priceless is certainly the authority on this, but i think, technically rpi is the tie breaker, but say those teams have played head to head 3 times and the team with the lower rpi has gone 3-0-0 in those three games, they might select the team with the lower rpi...

Not quite. Here's a way for UMD to lose the play-in game and still get in:

CCHA Semifinal #1: Miami defeats Michigan.

CCHA Consolation game: Michigan defeats Northern Michigan.
WCHA Play-in #1: North Dakota defeats Minnesota-Duluth.

Almost every game outside the WCHA tournament has to happen exactly like that though.

Everyone else is an autobid or nothing.

Has there been discussion of eliminating the consolation games? They can have such a huge impact both positive and negative and since not all leagues have them..or should all leagues have them? I remember when HE had them and I always thought it was a waste of a game - this was when the NCAA was only 12 teams so less of an impact, but seems like things should be consistent now. I'm sure it's up to each league, but they should all get together on this.

2007. St. Lawrence, UMass, Maine. UMass had won 4 straight games over Maine AND won the comparisons over both, and was still given the 4 seed behind SLU and Maine. I remember a lot of us had that wrong, because we broke ties H2H or by comparisons, but it's straight RPI.

Id rather see Northern in St Paul. Just got to win a game this weekend, and Northern should be a lock, unless we win the CCHA and give other bubble teams heart attacks. :D

And Ive also become a BC, Cornell, Denver/Wisconsin/St Clood fan for the weekend.

Grumble. I rewrote that section but pasted the wrong one. UMD really has to win one game at the F5, 2 to be comfortable.

Pretty sure if you root for BC, Cornell, and Wisconsin that UNH will be in - must be that Black Bear for life thing that has you tripped up :)

bracketology gives me a headache...... i'm glad UW isn't on the bubble this year because i just don't have the energy to play out all the ways they could get in... so to the boys on the team, thanks for playing hard all year and avoiding this headache that is the bubble teams.. hahaha i guess those .0002 workout shirts i the offseason worked...

what a dufus , please by all means root for bc cornell wis st cloud , even root for bu to win it all , or for that matter uvm to win it all . they still get in ... guess i might as well root for BU.

Just wondering what scenario has BC as a 7? The worst I could get them is as a 6.

Agreed. But I think they should do away with Consolations games, rather than implement them in all the leagues.

I also like the HEs way of doing the post-season. Making the regular worth something, by eliminating the worst two teams. Wish the post season conference touraments became somewhat consistant.

I just want to see NMU make the Tourny...thats why Im cheering for no more upsets. If Northern falls on their face again in Detroit there is still a chance for them to make it, so minimal upsets across the board.

And yeah, even if UNH makes it...its not like they will win the whole thing :D

The WCHA will eliminate it next year as part of a move to a 12 team conference (or, at least that is the focus of the discussion for a "new" Final Five). The new format, still under discussion, would be two play-in's on Thu., two Semi's on Fri. and a Championship on Sat. The Final "Five" would then refer to five "games" rather than five "teams."

like i said... i don't claim to be the authority... :)

do you have the final rpi for that year? all i could find was the 3/17/07 on slack.net which had the following (not sure if it is final)

STL - .5384
Massachusetts - .5328
Maine - .5306

if those are in fact, the season ending rpis, i wonder if they took liberties in seeding in this instance, as all three teams were in the field... if they were all tied for the last spot in the tournament i wonder if it would have played out differently

What if it comes down to two teams tied at 14th for the last spot in the tournament?

Like would they still take team 1 if this were the case? Like to decide who gets in the tourny, not just seeding?

RPI: .5300
H2H: 0-3-0
Record: 17-17-3

Team 2
PWR: t14
RPI: .5298
H2H: 3-0-0
Record: 20-17-0

On the predictor I just came up with a scenario to get Michigan State in with a 14th ranking in the pwr. RIT 15th and Alabama-Huntsville 16th.

Has anyone else been able to accomplish this?

My 1st thru 14th.

1. Denver
2. Miami
3. Wisconsin
4. North Dakota
5. Cornell
6. Boston College
7. Bemidji State
8. Vermont
9. St. Cloud State
10. Northern Michigan
11. Yale
12. Alaska
13. New Hampshire
14. Michigan State

I also couldn't get BC below a 6, but came across a scenario where they finished 7. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was Vermont over BC, Cornell and St. Cloud winning the WCHA. That knocked them down to 7.

Judging from the past, it would be straight RPI. Team 1 would get in.
