Boston University 2011-2012 Part V: At least 6 more games, maybe 13... who's with us?

This comment is so ignorantly wrong it's laughable. You think BU hockey (or any hockey program), brings monies to their universities equivalent to big time hoops or football programs? Seriously?

The reason why big time basketball/football schools generate income from those programs is due to TV contracts.

Ah, hellooo...what about the Brown Bear Hockey Network??

No...my point was that it is ANALAGOUS to those programs in the sense that it is at the top of the food chain at BU. It's a flagship program. So any radical upheaval will do tremendous collateral damage to the university (and maybe you don't agree with that, either). Obviously we're talking athletics here. I'm not intimating that there is any relationship between the hockey program relative to the school's reputation if you compare it to the biology program or the med school or SFA. I'm saying in the athletic "bubble" here it's analagous by way of its standing relative to other sports. Do you think ANYONE would have even noticed if this happened with the ultimate frisbee team? When I was at BU, golf wasn't even a varsity sport (it was a club sport). We drove in our cars to competitions (those of us who had cars) and paid our own entry fees and greens fees. Nobody even knew who were were (nor did they care). Everything is relative. I wasn't referring to actual dollars - I was referencing "relative" standing among the athletic programs, of which hockey is king and there isn't even a close second place...

This is why it is meaningless to look at the PWR before the END of the season: Lowell loses to Providence last night so BU moves UP to T4 without even playing...

Good points! (get it? "points" - ha ha ha ha ha) I'm giddy today because there's a game tonight...it's a long wait this time of the year!

UNH has moved to dead last in the PWR, if BU beats them, they're likely out and there goes five TUC wins.

I wonder if losing once and winning in three games is better for BU.

Oh well, the only way to get a 1 seed is BY WINNING THE WHOLE **** THING. (And probably having someone upset BC, bwahaha.)

What difference does it make? Who cares if all 5 of those wins go away? What does that do? Give BU a lower seed and be shipped out west? Big deal. If they don't win, it doesn't really matter a whole hell of a lot. If they hadn't lost a few of the games they did during the season, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. They didn't win some of those games so now they need to focus on winning NOW. Just keep winning and let the chips fall where they may. If they get shipped to Green Bay or St. Paul and don't win out there, it's not because of some other team not doing something. It's because they didn't play well enough. It shouldn't matter where they play or what seed they are. They are in charge of their own destiny.

From the NYT article...

"...But Brown, the university president, said a particular area of interest for the task force was the hockey program’s reliance on players who spend at least one year in elite-level junior leagues before setting foot on campus."

I don't like the sound of that.

What difference does it make?

Correct. Not to mention all of the other permutations that could occur. As I said last week, I think sometimes the players actually look at this stuff and lose focus. The only thing that matters is the game we are playing TONIGHT. If you win and gain momentum, it shouldn't matter who or where you play. The PWR is for losers and teams on the bubble. If we win (I'm just saying) every game the rest of the year, we win the National Championship. And it doesn't matter if we were #1 or #16 in the Pairwise...

So someone who has played a year in juniors has more of a chance to be someone who gets into trouble? Ridiculous concept to begin with.
