I have heard talk that the Amish who live in the Massena area would be available to shuttle the players around by horse buggy. I told them our people would call their people, but upon second thought, they probably don't have phones.

The convenience here is obviously that they live about 30 minutes away by car, so it would take them several hours just to come pick up the teams from wherever they are staying.

Upon further review how could the tournament committee invite a team that has victories over Miami (two wins in Oxford) Bemidji State (two wins and a tie) and NCAA tournament qualifier Alabama-Huntsville (two wins)???????

Ouch.

Instead of Ford Pintos, I feel they should be using bike taxis. That way you are limited to local roads only, and have the added benefit of not being able to go very far without killing the driver.

Better yet, don't provide drivers.

Why are we talking about this? I just expected all of the teams to stay at the arena, sleeping bags on the ice!

Rough, bumpy ice? Fine!
NO ice? That's a problem.

The committee is considering the following courses of action:

1. Move the MW regional to the nearby Kenner Dome.
2a. Move the MW regional to Flowood Mississippi, and leave the FutileFour where it is (Flowood)
2b. Move the MW regional to Flowood, and send the FF to Laurium in HOPES that there will be ice there by then.
3. Leave the MW regional at Laurium, but make the teams rent roller blades.

We need your input. Army's team is leaving tonight for their 19+ hour bus trip, and they're going to call us from a pay phone in Walbridge Ohio and see if they should head north, or what.

The Kenner Dome won't have ice either, sorry. :o If you'd like, the Gipp organizing committee could buy Walmart out of ice and tie a 10 pound chunk to every skater's feet?

Otherwise, I'd suggest 3. It's possible there would be ice at one of the other local skating establishments as well - our friends in da UP will have to do that footwork.

The only places that immediately come to mind are too prestigious for this tournament. Then again, I'm not in the UP any longer. :p

I say we make 'em rollerblade. :D

Wait I have a cheaper option.

The players all own sneakers and we can get some tennis balls. I'll be happy to donate the basket full of my dogs used tennis ball, those should work well.

Their sticks will be a liitle long but they can adjust and play floor hockey.

Why doesn't the organizing committee just take it upon herself to go put some ice in the damm Gipp? Given the organizing committee's general incompetance in everything else, I'm sure that the resulting playing surface would be exactly the quality that this tournament strives for.

since when has this tournament gone all namby pamby and demanded ice?
so the ice is bad or minimal or not there. suck it up boys. deal with it.
save ice for the drinks.

have been thinking about suggesting the Southernmost hockey rink for a site next year. roller hockey. yeah, yeah, I know, the bars, the restaurants, the museums, the boating, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, drugs, drag queens, public nudity. it does have something to offer. at least no one would be interested in the actual hockey.

Because of the sh|tty quality of the freezing mechanisms in the Gipp, making ice at this point, with the weather being as unseasonably warm as it is, would virtually be impossible.
However, the flooding of the slab would cause for some lovely watery conditions.

No one would ever go to watch any of these matchups if they could see public nudity instead.
