BouncyBall 2013/2014

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Living in the Bay Area, I kind of wait to become a single-season bandwagon fan of the Warriors just because with them it feels like the one year they ever have a chance of things coming together. Of course, the Pistons are technically only a game out of the 8th seed, so who knows? :p

Jennings tore his Achilles and he's out 6-9 months. Tanking is probably back up for discussion.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I saw an atypical triple-double last night: 10 points, 11 rebounds, 10 blocked shots.

Edit: just out of curiosity, I did a search for "quadruple double" and found a few recorded.

For the pros:

Quad-double leaders [have] only been done by 3 people since 1986 -- Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, & Alvin Robertson -- and Hakeem is the only person to do it twice.

Wikipedia also credits Nate Thurmond with a quadruple double in 1974, and it says that only one men's division I basketball player ever recorded a quadruple double, Lester Martin of University of Tennessee-Martin in 2007.

Martin and Alvin Robertson were points rebounds assists steals, Thurmond Akeem and David Robinson were points rebounds assists blocks.

Apparently no quintuple double has been recorded in pros or NCAA division I men. No doubt some high school glandular freak has done it somewhere, sometime....

I think this is the year the wolves FINALLY get the #1 overall. I've been saying it for a few weeks now.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I know. This is the year everything should be rigged for one of the coasts. Two of the most iconic (maybe the two most iconic) teams are awful as well. I just think that's why silver rigs it for Minnesota this year. This franchise needs to get a defib to get target center upgraded and to keep the rigor mortise from setting in.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

The winning team improved their record to 22-9?? Their 4th game this week? Why do they have 31 games already in the books by February 4th?

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

The national media has been making it a big deal about Geno Auriemma's 900th win as a college basketball coach. The UConn fans know better: they had a video in the stadium after the game with a bunch of former players saying congratulations to the coaches, as Chris Dailey started as an assistant coach in 1985 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach in 1988. Every tribute said congratulations Geno and CD. Classy.

I liked his challenge to the rest of the country in the post-game press conference. When asked if it was a bad thing for women's basketball to have one team be so dominant, he replied:

People need a goal to shoot for. Our goal is to be the best we can be. It is not my fault that it is not getting done at other places. I am not condemning anybody, I am not bragging, I am saying we are going to keep doing what we are doing, we are not going to stop. If there is some coach out there that hears this, sees this and says I am going to beat their (butts), we need more of that but I not going stop setting the bar and in fact I am going to try to keep raising the bar I don't want to stop setting the bar and it is up to everybody else to try to get there.

One of the hardest things to do in any sport is to win consistently as the favorite. Every team you play brings their best to bear against you.

Don't have a link, but James Dolan (Knicks' owner) told an upset fan to "start rooting for the Nets."

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

The Bucks have doubled their win total from last season.... before the All-Star Break.

I think the Dunk compeittion has gotten a little crazy in recent years, but I am looking forward to seeing Giannis' attempt. If he played in a bigger market (or for a better team), NBA marketing would be all over him. Just a fun, likeable kid. I really enjoy watching him.
