Boston University at UMass Lowell 2/5

Re: Boston University at UMass Lowell 2/5

From Parker's newsletter:

"We will need to approach every game like a playoff game and see if we can put a winning streak together."

He also highly praises Millan. So, all indications point to Millan starting the rest of the way. Including Friday.

Millan will start Friday and Monday barring an injury.

...The excitement in this thread is palpable.

Yeah. It's got a little of that, "This is a game we really can't afford to lose / I can't even think about it" feel, on both sides.

(That or "Lost" is on again. Who knows. :p )

Tomorrow will be my first ever visit to Tsongas... anything I shouldn't miss?

Edit: ...or should miss?

Just be aware that Lowell is having its Winterfest which occurs on roads around Tsongas. That means some roads will be closed on your attempt to get to the Arena.

Enjoy the Game!

Lowell's first White Out night attempt that I can remember (been going since '03)

Re: Boston University at UMass Lowell 2/5

This is a huge game for both teams as a win for the Terriers would put them in a tie with Lowell for fifth. That being said, Lowell could def. start to distance themselves from BU with a big weekend. The winner of this game also gets the season series, and looking at the current standings, this game could be crucial in deciding final seedings.

They have decent food there. Don't miss the fried dough. And don't attempt to walk all the way around the concourse, you'll fail.

I'm biased, but you should definitely walk around the place. The arena's really nice, and everyone seems to love the fried dough. There's also a couple of good beer stands around. I can't wait till next season when the DiamondVision is up. If I'm not mistaken, this will be the first ever game with UMass Lowell as the official owner of the building. :)

I agree with Umassfan49. As we've been noting on the Lowell thread, this is just a frustrating team right now. Defense and goaltending are solid, but they just can't find the back of the net.

Re: Boston University at UMass Lowell 2/5

That was gonna be my No. 1 piece of advice. I really don't have anything else to add. If you're walking from the commuter rail, try missing all the traffic, because there aren't any sidewalks.

There are sidewalks some of the way. I've walked from commuter rail to Tsongas and Merrimack, and this is by far the simpler trek, FWIW.

The arena is pretty solid, nicer than the average HE rink. Fried dough is a must and should be required in every rink.

And has it been confirmed that Lowell is getting a jumbotron? Or is DiamondVision just a flat screen?

My friend and I got completely lost walking back to the train from a Merrimack game last year. With Tsongas it's a little more dangerous but a lot easier, I think.

I'm actually not fully sure to be honest. :o

Agreed. I believe it's a suitable replacement for the former Best Concession at a Hockey East arena that was held by the french fries at Tully Forum.

I think what cc99 was referring to was that you can no longer walk around the concourse due to the Talon Club. :) And you're now the official owner of the building? What was that ceremony then the last time we were there?

Where is the commuter rail station close to Merrimack? I had no idea you could take the train there.

Google estimates 38-minute walk from the Andover station, but it usually took us about 25 minutes.

I think the coolest thing up at Tsongas is the Pepsi Blimp. Flat. Out. Awesome. And it drops gift certificates onto the spectators!

EDIT: Oh, and when I was up there for the game earlier this season, they had the Squirts/Bantams? square off in a shootout format during the intermissions...it was actually pretty entertaining.
