Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

To all the BC Trolls on this thread, to quote J.D. "it is only fitting" that BC lose big to an EZAC team in arguably the weakest regionaL Stuffed by Parker and BU in the last meeting with York and then stomped by the Onion. Yes, FITTING indeed.

I don't get the comparison, you're trying way too hard. But I certainly expected this from you. What you won't see is me throwing a childish tantrum like you did when I actually brought up a comparison that made sense. Happy easter.

Eric, the one thing I would say is desirability doesn't factor into my equation because it's not like there will ever be a situation where a coach picks bc/bu over und. The reason is simply each will have their own set of candidates--there won't be any overlap. Guys with und ties will find it very desirable.

That is a good point and true
Two different cultures and circles. A Boston guy out there wouldn't "blend"

On another note, this tournament's surprises have made for some VERY entertaining reading on these boards today! Our own mookie has been dropping classic bait all over the place and getting some great hits. :D :D :D :D

Classic Mookie. Given me more than a few laughs this weekend.

Well that is likely true. Even putting North Dakota in the mix, I still think it is hard to say that it is a "better" job than either BU or BC..... maybe this is just a splitting hairs discussion.

Did anyone else think how easily Yale could have been BU?

Well, when you consider how well UML is playing, it puts the 1-0 HE final in a different light.

It also shows why the program needed a change...BU played well enough in the last 10 games to make fans wish they could have squeaked into the tourney. Problem was they played 20+ games before that in which they periodically looked like they would have trouble squeaking into a HS tourney.

I wish they got in but also know they could have been a 5-1 loser in the first round too. I'd like to think they'd show up and play like they were capable but that is exactly what ailed them, so who knows which team would have shown up?

No not really, just enjoying the way things have played out at your expense. You just don't get it

Crap. Nieto is gone.

They'd be better off with him than without him, but there may be a benefit to cleaning the slate and starting from scratch, pretty much. It's not like these guys have an armload of accomplishments.

And not like they are the 08-09 crew, at the end of the 07-08 campaign, bringing back one of the strongest teams in the country. If he is a junior, no issue with him departing now, 4 year guys with NHL skills are rare. The players' bias is usually towards the "next opportunity" and I'd say more than 30% leave before they needed to/should have. I hope he met with Quinn before he did so, giving him the courtesy and respect.

I'm not sure there is a benefit to him leaving... but as Pirate alluded to it is not unexpected at the end of his junior year. I think Quinn said at his press conference that he was scheduled to talk to both Nieto and Noonan. I'd guess the coaching change had no impact either way on the decision.

Wish he had stayed but also wish him well.

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

I believe he talked to Quinn following the introductory press conference last Tuesday and the Boston Hockey Blog article indicated he alerted both Parker and Quinn about his intentions.

Ahh, maybe it will rub off on other Terriers...nothing wrong with leaving, just do it on good terms and before or after the season. Never know when a good word from an old coach or teammate might come in handy.

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

The collective bargaining agreement almost forces most drafted pro prospects to leave after their junior season
Anders Lee just left Notre Dame
the last two years about 30 players have left the NCAA early
No reason to think the number is going down
Helping schools with less elite prospects have success
