Re: Boston University 2019-2020

I have been told it is likely Commesso will leave after his sophomore season, so maybe Abel leaves BU for a season and then returns so he will still have 2 seasons of eligibility after Commesso leaves.

Sean

Very doubtful a goalie would leave after just two seasons. Oettinger/Woll etc left after 3 seasons.

Re: Boston University 2019-2020

Spencer Knight could prove to be the exception there. I would think he might leave after two years. But overall I agree with you. Where is Commesso expected to be drafted? Rounds 2-3?

I would say 2-3 rounds is about right - normally where goalies get drafted. I am not sure Knight leaves that early. Lets not forget he is a true freshman and is only 18. Florida has goalie position locked up with Bobrosky for the next 8 years or so with the deal he signed. I could see Florida not rushing him and wanting him to play a few more years at BC. Commesso will be the same situation and a true freshman. Then again Primeau left after 2 seasons....

until the kid is drafted it's all a wag

whomever gets his rights will help the estimations

Re: Boston University 2019-2020

I'd still rather see Fensore playing up front. Almost 70% of the UML players were over 6' and many also over 200lbs. At 5'7" and 150, Fensore just can't play the body against that size. he just gets shoved aside or bodied off the puck. He's so talented a skater and slick as a puck handler, he could be very dangerous as a forward. Harper-esque, I'd say.

Slick skating puck moving defensemen often impress with their breakouts - they get a lot of momentum and it's easier to skate around guys and look good. I don't think that necessarily translates to effective play down low in the offensive zone on a regular basis. Even on his tying assist on Saturday, he was pinching in from the point due to the situation, so he had the speed to get free enough coming out of the corner to hit Curry for the goal. I would be hesitant to try him at Forward. I would rather he learn how to play better in his own end and keep the benefit of what he brings to the breakout, Power Play, etc. Not everyone will turn into Matt Grzelcyk, but if he can learn to play well enough in his own end like Farrance, he could be a huge asset for the next 2-3 years.

This seems like a value proposition to me. If you don’t think he’s capable of becoming an improved defenseman, then I suppose you could play him as a forward and possibly also use his as a PP specialist at defenseman at the same time.

But if you think he’s capable of making enough defensive improvement, then I think you simply can’t move him. The experience is too important for his growth as a defenseman.

I think I lean into the latter camp, but I can understand falling into the former.

Re: Boston University 2019-2020

Lot's of Jack Parker quotes in this long article on College Hockey attendance woes.

https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2020/01/29_Crowded-Interest.php

Good article and pretty much a summary of all of the reasons we have talked about on here... one quote I did find funny was Clarkson's Bartell asking why season ticket holders don't give their tickets away when the don't use them... the answer? We try but it is often hard to even give the seats away to someone who will use them. I've all but given up on trying to do that.

Re: Boston University 2019-2020

I haven't seen a line up for tonight. My guess would be that Tucker starts tonight, and Abel goes on Monday unless Tucker has a stellar game tonight, then maybe it becomes a tougher decision. That would be a tough one for Tucker who until a couple weeks ago was clearly in line to start in the Beanpot.

If Coach O'Connell starts Tucker tonight then I will no longer support his remaining head coach.

The numbers don't like nor do our eyes. Abel is clearly the better goalie right now and the team has played better with him in net. Quality, stable goaltending from a goalie with a calm disposition rubs off on teammates.

Tucker had some excellent games, but has also looked very rattled at times. His confidence and body language @ BC looked shot, where most saves seemed like an adventure.

BU has to ride Abel until there's a reason not to.

The camera angle here is outstanding. It's akin to sitting in the front row of the balcony at Matthews Arena.

Re: Boston University 2019-2020

A must win to stay in the race for a HE regular season title for sure. Zegras with a money shot for the win - absolutely need more of that in the next few months. We are right in the middle of this thing folks. Only 1 point out with a league game against BC late in the season.

Speaking of BC I'm flying up from Florida this weekend for Monday's game. Hopefully the boys deliver a big win - who thinks we have a decent shot at the Pot?

Anything can happen in the Beanpot but we are the lowest ranked of all 4 teams right now.

Re: Boston University 2019-2020

I sometimes wonder about the sanity of this group...
Speaking about a freshman goalie that has been here for less than two months, played his third straight game, and speculating about whether he will transfer or not.
Give it a break.
Let the kid play, and see what happens.
Jeez.
