living wills are useless in most states. All it takes is one person to disagree with what it says and they back off because the dead/comatose person is less likely to sue than the family member who is stymied.

Saw Mnute Bol play when he was in college and had first come from Sudan. He looked like an undernourished string bean. He developed into a really great man. He will be missed.

So could you stipulate in your living will that if your wishes aren't followed you want to sue? :D

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

I can't believe the hospital didn't even check to see if she was considered his family for legal purposes.

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Agreed, Sudan could have avoided a whole lot of its current misery if it had a few more men of Manute's caliber around in charge of things.

That was exactly what I was thinking. It isn't as if Africa doesn't produce tremendously gifted, ethical people. It's that they don't reach positions of power that makes it such a perpetual ****box.

Of course, one could say something similar about us, and at least the Africans have the excuse that they didn't vote for most of their leaders.

"One could say. . ." And one would be guilty of criminal oversimplification in the first degree. :p
