I can assure you "the kid" doesn't know
Yeah man what a loser! Only us cool kids know, but we can't say anything until afterwards, because, well, you know, reasons.

We should hang out because we're both so cool and are the only ones who know.

maine already did hammer bc once last year. hang a banner*

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

already did. stay tuned, not a big surprise

Millions of Americans were stunned when Truman defeated Dewey in 1948. Not Hokes. He knew Harry had it in the satchel, all along.

This young girl who's knocked everyone off their feet in the Little League World Series? Hokemeister was on to her years ago.

sad but true D 1 is not much different. only dufference is the arrogance that they portray and that it is the only way to go. feel it is best route for most byt not all. if the milanos and hanafin types are planning on one, maybe two years, is BC really any more than a junior program. not really.

i get the class portion but thats a joke as well for most in that catagory

The difference is that they'll be able to play twice as many games in two years in the CHL.

If if this trend continues, I wonder if some coaches will begin to favor going after 20/21 year olds who have exhausted their Junior eligibility?

games are the problem, not the solution. they take away from development. chl is about the money, kids are just a piece of meat.

the trend is college jockey. league at the gm and coach level will be over run by ex college guys very soon. trend is also there for college. USHL smoked the Q this year in the draft and is now regarded as a better leagie. even removing natl team they croaked the Q

Q is the past

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Hoky, what am I missing here? You say College is the trend and the Q is the past, but all I see is NE kids signing (and signing very early) with Q teams. Is the money in these deals that good, good enough to make the deal worth it even if the kid doesn't succeed in the Q?

Hoky can explain his position, but a few thoughts to back up his statement:
- US players have been going the MJ route for some time now, see Jeremy Roenick and Mike Modano. Milano is just the latest.
- I think Hoky may also be pointing out the fact that the Q itself (as opposed to the OHL or WHL) is not doing well. I couldn't help but notice how few Q guys went in the first round of the NHL draft.
- The fact that two of the top picks in next years draft (Eichel and Hanafin) are Americans who were heavily pursued by the Q and are going to college is a statement in itself.
- Is Hanafin the first Bobby Orr advised guy to stick with the college route? I heard someone says couple years ago that there was no way he would end up at BC with Orr advising him, since no Orr guys end up going the NCAA route. If Orr is changing, maybe the winds really are shifting.

Hokydad:

I think this article supports your argument that the college route, if a player sticks with it, can provide a better ecosystem and the time to develop into a professional, (adding 20 lbs of muscle mass, speed and explosiveness, skills). Your time is not totally consumed with travel and games. You only have to look at Union and what those 5 seniors looked like, and played like, as freshmen, to appreciate what that development can mean. None of them were draft picks. Strength training can go on right through the college hockey season.

"The schedule we played, the guys we practiced against every day while we were there, and the style we played - it was all very beneficial for me and my development." - Brian Boyle, Boston College/New York Rangers

"You can see the difference between the college and junior guys. The schedule in college allows you more time in the weight room, so the biggest thing that I notice is that they’re more well-rounded in the room during the workouts. They’re familiar with the technique and they also have a very good base." - Paul Goodman, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Chicago Blackhawks

I think guys should go whatever route they feel more comfortable with. If they're good enough they will make it, if they aren't they won't, simple as. I think development plays a lot smaller role than people realize.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Sorry for the self-promo but I thought people here would be interested in knowing that Monday night at 8 PM on the BC Interruption Radio Show, we are going to have Don Harkins, US Scouting Director for the Plymouth Whalers, on to discuss the Milano situation and NCAA vs. CHL generally. We'll be taking callers to discuss the issue too - it should be pretty interesting. The link to the stream will be up on the website.
