Boston College Hockey 2026 - 2027

Another wild one vs NU. Lawton Zacher just haunts BC.

How ridiculous is it that this OT home win counts as .48 of a win? Absolutely absurd.

-Cloutier .888 save percentage tonight. At one point it was .714 when NU scored their second goal on 7 shots. State media says he's great!
-Faceoffs 49% is actually pretty awesome for this team and keyed possession for almost the entirety of OT.
-Liked Conmy tonight (another PPG) especially drawing that 3rd period penalty which was 5x5. PP kind of failed BC there in the third. Just 1 of 6 on the night, 0-2 in the 3rd period.
-I don't know how the linesmen can positively say BC was offside on the 3rd goal that was called back. They probably were but I never saw anything conclusively.
-Terrible penalty by Dean and it cost them a regulation win in all likelihood (.32 extra anyway). He got benched for the remainder of the 2nd I think. With Cam Neely in the house. Seems like every night someone takes a turn with the crazy dumb penalty. It's been a staple the past few years. It's just not acceptable and makes it so much harder to get the win.
-Fantastic pass from Radovojevic to Dean in OT.
-Stiga had a nice game as well.
-Vote is just super underappreciated.
-45th in the NPI! right now. WOW!

Did you see the 2 goals against? A deflection and a no chance smash in

Down to 50th because St. Cloud lost to Arizona State at home. BC almost lost this game late in regulation when the puck bounced on the top of the net. Despite actually looking good most of the game BC went nearly 60 minutes without scoring a goal with over 40 shots on goal in that time period. They may need a second semester goaltender pick up if things don't improve in net. That no goal call took a long time indicating it was not clearly one to be overturned. Also is Murnieks injured? If not, he would have been the only healthy scratch as Delay was the extra forward. I thought Murnieks looked good when he played before.

yes, i think the injury list is Joyce, Moore, Beauchesne, Murnieks.

other thoughts about the game... really more than anything i was just annoyed when announcers just called out "Mutryn" without the first names. i know for some brothers it's obvious which is which based on context- e.g. if you heard "Hagens scores" you could pretty safely assume which one- but if you hear "Mutryn is driving the net" or "Mutryn is pissing someone off" that could be either Casey or Teddy! heck, it could even be Scott!

happy halloween, lawton zacher is the trick. lets see if BC can pull out the treat

You can't score from the penalty box, NU was baiting BC all night, you can't miss Deano when he is on the ice, every game will be like that. Really stupid penalty, good for Brownie to sit him down for a few shifts. NU can't keep up with BC, the only way to win is Zacher to be stellar, which he was and get BC's best players to watch the game from the penalty box. Stiga was very good tonight, he loves to wheel around in open ice. On the first NU goal he was off balance and while he was fighting to recover the puck went in off a skate, he watched it trickle by. Agreed on the overturned goal, if it has to be conclusive why did it take 5 minutes for the review?

Trick or treat.

The beatings will continue until Greg Brown is fired.

- Cloutier (.833 save % tonight) actually played well. He was locked in early and kept BC in the game in the first period. It was a third shot that got past him on that last play in OT as he saved the initial shot and the initial rebound but another whack at it got through. I still want to see other goaltenders. 🤷‍♂️
- 2 stupid penalties, 2 PPGs against in the 2nd. It's a nightly thing.
- BC got more dominating on SOG in the 2nd and 3rd but after last night NU had a much better game tonight.
- Lawton Zacher owns this team.
- 2-4-1 after 7 games (5 at home), just 1 regulation win. It's bad. This season was over before it started. And yes it's still over.
- It's bad.
- Alaska lost 6-0 to Dartmouth tonight and still is searching for win #2.
- Pelletier 3 points. Very nice game. Nice to see Sondreal get on the board as well.
- Are the Mutryn brothers still on the team?
- 3rd period PP failed again tonight. Golden opportunity there with under 3 minutes left. PP was still 50% tonight. Timeliness does matter though. And that applies to a lot of things with this squad. Timely saves as well.
- A failed 3-on-1 in overtime led to the NU 2-on-1 gamewinner. It was not great execution there.
- 47% faceoffs. Lost a bunch of key ones late including the late PP and start of OT.
- It's bad.
- Greg Brown is in the bottom 10% of head coaches in D1 regardless of what his win % is and it may be bottom 5%.

More meaningful discussion: What do folks think of hockey analytics, and while it's flawed, how come BC loses so many games under Greg Brown in which they have lopsided advantages in expected goals? I want to hear what the braintrust of merrymen think who recite Greg Brown's win % :D

I'm a big fan of Kris Mayotte and he should be on the short list of Greg Brown replacements. And yes I'd absolutely kick the tires on Hakstol now that we know he's willing to come back to a D1 job not in Grand Forks. A good coach will have this program back in tiptop shape in a season. Speaking of Dartmouth, Reid Cashman also should be on any short list. Would Nate Leaman move over? He may be the first phone call.

And while we're at it, it's probably time to move on from BOB as well but getting GB out of my alma mater is a higher priority. Should have hired Chesney when we had the chance. Incompetence is the theme in this athletic department. It's all on Luke Murray right now to show something.

I am now in the camp questioning Greg Brown. Not for his coaching style but in his decision-making regarding goaltenders. How BC could not get another top-notch goaltender these last two seasons is beyond me. You cannot come out of a series at home outshooting your opponent 48-18 and 49-24 and come up with overtime splits. Henriquez must not be ready and Cloutier clearly is not the answer. Give Korec another try please. Last year he lost 2 games to Quinnipiac and Northeastern then Cloutier took over. Cloutier has now lost to Alaska, Denver and Northeastern which is probably worse. Quinnipiac was a far better team than BC last year and Alaska is bad. There was a point in the 3rd period tonight in which BC was outshooting NU 11-1. You guessed it the 1 was a goal. In total between the 3rd period and OT Northeastern had only 6 shots and 2 of them were goals. Save percentages for the goaltenders this weekend: BC .889 and.833 NU .938 and .939 A decent goaltender should be at least .910 and anything above .925 is great. Mercyhurst folded their team but had a very good goaltender which Niagara picked up. Gravel is .944 and one of the reasons Niagara has beaten Bowling Green twice, Union and Clarkson and sits right behind Denver in the NPI.

And you can blame the team defense giving up too much time & space on NUs PP goals. Two nights in a row that happens on the PP. Why does BC give up the perimeter ? Too much time and space, they just hunker around in front of the goalie. Brown is soft spoken and not assertive on the bench & the team plays like the personality behind the bench.

No discipline and no leaders on this team. Who can be the Tommy Cross type leader ? I would not be surprised if this team is below .500 this entire year. Playing to another night with the empty stands & unexciting hockey. SOG mean nothing if most of those shots are weak and harmless.

Just understand regarding GB if it comes to firing him, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. First, the performance will have to reach a level that BC is even willing to take that step in the first place. Second, nowadays with the transfer portal whenever any coach leaves, it's usually followed by many of his recruits hitting the door as well. Don't forget that realistically it took Jerry York four years to fix the mess he inherited at BC.

Hard to argue with any of the points made. Two really bad penalties cost them dearly. NU played better hockey last night, they are not as skilled as BC but they show more grit and toughness than BC and they have Zacher. With him they are in every game. 9 games this year and the last 9 games last year and they are 7-10 and 1. It doesn't get any easier, now not sure where the wins are going to come from. Right now they are just not good enough.
