Looks like while I was on a mini-vacation, the hockey program was again struck with a case of Brown Syndrome in losing on opening night at home to goddamn Alaska, who I might add went to Union and got hammered 7-1 the very next night. Last season was essentially done by Halloween, this season could be earlier than that with four more NC games in a row and the two at Denver looming. I would caution folks on any possible success against St. Cloud this weekend, which quite frankly is mandatory if BC wants to even entertain the idea of losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament (it's still not going to happen).
The defense is thin with the loss of Minnetian and Fortescue; that was expected but I don't know about the roster decisions to fill in the D. We'll see. They better get a lot better, it's not a good looking unit on paper and doesn't look great on the ice either. Offensively, they've played 6 periods against D1 competition and still haven't scored a 5x5 goal yet. That was a problem last year. I'm not even worried about faceoffs (which has been a 2+ season issue) if this continues. I did watch large portions on my phone and thought Cloutier actually played well so I'm not going to go there but I still have concerns for goaltending too. So it is basically a team with subpar offense, subpar defense and subpar goaltending (still holding out hope for Henriquez). The line combinations continue to be hilariously bad (Conmy on the top line, come on, we dealt with this same stupidity last year). And the penalties!!!!
Who turned that puck over on the 3rd Alaska goal?
The beatings will continue until the head coach is improved.
