Re: Boston University - 2017-2018 season - thread numero uno

I'm glad it worked out for Coyle. He's having a pretty good NHL career. But I think if he had stuck it out at BU, he'd have ended up still having a pretty good NHL career. I imagine it'll work out in the end for Bellows, too, and it would've if he had stayed at BU.

I agree that Coyle likely would have still had a good NHL career if he had stayed at BU. He had a very solid freshman season, he was just in a rut the first half of his sophomore season. I'm not so sure about Bellows. He did NOT have a good freshman season, at least good enough to show he is a future NHLer. His biggest strength was supposed to be his shot, but he wasn't able to create enough space for himself to really leverage it.

I really hope he finds success and makes it, but I have my doubts. I think he would have developed into a good college player had he stayed. Beyond that, who knows.

The issues Bellows faced at BU are not similar to the ones Coyle had. Bellows had every opportunity to play and succeed here, but consistently underachieved, had difficulty adjusting to college-level defensive schemes, was very undisciplined on the ice in the first half of the season, and looked very much like a player who needed time to develop into a college-level player. Coyle looked like he belonged in college from his first game here, never had major penalty issues, and while he needed some adjustment, wasn't two steps behind the pace of the game. He was also playing under Parker's somewhat arcane offensive system that undeniably hindered his offensive ability. Moving to major junior allowed this part of his game to flourish and he succeeded. You cannot make the same argument that Quinn's offensive scheme hindered Bellows's ability to use his offensive skills. It seemed more that he just wasn't ready to compete at a high level in college. A year or two of solid development absolutely could've brought him to that point here.

also like to think charlie was embarrassed at the chitshow his teammates were engaging in and was able to escape (while sadly other guys w/o similar options were stuck).

Sad times for Eastern youth hockey. Patrick Harper is the only New England player to make the US National Team.

And former BU player, Bellows, gets an A. I guess going to college for one year and then quitting to play in the kiddie league displays strong leadership skills. Or maybe it's just the coach is from MN and he happened to choose 10 players from MN. Seems like the fix was in...

3rd highest scoring dman in the country. Not terrible at all defensively. Weird.

I'm not surprised. Too many turnovers/bad plays to go with the good offense, IMHO. Scoring for a d-man is nice, but too many other facets to the game that a d-man needs to be good at.

I would love to see more New England guys on the team, but I think the coach has earned the right to pick his team, given what he did a year ago. Also, it's not just about getting the best players, it is about finding the best players to fill the roles that are needed on the team. A high scoring finesses forward shouldn't be on the team if he is going to play on the 4th line.

I think he's gotten a lot better since the beginning of the season.

Cause we’re a family

What did you say?

We’re a family

......... I think we have our team :)

"...and this is the family you want to take to the games..."

"Definitely..."

"Without a doubt..." :D

Fabbro has been added to Canada's final roster for the WJCs. His availability was in doubt due to a lower-body injury and he'd only practiced twice since the second BU-Lowell game. Canada vs. Finland (Kotkansalo) at 4 p.m. ET. USA vs. Denmark at 8.

Amazing how all these BU players raise their games about ten notches when they play ANYWHERE except BU...World Juniors, NHL......hmmm...wonder what that means?

I was just going through the All Hockey Hair clips on YouTube - I had seen some of them a few years ago. If you haven't seen these, their pretty funny. 2016 is my favorite. Anyway, check out the "glove save" at the 5:10 mark of the 2014 clip.
