Boston College Women's Hockey '25-'26: It's The Hope That Kills You

Penn State women's basketball has the same headline - Fired is the headline and then in the article that the contract expired. It's all semantics, but one thing is for sure that when the contract has expired, the school does not owe the coach any more money.

Out of the blue I just got a video of my 13-yr-old grandson and his school band playing the BC fight song at last night's hoops game at Conte, the season's last, alas.
They were awesome. It was awesome.
Gotta celebrate the victories where you can find them! Congrats on having a 13-yr-old grandson and having him do anything that's a source of pride.

You have to be Crowley's husband or immediate relative.
Hey there, long timer, how have you been??

Well, the cool thing about me is everyone here knows my full name -- it's even in my signature! -- and most know who I am and how I came to support the BC program. I don't keep it a secret! I even wrote an article about it once! https://www.bcinterruption.com/bost...s-hockey-frozen-four-minnesota-golden-gophers

So yeah it's quite funny to see someone hiding behind a screen name calling me an immediate relative of the coach when, by golly wouldn't you know it, that person just so happens to be an immediate relative of a former coach! That's some impressive projection!

If her program is not getting the necessary funding, but the men's sports are, then that's a Title IX lawsuit right there. Perhaps we should be looking into BC's finances and someone should contact the Globe.
Well, no, that's not how it works. For example, BC's athletic director recently broke down how revenue sharing is getting divvied up -- 75% football, 15% men's basketball, 5% women's basketball, 5% split among everyone else. Uh oh, better call the Globe with that public information!

I do think that BC's athletics department is probably spreading itself too thin. With WLAX taking a nose dive and men's hockey in the midst of a generational late season collapse, while football, men's basketball, and women's basketball all approach rock bottom... I think the women's hockey team's poor season is as much a symptom of a declining athletic department as anything else.

Anyway your daughter's playing years were a bit before my time but nonetheless I hope she's doing well in her post-college coaching career these days.

Thanks for stopping by!

I've been reading these message boards for double digit years. I'm a former employee of multiple universities and conferences, including at one point Boston College. I have made this account to post once to address this topic and then I'm going to go back to just laughing at the comments on both the men's and women's forums. You do not have to believe me and I won't try to make you believe me but I just want to stat this fact: BC does not support its women's hockey program. The administration does not care and does not support it (the administration also doesn't care that much about its men's program either but there are wealthy program alums to help offset). Has BC women's hockey fallen from where it once was? Yes. Should they be doing better? Absolutely yes. But they do not have the resources and support that reggiedunlap9 thinks or claims they have.
HALLELUIA ! FINALLY SOME REGGIE SUPPORT. THANK YOU

Thank you for finally speaking up

Its obvious we need a new coach and the numbers that I have posted speak for themselves.

As far as @onetimeposter26 (Mr Crowley) post, You have got to be kidding me. BC doesn't support its BCWIH program ? A few facts

  • Crowley is the highest paid coach in Hockey East. Yes she actually makes as much money as NU coach Dave Flint
  • BC assistants are the highest paid assistants in Hockey East. In some cases they make almost 2X what other assistants make in HE
  • BC has the largest recruiting budget in Hockey East.
Do you want me to keep going or are those enough facts to start ?

BTW @Chris Vogel : the BC Women's basketball coach " didn't get fired because her contact wasn't renewed " and BCWIH is in a " significantly better place" than the hoops program ?

Chris, I understand that you currently broadcast BCWIH games and that you have to play nice with the BC athletic office staff in order to keep your job but you gotta be kidding me.

Where would the bc thread be without folks "stopping by"? And the point being made about excuses is frankly a good one. Either bc has money for a recruiting budget or it doesn't.

Not likely it doesn't have funds and more likely it has some funds, so any excuses made about the limited recruiting that the current staff does doesn't hold water.

How are you even debating this? This is a serious, non-rhetorical question. Please answer it.

Oh here comes Crowley "Fanboy" again @TonyTheTiger20 with his annual rant about how we know nothing and if we don't like the direction that BCWIH is going than we must be an angry ex parent. I know you like to think that you have some inside knowledge about what goes on within BC athletics because you went to a lot of Womens games 10 years ago but you don't. In fact you don't have a clue.

The BCWIH has the largest budget in Hockey East. Salaries, recruiting, staff etc. I know you don't want to believe that but its true. Crowley has been using this excuse for too long and I'm sorry its a bunch of BS. BC people are sick of hearing this excuse every year.

BC has gotten so lazy. They were so used to all of the best players wanting to come there. They have refused to get on planes and travel to expand their recruiting and it has cost them dearly. It was easy to be good when they were the only game in town but then NU and others show up and hire good coaches and the results speak for themselves.

BCWIH is SCREAMING for a leadership change. Its time. And I know you already know this.

Back to business.

As I continue to dive deeper into the numbers as we have watched the total collapse of the BCWIH program over the last 7 seasons I decided to look at our Hockey East playoff performance over this same 7 year period. Please keep in mind that we are talking about Hockey Easy here not the WCHA. Hockey East has been a disaster of a conference as well over this same period of time.

BCWIH last 7 playoffs seasons

2020. Lost in the first round to # 7 seed UConn
2021 Lost in the first round to #7 seed UConn
2022 Lost in the first round to # 5 seed Maine
2023 Lost in 2nd Round to NU
2024 Lost in 2nd round to NU
2025 Lost in the second round to BU
2026 Lost in first round to #6 seed UVM

BC is 4 wins and 8 losses
BC has not played in a Hockey East championship game

@TonyTheTiger20 just wondering. Is that good ? Or are we still rebuilding ?

Women's Hoops is a national embarrassment and the worst P4 team in the country.
Women's Hockey has dipped significantly from its peak and struggled in the tournament but is still a top-three program in the conference.
Hoops equivalent in hockey is probably Merrimack if they were also consistently loosing to middling NEWHA teams in non-con.

I guarantee you any women's hoops fans would kill to trade places and be an upper-middle of the pack ACC team that struggles to get over the hump.

For the fired/renewed part in WBB...it is a big difference. The athletic department waited out her contract when she probably should've been canned last season. Basically James chose to take no action in regards to that program.
I don't think James makes a change unless the bottom really falls out on the hockey program...and finishing top-four every year is not what he considers "the bottom falling out to be."
It would have to look something like multiple bottom half finishes in the conference or a season in the absolute cellar.
Maybe there's a change when her contract expires (no idea when that is/BC being private doesn't help) but that's probably the earliest.

Just to be clear I don't know who you are. But I know who pucko is. I think I made that pretty clear in my post. She is in fact an immediate relative of a former D-1 head coach. I'm sure pucko will back me up; I said enough to make myself clear.

Not gonna dox her though. The projection is just a bit ironic, wouldn't you say?

I agree with all this.

I just really want Reggie to tell us what makes BCWIH worse than BCWBB lol... I really really really hope he will enlighten us. Otherwise it's just ragebait and not worth engaging with.

Ragebait ? Really Tony ? Am I another angry parent ? No one else should be unhappy with BCWIH ?

You want some more statistics that demonstrate just how bad BCWIH has become ? Is your buddy Kinger still in a rebuild and needs a little more time ?

Yes I truly believe Hockey is worse in Hockey East that WBB is in the ACC. I really do. I haven't even started my research yet into the long list of elite hockey players that have left the BCWIH program for primarily 1 reason. They didn't like the coach.

If you take out this year because James screwed up bringing her back, we have been a fairly competitive lower middle of the pack team that was playing most teams pretty tough. about what most people would expect for BC in the ACC. Sorry thats reality in a basketball conference

However, BCWIH performance in the weakest conference in the country year after year is worse. IMO. Look at the numbers !

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
I agree with all this.

"If you take out the fact that this year they were the worst P4 team in the country, they were actually only regular-bad." Great analysis!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lmao

Not to mention, for a guy who likes to obsess over transfers, like 20% of that team has transferred out each year lol

Yessir. 'Tis but ragebait.

As I continue to dive deeper into the numbers as we have watched the total collapse of the BCWIH program over the last 7 seasons I decided to take a look at the long list of players that decided to leave BC and go play elsewhere. In many of these cases, the players that left the program were some of the best female hockey players in the world. Unlike Tony who thinks this is normal and happens all the time in D1 programs, I think this has been a huge problem within the program for years. The following list is a list that I have assembled doing my own research so it is possible that I have missed a few names. lets take a look.

1. Daryl Watts. Patty Kazmaier winner at BC. Canadian Olympic team. Went to Wisconsin and was All American/WCHA POY.
2. Caitrin Lonergan. All American/Kazmaier finalist at BC. left BC and became All American ECAC POY at Clarkson.
3. Savanah Norcross. Left BC after 2 seasons to play at Minnesota. Mass kid whose father played Football at BC. now in PWHL
4. Hadley Hartmetz. Left BC after 2 seasons. Went to Ohio State where she was a key player for 2 National Championships. Now in PWHL
5. Cayla Barnes, 3 Time USA Olympian. Left BC after 4 SEASONS to go to Ohio State and win an NCAA title
6. Hannah Bilka. USA Olympian left BC after 4 SEASONS to go to Ohio State and win an NCAA title
7. Alexis Guay. Left BC after 4 years where she was HE all rookie player to attend Clarkson. Now in PWHL
7. Julia Pellerin. Left BC after 2 seasons where she led HE in scoring and was a first team all HE player. Left to attend UConn. This is not a typo. She left BC for UConn
8. Molly Jordan. Left BC after 2 seasons where she was an 2nd team All Hockey East player to attend Minnesota. The Jordan family is from Connecticut
9. Caroline Goffredo. Left BC after 4 season to play at Clarkson
10. Natalie Tulchinsky. Left BC after 2 seasons to attend both RPI and St Anselm's where she was named NEWHA conference player of the year.
11. Skylar Sharfman. left BC last year after 1 season (she actually never played a game) to attend Holy Cross where she led the team in +/-. This is not a typo

I'm sure that I am missing some other players that decided to leave BC but am I the only person on here that thinks that this is unacceptable ? Do you think Blake James even knows these facts ? I'm sorry but this has been going on for too long and it needs to STOP. We are talking about Boston College here.

I hate to even ask this but is anyone else worried that the talented BC freshman on the roster are also going to leave ? I know I am

@TonyTheTiger20 just wondering. Is that good ? Or are we still rebuilding ?
