It'd sure explain a lot....hoky is the Donald. It all makes sense now
Since you asked it was back in 2004:3 shut outs in 6 weeks? When's the last time that happened? (seriously asking)
I'm sure it's about BC losing, how BU got hosed, how BU had a better corsi than lowell...but i don't want to offend scarlet
I wanted to wait for the emotion to die down before saying anything. So after reflection, what Tom Ryan said last night was 100% correct. To win in the playoffs, you need talent AND experience. BU is long on the former and short on the latter. After Friday night, where the effort was there but they just couldn't win the game, they folded their tents the next night. I know everyone is disappointed, but we need to understand why this happened. At this point in time, Lowell is simply a better team...period. BU does not have the leadership to grind through these situations. Lowell was older and stronger and just beat them up. They were focused, disciplined and opportunistic. They didn't let BU go where they wanted to - skill or no skill. They forced BU to the outside for low percentage wrist shots and didn't let anyone get near the front of the net. It was impressive and near flawless. As Tom said, Lowell right now is a Top 5 program NATIONALLY. A few weeks ago I mentioned that BU seems to have a "motivation" problem. I was wrong in phrasing it as if to place blame. Because it takes maturity to produce on a consistent basis. It is becoming evident that highly-skilled players are not used to losing and sometimes don't know how to respond in difficult situations. Tom feels that along with the highly-skilled recruits coming in next year, he hopes that they also acquire some experienced, older, tougher players that can instill a little bit more toughness. BU has the talent, but not the toughness. Mookie, I know you think DQ should run them into the ground in practice, but that's not going to help. Despite all the TV movies showing Knute Rockne and Herb Brooks giving famous speeches, most motivation has to come from within. We need players that don't HAVE to be driven like slaves to realize their potential. They should have enough pride to do that on their own. If they don't, then they haven't reached the maturity level necessary to win, which is what you get in a program with tons of skill but with nobody staying long enough to acquire experience.
No leadership and experience? You're aware that eight skaters and the goalie last night were upperclassmen, right?
OK...so since you like to point it out every time that you think I'm wrong, then explain to me why a team with so much leadership and experience put up such a heartless performance. Vermont and BC are tied 3-3 as I write this in a life and death series. Vermont has stood toe to toe with a team that they have no business playing with, on the ROAD. So what's your answer, since you obviously know so much more than I?
You don't get de facto leadership just because you have experience. The experienced people have to SHOW leadership. Sorry, but that team did not play like they wanted it. And if we have to start opening up the can of worms that that is the coach's job, we're in big trouble after just three years...
While this is true, it's applicable to last night's game but not universally to the whole season. There have been numerous other examples this year where there was a display of leadership, including the Harvard comeback, the QU win with half a roster to name a couple.
Also, Lowell the team who missed the tournament last year and have made exactly one Frozen Four ever is a top-five program overall in the nation? Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
OK. Fine. So then I guess some people on here (not saying you) need to just admit that Lowell is better. Because I continue to read these posts that seem to not take them seriously because their program doesn't have the same "pedigree" as ours. I mean, you can't have it both ways. They beat us three out of four games this year. The point of my post was to assert that you need to bring it every night in the playoffs. BU seems to take too many games "off." You can't say they have "part-time" leadership. Either you have it or you don't. You can't say the leadership is great when they win and then "well, they just played lousy" when they lose. They barely squeaked by one of the worst teams I have ever seen (UMass). Then they stink out the joint last night. I don't think you can dispute that we have a lot of top talent. So how do you explain teams with lesser talent advancing further? It's either one or the other, so which is it?
Tom said that (and he said "Right now"). They weren't playing in 1940 like we were. You can't do anything about the fact that we have been around longer, so of course we have accumulated a more impressive resume.
Sure, he's commenting that Lowell played a remarkable game last night and we laid a complete egg. That does not mean Lowell is one of the five best programs in the country.
Why are you comparing BU to UVM?
