BouncyBall 2013/2014

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I would have spot fired him (edit: yes, itg, but you can't act like that). The whole thing is just ****ing condescending. If he has legit concern for students who have an exam the next day or something that's one thing. Who would want to deal with such a jerk?

After the UCONN women won tonight, I wonder if Derek the RA is stepping down.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

That was fun.....

Here is an odd statistic.

There have been four Division I schools to have both their men's team and their women's team reach the NCAA basketball tournament championship game in the same year:

-- Duke in 1999. UConn men's team beats Duke's men's team.
-- UConn in 2004. Both teams win
-- Louisville in 2013. UConn women's team beats Louisville women's team.
-- UConn in 2014. Both teams win.

Betweent the two teams, UConn has reached the championship game 13 times. Their record in those games is 13 - 0.

I wonder if an entrepreneur in Storrs is going to start selling bottled water or something....

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

I don't recall how I stumbled onto the 538 blog on espn, but it's now regular reading.

From today:

The [two] championships [in 2014] moved UConn into an indisputable lead as the most successful overall Division I college basketball program, when accounting for men’s and women’s achievements.

UConn’s men’s and women’s teams, combined, have the most titles, the most tournament wins, the highest winning percentage and the highest average margin of victory in the NCAA tournament in Division I since 1951. The race was a close one until a few weeks ago, but UConn’s success this year coincided with stumbles by its two closest rivals in the category: Duke and Tennessee. It’s a remarkable achievement for UConn, which two decades ago hadn’t won any Division I basketball titles, men’s or women’s.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Milwaukee clinched the worst record in the NBA last night. Nice work Bucks, I knew you could do it!!! Even when Philly lost 20-whatever in a row, I still had faith! ;) Second last would have felt like a disappointment.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Herb Kohl is selling the Milwaukee Bucks to two hedge fund guys. Price is $550 million (Herb paid $18 million for the team in 1985). Condition of the sale is they must stay in Milwaukee, and he is giving $100M towards a new stadium. New owners put up another $100M; I suppose Milwaukee County will need to be taxed for the rest.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

How do you make a condition that they won't be moved? Couldn't they theoretically just sell to a private holding company they own and be rid of any contracts?

I mean, Kohl's lawyers and Milwaukee are smart enough to see this kind of shenanigans and probably find a way to try to head that off. But if the new owners are intent on moving, what's to stop them?

I think that would be where the NBA comes in to agreeing to the sale. They say have a new arena really to go by whatever date in a reasonable amount of time or else its off to KC or Seattle.

Dear LeBron: You can't always get what you want.

That video's set to private. What was it?

Well, I suppose that's a reason enough for me to be glad I moved away from Milwaukee. I was last living in Waukesha County, so I wasn't likely to get hit with that, but I'm hearing that the price tag for the new stadium would be upwards of $400+ million. I don't want to be a part of that.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Michigan star Mitch McGary will enter the NBA draft after smoking the pot. Tested positive on an NCAA administered test, which carries a full year suspension. If he had gotten caught on a UM test it would've only cost him 10% of the season.

Re: BouncyBall 2013/2014

Clippers left their warm up jackets at half court and are wore the rest of their warm up gear inside out to hide any logos (except on the pants) in protest of the owner's comments.

It'd be even better if they went out to some sports store and got those cheap reversible jerseys and to wear for the game, but the NBA would probably fine each player an ungodly amount.

Sponsors are starting to pull out of deals with the Clippers. This team will be for sale soon.
