Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I expected more goals, but a win is a win, and this team is 10-5, with all 5 losses coming to current Top 10 teams. If they keep beating the teams they should, they'll finish in a pretty nice position.

- Congrats to Maguire on back to back shutouts. Shame on Friede and Starman for NEVER pointing out that his last outing was also a whitewash. The omission was so blatant, I second guessed myself and thought I perhaps forgot a game in between.
- That first 3-4 minutes was unbelievable. Easily the longest I have ever seen possession in the zone. I had a feeling the lack of a goal during that flurry was a bad omen....I was almost right.
- Kudos to the PK. A 1-0 win easily could have ben a 2-1 loss after that major was called.
- Starman "Jam" count: 4, I think. And his love for Escobedo is a little over the top - I know it is cuz his kid played with him or something like that, but I mean come on.

-BHB reports that since his shaky debut at the Whitt, Maguire has a 1.26 GAA, a .956 sv % and 5 goals against in 4 games.
-If Nieto doesn't fan on a potential grade A in the first, could've been a very different game.
-PK on the major was best BU showed all night, better than the first 3 minutes.
-Starman-Escobedo rivals Pierre McGuire's man-crush on Grzelcyk last week. Starman made sure to point out BU-Long Island connections Escobedo, Rosen, Schaeffer, Redlihs, but managed to omit the Gilroys.

Starman has to have some serious butthurt as a result of his buttboy Joey Diamond's lackluster season without any of the good players Maine had around him in previous seasons.

No hockey till @Denver on the 29th -- too long!

Also -- probably covered earlier -- funny to fly all the way to Colorado for just one game. CC isn't doing anything that week, heck, let's get them on the schedule. :)

The game is exempt so there is no lost revenue from passing up a home game. The free money will cover the plane trip. Plus if we scheduled a 2nd game we would have to drop one of the dozen OOC games we have against the ECAC, and no one wants that.;)

Yes, Air Force is right down the road, too, and has a very nice rink.

The commandant refuses to let me travel from SF to Denver for just one game, unlike the Denver Cup a coupla years ago.

I'm trying to think of the last time we played the big western teams not in the tourney..

Wisconsin?
Minnesota 05, I think.
NoDak this year.
CC 04 or 05?
Denver 09
Michigan 08

I know I'm missing some, but playing eastern teams is rare. Not sure how I feel about it . But it does make it "rare" and "special."

Denver 09 was the Denver Cup tournament. We played DU and CC in 04-05 on the road. Minnesota was 03-04 followed by them opening Agganis. Part of the issue has been the number of HE conference games which will go down significantly next year. Word on the street is we get UND at home Michigan and State on the road Wisconsin home or away (I believe home) and the RHH game. Hopefully well be able to avoid Frozen Fenway 382,293.

But will the extra NC games be filled by western teams or by jack jumping at the chance to play holy cross AND rpi in the same year, as well as the north country teams?

I mean, it may be cheaper to take the bus, especially of agganis will fill up no matter what.

it will be a treasure of riches!!! i'd gladly take a ride to the north country than see nu or uml or mc visit haa. add a trip to worcester to play hc even. ooc = good

Well two with und two with Wisc and two with the michigans is already more power conference ooc games than are normally scheduled each year.

It will be a mix of both I'd assume. With 7 (?) fewer conference games that is a lot of OOC to add to the schedule. So we know we have picked up some big games and it sounds like some of those will be double headers... It could also be neat to see some of the "lesser" teams that we never or don't often see.

Edit: actually as I think about it, it will likely be more western teams. The only conferences gaining OOC opportunity is hockey east and out west. I guess Atlantic hockey picks up a couple with the loss of uconn but ecac is already maxed out on their OOC.

i would like to see some of the big hea guys go play the bentley's and aic's of the world to help try to grow some interest there. not just sit back and let them come to play at haa or conte or alfond
