Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

You know, I’ve been complaining EVERY HE Tournament about wanting the first game. I, as a fan, have had to deal with the first game going into OT on more than one occasion, with once having BU’s game starting at 10:45.

Yeah, I remember that. The first game was BC/UNH which went something like 3 OT. We were playing Vermont and the place was practically empty when the game started. BU was really never in it, emotionally or otherwise.

What a downer of a game that BU-UVM game was. Wasn't that the game where Bennet was literally facing our net as one of the UVM goals was scored? That game ended Peter MacArthur's bold prediction of winning a national title while he was there (he was one year early).

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

Nah, that was the year UND crushed BU and BC in Worcester. BC beat Miami in 2006.

Yeah, I knew it was another red and white team. That's how I knew BC was coming out of that region. They were the only team in the region that wasn't some combo of red and white. :o

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

So, Northeastern won the Beanpot, BU won Hockey East. The third team that made the NCAA's? Will Providence win the national championship??

These are the things that go through my head while anxiously awaiting the pairings show.....

ETA - one more thought (ok, who's kidding? There will be more!!:p) - the more I thought about it, the less it bothered me that the scenarios changed so that BU HAD to win to get in. I hate having to have the team rely on others to move on. If they won, they were in. And they did. Not sure if that was ever the case in the past. Good for them. I hope it helps them next weekend.

Remember what Mookie always says about winning/losing the beanpot...

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

When is the last year that BU fans felt this good about the freshman class performance on a go forward basis (considering that the Eichel year was going to be a one and done). I was impressed with most all Freshman and except for Tzachuk most s/b here for the longer term. I think Amonte and Cockerill give them speed and skill combo that can be a difference maker. Maybe Crone too? Any thoughts from those of you that saw the team a lot this year.

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

Bowers. Could be a 20-20 next year. I like his game.

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

Does anybody remember what are the BU sections at the DCU Center? I seem to recall they were 105-108 and 204-211. I was just going to drive down and buy tix. The box office is open Mon-Sat (except on event days, but there's an event today - the Worcester Boat Show so it should be open). It's only 25 minutes for me...

Cockerill and Bowers could be a force. Wasn't there a few games when Greenway was away that there was the all-freshmen line of Cockerill/Bowers/Crone? I liked what I saw from them.

Bowers forgot to mention would be nice to get 3 years out of him. No one talks about Amonte I loved what I saw out of him in flashes. Freshman d is going to have to step up big next year. Any chance that Fabbro stays I mean Hickey and Grez ended up being 4 year players.

Tkachuk - came in with high expectations/pressure of being a potential top-5 pick. Had his ups and downs, I think he learned a lot playing with Greenway that will help him down the road. Made All-Rookie team, so he had a good year. He certainly needs another year at BU. I expect he'll be gone after next year, but I think that is more due to being a high pick than necessarily being completely ready for the NHL. Let's see who drafts him.

Bowers - quietly had a very good year. Reminds of JFK in terms of being a smart two way player than can play a speed game or a grinding game effectively. I see him being at BU for two more years.

Cockerill - his skill level exceeded my expectations, given that he wasn't a big scorer in Ann Arbor/Plymouth. I like that he wears #9, because his skating reminds me of a more famous #9 that recently played for us. Love his speed and overall style of play. He should be a 4 year guy, which means he could really be a huge contributor before long.

Amonte - certainly picked big games to score goals (I wonder where he got that from). I think he is the type that will be a third line guy most of his 4 years, but could crack the top 6 if he develops, or if the need arises due to injury/departure. Reminds me of Bobo - good knack for the net.

Crone - tough to get a read - he had an up and down year. Certainly not a candidate for early departure, at least based on his freshman year. He has the skill so he could elevate his game to Top 6.

Witkowski - only played 8 games.

Crotty - looked more comfortable as the year has gone on. I think we'll see huge improvement with him next year. He has a nice all around game, and the team will rely on him more. Since he is a relatively high draft pick, he could be gone after three years if he develops well.

Kotkansalo - also a draft pick, more physical/stay at home than Crotty. Should be here three years at least.

Farrance - has looked good over the last few games back on defense. I hope he is able to stick there.

I thought Amonte really progressed over the season, too. I think that came with regular playing time. I hope they all stay for a bit.

I assume you aren't leaving before the bracket is officially announced. It seems from the little reading I've done that there are still different possibilities of where we could be.

Correct. I can get there in under 30 minutes. But if attendance is such a "factor" as they make it out to be, and given that there are more Western teams in the tournament anyway, why would they move us? The prediction is for Cornell in Bridgeport (which makes sense because it's about the same distance for them anyway) and also Providence (pretty much the same although Worcester would probably be easier) and Princeton in Allentown.

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

Is there a stream of the selection show?

Yes. ESPN3. (at least it was there when I clicked on it - the popup appeared where you have to sign in with your cable provider username and password - but it looks like it is being streamed). You have to click the "WatchESPN" link on the menu.

Re: Boston University 17-18 - thread El Segundo

This team could have——
Eichel
AJ Greer (17games in Colo this year)
JJ Piccinich (16 Goals in ECHL)

JFK (13 goals in AHL)
Charlie (32 pts 59gm B’s)

Keller (20-32 in 71gms AZ)
Pork Chop (40-33 Portland MJ)

.... just sayin’
