Doesn't make sense - it doesn't sound like the kid is responsible for it coming loose from the tethers.

There's no way these dumb, hippie d-bag parents are the type to actually teach the kid a lesson.

He's probably been given a timeout away from the cameras with a cupcake to keep him from crying.

High school was full of random Fridays or Mondays off for "Teacher In-Service", weekend break, conferences and other nonsense ten years ago. Wouldn't surprise me if this was some weird Fall break.

They've been saying for a while now that the balloon had nowhere near enough lift for the boy to have ever been in the balloon while in flight.

Whatever that is its bright green and black. The kid is three feet tall so... visual perspective is really needed on this.
