Actress Susannah York.

British actress Susannah York, one of the leading stars of British and Hollywood films in the late 1960s and early 1970s, has died in London at the age of 72.

York died of cancer Saturday at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Belated talk about Dick Winters:

If you haven't read it yet, pick up Don Malarky's autobiography: "Easy Company Soldier" (there's more to the title but I forgot it). It's a great story on its own but Don devotes a good deal of it talking about Dick Winter.

It seems like Dick was a great human being and a remarkable soldier with a great head on his shoulders. A great guy to know and an even better one to call a friend. I wish I knew him.

Of any World War II vets I'd've liked to have met, Dick Winters is in the top 5 (along with Eisenhower, Rommel, Yamamoto, and Pappy Boyington.. for some reason)

Re: Bring Out Your Dead (Part Whatever v2.0)

He was played by Damian Lewis in the Band of Brothers miniseries. He was awesome, and deserves the medal of honor.

I have heard of Band of Brothers. However, I was under the impression that it had something to do with music. Was that on HBO or something?

Yeah. From what I hear, a pretty epic series on WWII. The Pacific is also good, according to a couple friends.

Well, I did know that it was a show about WWII. But I've never seen it, haven't heard of anyone in it, and have no idea what channel it was on.

Probably because it didn't have plastic boobs or men in tights.

I haven't seen it, yet. Stress the "yet."

Or because I work evenings. I haven't seen any new TV shows in the last 6 years. I think I've seen about 15 minutes of The Office and just started watching My Name is Earl on TBS.

It was on HBO 10 years ago and currently airs every few months on SpikeTV. You can buy it from Amazon.

Re: Bring Out Your Dead (Part Whatever v2.0)

Not much to add, except that Band of Brothers was the best television ever produced. Nothing before or since, including Pacific, has come close. Losing Dick Winters saddens me because I really don't believe we produce men like him anymore. By definition, if that was the Greatest Generation, we've been cranking out Lesser Generations ever since, and man, it shows.

To bring you up to speed, The Office has sucked for the last 2.5 years and My Name is Earl sucked since Season 2 started. How I Met Your Mother started sucking midway through last year. All the other sitcoms have always sucked except Community which sucked for the first half of the first season but has ruled TV ever since.

So, you didn't miss much.
