Boston College Hockey 2026 - 2027

Disappointing ending but a nice start, bad turnover at the blue line led to a 2 on 0 breakaway which sealed the game. The offense has a ways to go, not enough clean entry rushes, they need to get better at 5 on 5 hockey. Lots of things to work on but they have a lot of skill upfront. The first 10 minutes they were flying and then not so much. Rink looks great, new ice plant, new boards and glass. Looking forward to next week.

Looks like while I was on a mini-vacation, the hockey program was again struck with a case of Brown Syndrome in losing on opening night at home to goddamn Alaska, who I might add went to Union and got hammered 7-1 the very next night. Last season was essentially done by Halloween, this season could be earlier than that with four more NC games in a row and the two at Denver looming. I would caution folks on any possible success against St. Cloud this weekend, which quite frankly is mandatory if BC wants to even entertain the idea of losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament (it's still not going to happen).

The defense is thin with the loss of Minnetian and Fortescue; that was expected but I don't know about the roster decisions to fill in the D. We'll see. They better get a lot better, it's not a good looking unit on paper and doesn't look great on the ice either. Offensively, they've played 6 periods against D1 competition and still haven't scored a 5x5 goal yet. That was a problem last year. I'm not even worried about faceoffs (which has been a 2+ season issue) if this continues. I did watch large portions on my phone and thought Cloutier actually played well so I'm not going to go there but I still have concerns for goaltending too. So it is basically a team with subpar offense, subpar defense and subpar goaltending (still holding out hope for Henriquez). The line combinations continue to be hilariously bad (Conmy on the top line, come on, we dealt with this same stupidity last year). And the penalties!!!!

Who turned that puck over on the 3rd Alaska goal?

The beatings will continue until the head coach is improved.

Resendes made an ill advised cross ice pass to Woodall who fumbled the puck and two seconds later it was in the net. I think Woodall got a little jumpy because he knew two guys were close to him but I think Resendes made a pass that was ill timed and too far across the ice. Conmy has a terrific shot but not much else, kind of a poor man's Oliver Whalstrom. Just before the Alaska goal Conmy got it behind Shea and it was briefly lying in the crease and defensemen swept it away. Lots to work on, need some wins this week end to feel better about themselves.

That was Beauchesne who made the risky/poor pass to Woodall that resulted in the breakaway goal.
Conmy missed the net on 3 of his 8 shots. He tries to unload bullets.
Hemming fired 4 shots, (one on a wide open net) and only one shot made it on goal. Two misses and a blocked shot.
Eagles missed the net on 17 of 45 shots.
I believe the offense will emerge over time, but the team needs some wins this month.

Wasn't it also Beauchesne that lost control of the puck late in the game near his own net then got called for a hold and followed it up for roughing when he knocked the Alaska player down. That resulted in being short two men in the last 5 minutes when they needed to get a tie. Seems to me he may need to be benched for a game and give Schairer a chance.

Yes it was Beauchesne who melted down at the end, it was a Freshman mistake and then he compounded it with a double minor. My bad on Resendes. you can see the sequence on You Tube.

Pretty interesting game tonight ... all in all a solid performance.

New lines were much better tonight. Vanhanen and Hemming were flying and feeding off each other and seemed to energize linemate Ryan Conmy, who had one of his best games as an Eagle. Resendes was great tonight. Cloutier was very good and earned that shutout IMO. The first period was very blah (two BC penalties didn't help) aside from a goal by Vanhanen being taken off the board after an offside review. Once Hemming broke the seal on the true first goal early in the 2nd period (great setup by Conmy), BC started playing downhill. The game almost hinged on a terribly unnecessary icing (not sure who it was) that got lines all mixed up on the Dzone faceoff and SCSU put BC on their heels for a good while. Crazy how one bad icing can almost turn a game. The 5x3 goal really helped settle things down and BC outshot SCSU 16-7 in the 2nd and mostly stayed out of the box and let SCSU take the penalties. Good plan. Early goal in the 3rd as well by Hemming put it away really.

The D was much more composed. Radovejic has improved already and was good last year, he's terrific and the leader of the D group. Breakouts were better after the 1st period (did the coaches actually make adjustments?!).

Stiga was flying around. One of the Mutryn's hit the post. There's room for good offensive output with the depth if they can all stay out of the box.

edit - Vanhanen almost pulled off a Mike Legg/Michigan behind the net about 90 seconds into the game but the puck rolled off his blade. I don't believe any BC player has ever pulled this off yet.

It was a good game, interesting that Moore was not dressed but Schaier was in there. Kosta and Rado played major minutes. St Cloud does not have a lot of skill upfront but they are tough and worked at slowing BC down, they had two posties. Each team had one called back due to off sides, both by a whisker. Two tripping penalties on the same play gave BC a five on three, never seen that before. Top six were very good. More of the same tomorrow.

Decent game but yea that could have gone south quickly. Credit to them for preventing SCSU turning the tides on that game especially after that icing. The two early calls were ticky tack as heck; the boarding was pretty egregious on the SCSU player but probably not enough for a 5. Brown decided not to challenge, and also to his credit, saved the challenge and used it to take away the SCSU goal in the third. Connelly didn't know the rules lol. Whoops.

BC seemingly attacked the wings a lot last night, not sure if SCSU is just slower on D or if BC is finding speed down the wings now. Someone blew a 3 on 1 and had the pass roll right off the stick. Story of my beer league life on the right wing.

Twitterverse has quotes from Brown after the game that Will Moore is out for an extended period of time. Terrible news for that kid, just can't catch a break. Not sure what the injury is. Vanhanen looks great as a freshman.

Have to win Saturday and maybe split the DU series to get back into decent shape going into conference play.

Murnieks replaced the injured Moore. He looked good out there showing hustle, skill and the ability to mix it up on loose pucks. He was also 2-0 on face-offs. Schairer replaced the injured Joyce logging 8 minutes and 2 shots on goal. A big shout out to Teddy Mallgrave as he was the only +3 on the team. SCSU did not forecheck as much or as well as Alaska did and that was a key to BC's defense not coughing it up. 25+ minutes for Radivojevic and 21+ for both Woodall and Kostadinski. Woodall is playing very steady.

They have to win the NC game Saturday (6:00 PM in case you didn't know) because they're not in Denver's class. Pios have their number year in and year out since way back when. Carle is way above Brown as a coach and has the hardware and in game coaching to prove it.

Administration is another issue. Why is Watson out after less than a year ??? All that goodwill and influence in the south for recruiting is gone IMO. His son has also decommitted. BC usually finds a way to **** things up. I question Obrien's hire now and BC has regressed even more on the gridiron.

I think it's time someone has a talk with Greg Clown and asks him to resign. This is embarrassing.

This season is effectively over with regard to any hope for an NCAA tournament bid and it's mid-freaking-October.

pretty surprised to see Michael Hagens playing for Vermont
Thought he was their best defenseman this weekend
why did he leave BC?

Don't really know but his sister is a Freshman on the women's team. This one is on the players, if you don't show up for the game until the middle of e second period you are going to lose. St Cloud was waiting two days for this and BC was still celebrating the football win.

Rough night, but I'd pump the brakes on "season over." BC outshot St. Cloud 46-25 Saturday, 41-13 over the last two periods, and Shostak made 43 saves. The problem was the start: down 2-0 after one and 4-1 by the middle of the second. Thursday was the opposite, with Cloutier's 28-save shutout and two from Hemming. Play the first period like the last two and that's a different result.

generally agree with eyak, with one caveat... definitely have some concerns on the injury bug, especially on defense. losing 1 defenseman per game is not a great trend, with Joyce, Beauchesne, and now Mallgrave leaving each respective game hurt. hopefully they aren't long term (and it doesn't keep happening, or else they might have to ask a forward to play defense).

in general though it's just a very young team getting used to the college game. not everyone can slide in as quickly as Vanhanen or Woodall. might be a tough watch for now but not worth writing off

not sure if anyone mentioned yet but the Moore injury is him aggravating the shoulder injury he dealt with over summer. speculation is season ending :/

Good point on the injuries. I hadn't put together that it's been a different defenseman each game, and that's tough on a blue line this young. Hope it's not the shoulder again for Moore.
