Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

There are good bars nearby for food and drink that are much better than anything you could possibly consume at the arena - both Sunset Cantina (across from the arena) and 973 Comm Ave (down the street) are good.

I'd definitely recommend Sunset before the game. Otherwise, the Agganis statue out front and the murals/pictures around the concourse will pretty much give you the full experience you need. The wall of NHL players is pretty cool, especially if you root for an NHL team that's had a handful of guys come through BU (I'm a Pens fan, so seeing Cullen, McEachern, Whitney etc. is pretty cool).

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Hey BU,

So, the only technical "road games" Ive been to haven't even been at teams' home arenas (UNH in Manchester, Lowell in Chelmsford) so Ive made it a goal to visit each of the other HEA arenas over the next couple years! BU is stop #1 on that train (Friday game)

I want to make sure I get some great pics while I'm there and see everything I should because the wife and I are going to album all 10 arenas when we've been to them all....so what are some of the cooler features in the place I need to make sure I don't pass by? On a similar note, are there any defining things I should do to get the full experience (barring the advice to shove my Maine jersey up my ***) For example, I couldn't go see the Sox in Baltimore without having some crab at the game...The Alfond has their potato bar (haha)....that kind of thing.

Looking forward to a fun weekend! :D

Harry Agganis statue- Outside the rink at the corner of Comm Ave and Agganis Way
Jack Kelly statue-top of left staircase when you enter
All American murals- above both staircases when you enter
All American wall- behind 113/114
Terriers in the NHL- Behind 119/120
Terriers in the Olympics (my personal favorite because it's differnet than the others which are basically just player pictures)- Behind 103/104
Terrier Hall of Fame- Behind 116/117
Banners- everywhere:p

For food it's either T.Anthony's, Sunset Cantina, or 973 Comm Ave.
T's is the cheapest and is a good pizza and sub shop, 973 is the closest, and Sunset has the best alcohol selection

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Made my lone trip to Agganis this year for the RPI game and was extremely disappointed to see that the pizza from last year had been replaced!

I agree with this. I don't often get food at Agganis, but being late and hungry once, I was looking forward to the Pizza. Ended up with Sliders instead.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

I would recommend avoiding food at all costs at Agganis. ;) Honestly, it's pretty terrible. The arena itself is nice, though I'm not sure what I would pinpoint as a necessary photo. Maybe the Jack Kelley statue? They have nice displays of the BU players in the NHL and the All Americans on the concourse.

I get a quick meal at T Anthony's. But that's my own pregame ritual.

Terriers in the NHL- Behind 119/120
Terriers in the Olympics

Speaking of which, anybody know of BU's plans on updating these?

The NHL and Olympic displays are hopelessly out of date.

The NHL wall seems very straightforward to update while the Olympic Puck thing a bit more difficult.

Anyway this drives my wife crazy. Every week she checks it out and doesn't see Chris Bourque, John Curry, Matt Gilroy, Colin Wilson, Brandon Yip, or John McCarthy...anybody else I'm missing?

I know a few of these guys only played a few games in the league but there doesn't seem to be a minimum requirement (see M. Laroque)

It seems really lame that this hasn't been taken care of.

If Bourque's not up there, I'd imagine VDG isn't up there either.

Oh come on, it's not like on a recruiting visit a top young athlete would care about going somewhere that could prepare him for a professional career, I can see no benefit to updating either of these besides to make your wife a little happier, and since that's the case it's only fair that she pays for the whole thing. And that Olympic wall, the winter Olympics occur what, every 3 months? That constant updating would be such a financial drain they'd probably have to cut a scholarship or two. It's not like the hockey program recently got a significant revenue increase from any sort of major tournament win.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Hey, don't tell the Maine guy about the secret room where we listen in to recruiting conversations at other schools so we can turn them in to the NCAA.;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Haha, I love the consensus on the food. Yea, I'm going to a pregame event nearby where there will be food, so I'm covered there. DEFINITELY going to take advantage of having beer or tap for the game. Arena pricing though, whats it run us, 7 bucks for a lite?

I'm looking forward to it. In my venture to the other 9, I think the 3 I'm looking forward to the most would be this weekend at Agganis, next year I'm going to do Matthews **as an avid Bruins fan, I like the history**, and probably the Gut, because like Orono....it will be a 'middle of nowhere, so its the biggest show in town' kind of atmosphere. I've heard the language in that building is 2nd only to UMass though.....shocking coming from the hippy state  :p

I've been to a few regionals, 2 frozen fours, and conversed with many traveling fans at the Alfond and always got a solid impression from BU fans. Unlike some other schools that shall remain nameless (although they might only be a few miles down the road, and you all probably share a more intense dismay for them), the Terrier fans I've met are always down to earth, actually know their stuff, and actually dress like they're going to a hockey game and not a friggin polo match.

I had some UNH fans sitting in front of me this past weekend and I had to laugh because everytime Maine scored a goal, or whenever the crowd got into it, they were sitting there covering their ears, looking at each other and scoffing "God, its so loud in here..." Imagine if they actually had to sit in the ****ty seats under the balcony and had drums pounding over their head the whole time to boot?

I've been to all the HE arenas other than the Gutt (which I'll be visiting the end of this month). I've also been to Walter Brown and Tully. My top 3, in order, are Matthews, Alfond and Agganis.

Sorry to bust everyone's hate bubble but i have asked around and did some searching and it looks like this kid is the real deal.

Sorry if I doubt you, considering it's your first post and you have not stated who you asked or where you did your searching. Or provided us with any more solid, hard facts than those "articles".

You aren't going to find any hard facts anywhere because then BU would have problems with the NCAA for breaking numerous rules.
However, the kids real and you can find him at the arena pretty often

BU isn't breaking rules for a kid with a heart disease, an "overall lack of skating ability" and a habit of "piling up the penalty minutes."

Any kid that is that highly regarded that he could have a D-1 team looking into him with "heart issues" would come up on a google search for "Alex Greer Hockey".

And thanks for the neg rep. You don't have enough posts for it to matter, and some of us have USCHO Extra and can see who leaves them.

Well you they arent breaking any NCAA rules because there is no hard facts on this guy but i am pretty sure there there are recruiting rules that stipulate what can and cant be done with a student and the active roster team.

1) Learn how to construct a sentence. When in doubt, subject-verb-object.
2) I don't think the NCAA really cares what a recruit does with roosters. That's between that person and God.
3) How can there be "no hard facts" on a person? He either exists or he doesn't.

Is he going to school here? Who's gonna come recruit him on our campus? Is he freeloading off my dime?!? Does he get an allotment of puckbunnies?!? Extra pudding in the caf?
