Bottom-feeders 2016-17

Any thoughts as to how this plays out as we approach the dog days of March and April?

How's the math looking for the Despairwise "top" 16? What creative methods are the Committee considering to determine sites, dates, times, who are likely officials, all that delicious stuff I can really relate to as a Spartan fan?

Are there paganistic divining rituals involved?

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

Glad I'm not the only one concerned about the Bottom-feeders.
Could try the Super Regional with 8 teams at 2 locations. An outdoor Super Series would be fun--assuming a late thaw.

Just to get the juices flowing here are the potential teams in reverse order. (as of 3/3/17)

40 Holy Cross
41 Sacred Heart
42 Dartmouth
43 Bentley
(Included Sacred and Holy to avoid being struck by a bolt of lightning)

---------------------------------------
44 Maine
45 Arizona State
46 Mercyhurst
47 Colgate
48 Michigan State
49 Ferris State
50 Northern Michigan
51 RIT
52 Alaska
53 Lake Superior
54 American International
55 Rensselaer
56t Alabama-Huntsville
56t Alaska-Anchorage
56t Massachusetts
59 Brown
60 Niagara

AQ: Colorado College, by last place conference position, could be considered for inclusion.
Both Niagara and Michigan State won tonight. Fortunately Niagara maintained its hold on the "top" seed.

Maine season comes to a end tonight and again with a lost...no wins on the road. 11-21-4, this makes the 4 year rebuilding program under Gendron @ 49-82-17.

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

Kinda amused to see UA_ so low.

UAA has to play Brown, freaky to see the similarities between us two.

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

By my count there are approximately 400 players deserving of a Participation Trophy.

Seriously, someday they can all proudly tell their kids and grandkids they were D1 hockey players. No shame in that.

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

When the field is finally set, I don't want to hear any b ! t c h i n g about the WCHA getting UAA plus five at-large bids into the tourney this season. We've earned those spots fair and square by playing what, 96% of our NC games on the road this season. Finally a thread about WCHA domination!

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

After the regular season, the eligible teams remain the same. For some reason Michigan State is still skating.
The NCHC does not have a team, but that was due to Colorado College's failure to lose to ranked teams such as Duluth, North Dakota, Western Michigan. They don't deserve inclusion.

Again in reverse order of ineptitude:
Maine
Arizona State
Mercyhurst
Colgate
Michigan State
Ferris State
Northern Michigan
RIT
Alaska
Lake Superior
American International
Rensselaer
Alabama-Huntsville
Alaska-Anchorage
Massachusetts
Brown
Niagara

8-24-4 record definitely deserves consideration even if they did play the toughest schedule in the country. Also, that automatic qualifier!

CC should make it as the NCHC deserves a representative. Also, is there a reason that you listed 17 schools?

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

... For some reason Michigan State is still skating ...
"And they still suck" - which should sort of make them an at-small qualifier, no? They are establishing a real tradition here be sewing up back-to-back single-digit-win seasons by week's end.

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

For some reason Michigan State is still skating.

Last weekend was the final regular season weekend for the Big Ten. The conference tournament starts tomorrow (Thursday). If Michigan State loses they're done.

Re: Bottom-feeders 2016-17

Where are the regionals and finals this year? Hunting for just the wrong sheet for a hockey game was always half the fun.
