Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

I was pretty ****ed they didnt end up getting Kerfoot. Then I decided to look again at the 2013 recruiting class. 9 players, and 6 forwards all of whom look to be really impactful players and just by a quick count should have 6 NHL draft picks in it if not more with a couple 2nd year eligible guys in there like Cangelosi, Richardson and Piazza. Could potentially be the best all around class York, Cav, Brown and crew ever brings in.

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Getting Kerfoot would have been nice, but the upcoming classes say BC will be fine without him. I agree with what J.D. posted earlier, it's really more of a win for Harvard than a loss for BC.

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Being reported by BChockeyblog on twitter, 96' goalie Chris Birdsall has committed to BC, I'm thinking in the 2014 class. He will be playing for Cedar Rapids of the USHL next year. From the reports I've read he looks to be in the top 3 goalies of the 96 birth year and could have possibly been offered a position at the NTDP but declined. Not sure about that just gatherings from the article below. Played for the US U17 team in the Five nations tournament, and in 3 games played he allowed only 4 goals with a shutout against Switzerland.

Also here's USHR's analysis of his play at nationals and where he stacked up against all the players there, only one other goalie was mentioned being Blake Weyrick...
19. Chris Birdsall, G, ’96 (NJ Avalanche) -- A competitive goalie who gets the most out of what he has to work with. Is probably about 5’10”, but he positions himself well in the net and makes himself look bigger than he is. Is aggressive and challenges shooters on a regular basis. Was at the NTDP tryout camp and is being considered for the final goalie position.

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

2 more names to keep an eye on as possible 2014/2015 recruits...
J.J. Piccinich from the New Jersey Avalanche (Birdsall's teammate) via Parasmus and will play next year for the Youngstown Phantoms. Had a very strong showing at Nationals and was one of the final 40 players at the NTDP camp. Reported interest from Harvard, Yale, Brown, Princeton, Boston College and Providence.
From Jason Koehler director of Youngstown Player Personnel,
“J.J. Piccinich is one of the United States’ elite level power forwards and goal scorers in the 1996 birth class. J.J. had some tough choices to make for where he would play next season and continue his development and we are excited he chose to join our program and family next season. He’s going to be a great addition to the team and bring a tough two-way power forward with strong goal-scoring ability that also finishes all of his checks. Our fans will enjoy watching him as we see him as someone that will be a comparable player to our leading goal scorer this year — JT Stenglein.”

Another name to keep an eye on is Joe Wegwerth from the Brewster Bulldogs and will play next year with the U17 USNTDP, with BC commit Alex Tuch. This area of new york has been a big recruiting area with York and co. Also Wegwerth trains daily in the offseason every day with Steve Santini, a 2013 dmen recruit from the U18 NTDP. Wants to play college hockey, has stated it numerous times and supposedly everyone is trying to get him. Already a 6'2" 200 lb forward with a pro style of play.

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Sam Piazza has been traded to the Chicago Steel in the USHL. So that eases the D ranks for 2012-13. Still 15 forwards on the roster with two players that have and may continue to see limited play. I expect Vantrano to get good ice. McMullen? Silk?

2013-14 Recruits - have any players moved to new teams? I only know of a few changes.

Calnan, Chris RW 6-2 188 5/5/94 Boston, Mass. Noble & Greenough - staying ????
Cangelosi, Austin C 5-8 165 8/27/94 Estero, Fla. Youngstown - staying
Fitzgerald, Ryan F 6-2 176 10/19/94 North Reading, Mass. Malden Catholic - EJHL ????
Gaudreau, Matt C 5-7 130 12/5/94 Carneys Point, N.J. Omaha - staying
Gilmour, Adam RW 6-2 193 1/29/94 Kelowna, B.C. Noble & Greenough - ????
McGlynn, Conor LW 6-2 195 6/19/95 Oakville, Ont. Oakville OJHL - USHL Sioux City Musketeers
Richardson, Evan C 5-8 170 5/30/94 Nanaimo, B.C. Powell River - ????
Santini, Steve D 6-2 205 3/7/95 Mahopac, N.Y. U.S. NTDP - staying
Savage, Scott D 6-0 160 4/11/95 San Clemente, Calif. U.S. NTDP - staying

This class will bring the total forwards up to 19. Defense should be 8. This wild card is if Arnold, Hayes and Gaudreau go pro and others who are not getting ice choose to forgo their senior year on the team. Going to be interesting to see how York and Co. manage this class. So much talent. Would be a shame to see any of them walk if deferred or if projected scolly money does not free up. Anyone have updates on recruit movement or possible moves to 2014-15?

A good problem to have? The next three years at BC project to be strong contenders as National Championship teams.:)

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Numbers at forward are pretty high for a York type team but these things will always work themselves out. Realistically, there are just some guys that will probably never see the ice, especially early on in their careers when these numbers are going to be so high.

The more interesting question to me is who sits on defense when they have 8 starting in 2013 if Matheson stays. All seem to be good or very good. Might need to rotate guys into the lineup to keep everyone happy (about 192 man-games, 8 guys... 24 games a piece in the RS) and then go with the best 6 in the playoffs. It will certainly help absorb an injury or two.

MacLeod
Doherty
Matheson
Jeke
Sullivan
Sam Piazza
Steve Santini
Scott Savage

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Having to many is one thing. Not having enough money to pass around is another. It may simply come down to who is slated for a full ride vs. 2/4 or other deal. Based on the current roster aand more importantly the 2013 class rides may be the deciding factor.

When you look at the 2013 recruits there really isn't one weak link. A great combination of size and skill all the way through to fully compliment the current roster. Wow.

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

Joe Dudek, son of famous Plymouth state quarterback, from Kimball Union just committed via BChockeyblog and Judd Brackett. Looks to be 2014 incoming. Will try to follow up with more info on him in a bit

Joey Dudek actually goes by JD sometimes, so after finding that I was able to find a lot more information about him. Was between BC, UNH, Maine, and Brown before committing to BC. Played Pinkerton Academy last year and will transfer to Kimball Union for next year. 21g 34a 55pts as a freshman in 24 games and lead his team to 22 wins and a state title. Played with the U17 team at the 5 nations tournament with BC's other new recruit Chris Birdsall. From what I could tell, he had 3 goals in 4 games in the tournament. Got most of this stuff from a couple blogs and articles.

Anyways...
Here's a video of a bit of an interview and him practicing.

That 2013 class isn't even fair.

Joe Dudek was a running back for Plymouth State and a finalist for the Heisman with Bo Jackson of Auburn and Chuck Long of Iowa in 1985.

Re: Boston College Recruiting - 2012 and 2013

What level of football was Plymouth State back then? Didn't realize he'd even be eligible for the Heisman.
