Boston University Terriers 2026-2027 season…insert clever title here!

Agree with Dave, it's the effort you notice this year. Maine's a real test though. Their PK has killed 18 of 19 and they just shut out Colgate twice. BU's power play will have to earn it. I'd call it a split and be happy with that.
I'm not counting on our PP against Maine. So far, the Terriers have mostly found other ways. I hope that changes, but probably not this weekend.

The MC loss was a huge upset but they still could have won an NC . Losing to UNH in the regional final. Big choke year in the post season with an absolute loaded team and All American goalie. Lost a 3-1 lead in third period in Regional final and then a shorthanded goal in OT by that two bit bum Mark Mowers.
😄

The difference, I think, is visible effort, not just obvious skill. This year they feel like they could be overachievers, not ... you know.
Most of the shortcomings we've seen this year are coachable. Positioning, structure, some fundamentals. From the outside and the inside, the group feels connected with one another and rowing in the same direction. That's a much better place to be than a group who were the exact opposite of that.

I’ll be at both games and hoping this year’s squad is ready…Maine had a slump for a while but has returned to being a tough opponent…Stephen King musta slid them some NIL money

Pando: "It's gonna be a challenge. I watched Maine's last four games, the two against Quinnipiac and the two with Colgate, and they're playing very well defensively. Protecting the slot very well. Not giving up a lot (of chances)...We have to find a way to create O-zone time, create second and third chances. Find a way to get inside."

Maine went deep into the transfer portal. Top 3 scorers.

I tune in a bit late and .... what the hell is going on? 3-0? Then...they scored again already?

One back right after that but .. still. This seems unusual given what I was seeing earlier this season

Talk about starting on time! Maine is still trying to figure out what time the game starts.

They must be feeling the 90’s in these uniforms- keep wearing them!

11 Maine starters have transferred in according to line-up chart. Haven’t really paid attention to attention to know if that’s an above average number, but seems like a lot.
last year was very very similar to the problems the terriers had, they needed to clean house a little. it's been mostly better outside of a few stinkers. this is definitely the stinkiest.

That felt like the best period and a half BU has played in years. Good forecheck and breakout. Maine was just letting the BU forwards get behind them all night.

Maine was still on the bus but credit to BU for coming out in a Friday and starting fast…Lawrence and Malhotra looked like guys who were drafted highly. Mike with big save late in first to keep it 4-1. Maybe Maine wasn’t positioning well but credit to BU for seeing the ice and getting pucks into dangerous places. Lots of stunned Maine fans and lots of people who were two minutes late and missed 3 goals

there's no one right answer or solution on the problem of when to leave. those with a good head on their shoulders and with the right people around them will be able to weigh the risks and rewards here. it is up to the program to continue to live up to the expectations so they continue to be an appealing destination to the player, their circle (agent, family, etc), and the team that holds his rights. and to make sure they recruit the type of kids who make those sound decisions :)

it's not a 1-1, but i know of a relevant case study from UConn. Sharks 2022 6th round pick Joey Muldowney could've left each of the last two years, especially when his twin/bestie/roomie Jake Richard decided to back out on returning for their senior season and signed in Buffalo mid-offseason. he didn't come in highly touted but when you end your sophomore season second in goals in the nation behind Ryan Leonard you can definitely believe your own hype. joey also has the size to deal with so that might make him more willing to stay and build strength to overcome it. perhaps the more interesting parallel here is how during his freshman year, uconn's dressing room allegedly was a train wreck and it showed on the ice. they had home goal scoring droughts that stretched multiple games, they had talent but it didn't go together, it looked a lot like BU last year. they lost a lot of guys to pros and the portal (Sergeev, Salminen, Wood), but the twins guilted Hudson Schandor into staying for his grad year, coach overhauled the roster, leaders established the culture quick, and the huskies of the past 3 seasons have emerged. injuries got in the way a bit last year but the difference in how the team felt to watch from 23-24 to each of the next 2 has been stark, both on the ice and just overall. i think it's made a big impression on all the players, because they haven't lost many to the portal since and are recruiting well.

in theory, BU should have an even easier time rebounding from a tough season due to the inherit recruiting and prestige bonus, and if they do it successfully a la 24-25 UConn, it can be spun into an "us against the world" rah rah thing that leads to some actual wins.
I always enjoy your informative posts! 2 observations:

Continuing to make a program an appealing destination for a player will inevitably involve the money they are able to pay. It is just the reality that the "haves" (of which BU clearly is) will have the resources (read $$$) to attract the best recruits.

Love Joey Muldowney's game (gave him a shout out before last night's game at Merrimack). 2 goals and an assist and a threat on every shift. Props to him for staying.

Oh, and BU's blitz against Maine last night was amazing (the passing on that second goal was a thing of beauty!)
